Another day, another new betting market.
PointsBet Sportsbook was the first shop to post Most Valuable Player odds for the 2021 Major League Baseball season. Angels outfielder Mike Trout (+175) and Dodgers outfielder Mookie Betts (+500) are the odds-on favorites in the American League and National League respectively.
Trout already has three AL MVPs in his trophy room (2014, 2016, 2019) and four second-place finishes since breaking into the Majors ten seasons ago. Bookmakers slot Trout on the top line every single offseason because of his track record and the inevitable liability that would follow if he didn't have extremely low odds.
Betts won the AL MVP in 2018 with the Red Sox and now he's favored to do it the Senior Circuit. He finished second this past season behind Braves slugger Freddie Freeman, but had the last laugh when Los Angeles hoisted the World Series trophy. It was Betts' second championship in three seasons. Now he'll aim to be just the second player (Frank Robinson) to win the MVP in both leagues.
Here are the top ten contenders in each league:
American League MVP odds:
Mike Trout +175
Alex Bregman +1000
Jose Abreu +1000
Aaron Judge +1100
Shohei Ohtani +2000
Francisco Lindor +2000
Anthony Rendon +2000
Matt Chapman +2300
Gleyber Torres +2500
DJ LeMahieu +2500
National League MVP odds:
Mookie Betts +500
Christian Yelich +700
Ronald Acuna Jr. +750
Cody Bellinger +800
Freddie Freeman +800
Fernando Tatis Jr. +1000
Juan Soto +1000
