Premier League Predictions for July 21-22
Watford vs Manchester City (Tuesday, 1 p.m. ET)
Man City are out of title contention, and thus might turn their sights to the Champions League as they visit Watford on Tuesday. With only two league games left on their 2019/20 schedule, they’ll surely be looking to get some tune-ups in prior to their Aug. 7 tilt with Spanish League champion Real Madrid.
That Man City have a certain level of motivation heading into this one is bad news for Watford – and it gets worse, with the visitors keen to bounce back from a 2-0 defeat to Arsenal in FA Cup action over the weekend. Manchester City have been positively dominant in their recent head-to-head history with Watford, winning 12 consecutive matches while outscoring them 14-0 in their past two. We like the visitors to hang another big number this time around.
PREDICTION: Manchester City Over 3.5 goals (+275)
Manchester United vs West Ham (Wednesday, 1 p.m. ET)
Man United might be the most dominant team in the Premier League at the moment. They put their 12-match unbeaten streak in league play on the line Wednesday against visiting West Ham. United are in great position to shake off that subpar performance vs. Chelsea on Sunday. They have just two defeats at Old Trafford in Premier League play this season and have scored 10 goals in three home games since returning from the COVID-19 break.
But this might not be a gimme for the hosts even with their recent red-hot play. West Ham have won back-to-back league matches in convincing fashion, outscoring the opposition by a 7-1 margin. They also have the recent edge in the head-to-head series with victories in two of the previous three meetings. We still expect Man United to prevail here, but West Ham should do enough on offense to push the game total past 3.5.
PREDICTION: Manchester United and Over 3.5 goals (+137)
Liverpool vs Chelsea (Wednesday, 3:15 p.m. ET)
With the Premier League points record officially out of reach, there’s little left for Liverpool to play for as they host Chelsea on Wednesday in their second-last game of the season. With Liverpool having clinched the league championship weeks ago, the only thing remaining on their checklist was challenging Manchester City’s record point tally. But that quest officially came to an end with last week’s 2-1 setback at Arsenal.
Chelsea are on a high following their impressive FA Cup victory over Manchester United, and still have top-4 aspirations in the Premier League; they enter mid-week action third in the table, but just one point clear of both Leicester and Man United. Chelsea have dropped two straight at Anfield but had gone unbeaten in their previous four visits; we see this one as a tightly-fought affair that has a good chance of ending in a tie.
PREDICTION: Draw and Under 2.5 goals (+450)
