Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good.
A bettor at PointsBet Sportsbook fired an insane wager on Sunday Night Football last night. It was a $270,000 bet to win $100,000 on the Philadelphia Eagles first quarter moneyline against the Dallas Cowboys. No spread, just win the quarter.
Five minutes into the game, Greg Zuerlein made a 49-yard field goal to give Dallas a 3-0 lead. Philadelphia fumbled on the ensuing drive to give the Cowboys the ball at the Eagle 25. Then on 2nd goal from the 7, Dallas quarterback Ben DiNucci fumbled on a sack by Brandon Graham and Philadelphia recovered with 5:47 remaining in the first quarter.
Tick tick tick.
The Eagles quickly moved into Dallas territory and marched to the Cowboy 31 with 2:33 to go.
After Boston Scott lost four yards, Carson Wentz connected with Travis Fulgham for 32 yards down the left side and Philly had first and goal from the 3 with 1:09 left in the first. Beads of sweat were likely rolling down Bettor X's neck. The Eagles took a delay of game penalty to move the ball back to the 8. Wentz then completed a six-yard pass to Scott, but the clock was rolling. Odds were good that the Eagles were going to score but the bettor needed it now!
Tick tick tick.
Wentz took the snap, dropped back and fired a pass to rookie receiver Jalen Reagor with two seconds left on the clock. Touchdown. 7-3 Eagles. Philadelphia kicked the ball off for one final play and Dallas return man Tony Pollard ran it 20 yards before being tackled to end the first frame.
And just like that, a $270,000 loss turned into a $100,000 win.
"What a win for the client!" PointsBet communications director Patrick Eichner told NBC Sports. "It really came down to the wire for the bettor. Clearly it was a sweat, but that’s what makes it memorable and all the more rewarding."
