MLB picks for today
What? You need more? Well, for those who don’t know deGrom Day refers to betting the Under first five innings in Jacob deGrom starts. Now, admittedly this trend was far more profitable in 2018 when the Mets were a dumpster fire at the dish.
But luckily for us, the Mets have been about as un-clutch as you can get recently. They rank 27th in batting average with runners in scoring position resulting in 3.95 runs per game.
deGrom continues to do his thing with a 2.12 ERA and a 0.71 WHIP with 22 strikeouts in his first three starts. While Pablo Lopez got his 2020 campaign off to a good start, shutting out the Baltimore Orioles on two hits with seven Ks over five innings. He also one-hit the Mets over seven innings in his last start against them.
PREDICTION: Under 4.0 First 5 Innings (-108)
Gray has looked like one of baseball’s best pitchers. The right-hander is 3-0 with 0.96 ERA, a 0.70 WHIP, and 28 punchouts in 18 2-3 innings.
Meanwhile, Woodruff hasn’t been too shabby himself with his 2.08 ERA and a 0.92 WHIP with 21 punchouts. He also did his thing against the Reds allowing four runs on 14 hits with 18 Ks in 13 innings against them last year.
It’s not like the pitchers didn’t have the edge here, but the Reds and Brewers lineups will help them out anyway. The Reds are hitting .206 as a team, while the Brewers hit .216 and lead the league in strikeouts. Pitching will be front and center here as well.
PREDICTION: Under 4.5 First 5 Innings (-131)
After deGrom Day there was Bieber Fever, and now we have whenever Lance Lynn pitches for the Rangers, which we are dubbing, Lynnsanity!
Lynn has been terrific, and the Rangers suck at hitting. A perfect Under combination. Lynn has been dominant in 2020 after a solid first season in Texas. The right-hander has a 0.49 ERA and a 0.82 WHIP with 24 strikeouts over his first three starts this year.
As for the Rangers offense, they rank 27th in runs per game and batting average. Texas' bullpen is unreliable, but the Under first five innings is 3-0 this season in Lynn’s starts. Long live Lynnsanity!
PREDICTION: Under 4.5 First 5 Innings (-112)
The Rockies continue to be one of the best surprises of this bizzaro 2020 MLB season. While they continue to be good hitters, it’s the resurgence of the pitching staff that has led Colorado to an 11-3 record to lead the NL West. And one of those resurgent pitchers is German Marquez.
The right-hander has been fantastic so far this summer, pitching to a 1.89 ERA with a 0.89 WHIP with 23 strikeouts. Marquez faces a Mariners team that ranks 25th in strikeouts.
The M’s counter with Justus Sheffield, who has been roughed up for a 9.39 ERA and a 1.83 WHIP in his first two starts of 2020. Oh. And he’s a lefty. The Rockies crush lefties to the tune of a .275 batting average, and 6.95 runs per nine innings. Mix in a terrible M’s bullpen and the Rockies should cruise in this one.
PREDICTION: Rockies -1.5 (+103)
