MLB picks and predictions for July 26

Pittsburgh Pirates vs St. Louis Cardinals

Forgive me for being a bit confused about the odds for this game. You have the Pittsburgh Pirates starting top prospect Mitch Keller, but he went 1-5 with a 7.13 ERA and a BAA of .348 in 11 starts last year, while the St. Louis Cardinals are starting Dakota Hudson who went 16-7 with a 3.35 ERA. And he was even better at home, going 9-2 with a 2.75 ERA and a BAA of .224.

While the Pirates have plenty of power at the plate, the Cardinals have the more well-rounded lineup, led by Paul Goldschmidt who is off to a sizzling start this year. The Cards have also won by multiple runs in nine of the last 10 games in the head-to-head. St Louis is an absolute bargain on the runline at plus money.

PREDICTION: Runline St Louis -1.5 (+110)

Minnesota Twins vs Chicago White Sox

The Chicago White Sox bats came alive yesterday in a 10-3 victory against the Minnesota Twins, bouncing back from a 10-5 loss on opening day. Chicago should be fun to watch this year, rolling out a loaded lineup featuring Yoan Moncada, Eloy Jimenez, Jose Abreu, Tim Anderson and Rookie of the Year favorite Luis Robert

Unfortunately for White Sox fans, Reynaldo Lopez, who went 10-15 with a 5.38 ERA last season, will be on the mound today. He was shredded by the Twins last year, getting roasted for 16 earned runs and five homers in 15 innings against Minnesota. With the Twins setting the MLB record for home runs in a season last year, we like the Over on Sunday.

PREDICTION: Over 10.5 (-105)

Arizona Diamondbacks vs San Diego Padres

San Diego Padres starter Garrett Richards clawed his way back from Tommy John surgery to appear in three games in 2019 but seemed a shell of his former self with an ERA of 8.31. While he is expected to throw without restrictions this year, there remain major questions about whether or not he can approach his previous level of play.

The Arizona Diamondbacks will counter with Zac Gallen, who impressed as a rookie in 2019. Although the 24-year-old went just 3-6 between the Miami Marlins and Arizona, he had a 2.89 ERA and 10.9 strikeouts per 9 innings.

In 2019, Arizona scored 5.11 runs per game on the road and has since added Starling Marte, while San Diego plated just 3.85 runs per game at Petco. Although the D-Backs struggled at the plate in the first two games of the year, we're banking on them returning to the mean and picking up their first win of the campaign.

PREDICTION: Arizona (-106)

Yesterday's MLB record: 2-1
