Avs power play flying high

The first week of the NHL schedule always skews stats, especially during the power play as the usual first units could have just been on the ice and the second unit scores, or someone who usually plays with the man-advantage is in the penalty box.

Hampus Lindholm: Zero points in 1:10 minutes of power play time.

Corey Perry:  Zero points in 1:03.

Ryan Getzlaf: 2 points in 1:03.

Cam Fowler: Zero points in 1:03.

Patrick Maroon: Zero points in 0:57.

Kevin Bieksa: Zero points in 0:57.


The Ducks were 0-1 this week as they only played one game. Ryan Kesler, Jakob Silfverberg and Sami Vatanen also saw power play time. The Ducks only had one power play chance so expect things to change a lot this week as they have four games.



Oliver Ekman-Larsson: Zero points in 12.58 minutes of power play time.

Mikkel Boedker: Zero points in 10:05.

Tobias Rieder: Zero points in 7:09.

Antoine Vermette: Zero points in 7:04.

Martin Hanzal: Zero points in 7:02.

Shane Doan: Zero points in 6:47.


The Coyotes were 0-3 this week. Max Domi, Anthony Duclair, Michael Stone and Connor Murphy rounded out the top ten in power play time on ice.



David Krejci: Zero points in 7:17 minutes of power play time.

Torey Krug: 1 point in 6:30.

Loui Eriksson: Zero points in 5:47.

Ryan Spooner: Zero points in 5:09.

Brett Connolly: Zero points in 4:47.

Patrice Bergeron: 1 point in 3:47.


The Bruins were 1-6 this week.  Patrice Bergeron scored with Krug and David Pastrnak setting him up. Brad Marchand (who is out indefinitely with a concussion), Matt Irwin (who was placed on waivers) Jimmy Hayes and Matt Beleskey saw pp time.



Marcus Foligno: 1 point in 5:42 minutes of power play time.

Evander Kane: 1 point in 5:41.

Rasmus Ristolainen: Zero points in 5:32.

Jack Eichel: 1 point in 5:02.

Tyler Ennis: Zero points in 4:05.

Matt Moulson: Zero points in 3:57.


The Sabres were 1-5 in the opening week of the season. Rookie Jack Eichel scored with Foligno and Kane drawing the assists. Jamie McGinn, Ryan O'Reilly, Cody Franson and Sam Reinhart saw second unit time.



Johnny Gaudreau: 1 point in 5:01 minutes of power play time.

Sean Monahan: Zero points in 5:01.

Jiri Hudler: 1 point in 4:31.

Dennis Wideman: 2 points in 3:58.

Mark Giordano: Zero points in 2:57.

Dougie Hamilton: 1 point in 2:35.



The Flames were 1-4 this week. Hamilton scored with Hudler and Gaudreau picking up the assists. Micheal Ferland, Kris Russell, Sam Bennett and Michael Frolik rounded out the top ten in ice time.



Justin Faulk: 1 point in 9:31 minutes of power play time.

Eric Staal: Zero points in 9:28.

Victor Rask: Zero points in 8:24.

Kris Versteeg: 1 point in 8:13.

Elias Lindholm: Zero points in 7:50.

Jeff Skinner: Zero points in 5:43.


The Hurricanes were 1-9.  Faulk scored and was set up by Versteeg and John-Michael Liles. Liles, Ryan Murphy, Nathan Gerbe and Jordan Staal also played on the second unit. Chris Terry also saw time on the pp.



Duncan Keith: 1 point in 9:37 minutes of power play time.

Patrick Kane: 1 point in 9:10.

Jonathan Toews: Zero points in 8:30.

Artemi Panarin: Zero points in 8:11.

Marian Hossa: 1 point in 7:58.

Andrew Shaw: 1 point in 7:05.


Chicago was 2-9 this week. Kane and Brent Seabrook scored with Keith, Hossa, Shaw and Teuvo Teravainen picking up assists. The second unit had Teravainen, Seabrook, Trevor Daley and Artem Anisimov saw significant time on the second power play.



Gabriel Landeskog: 1 point in 4:03 minutes of power play time.

Nathan MacKinnon: 2 points in 4:03.

Alex Tanguay: Zero points in 4:03.

Tyson Barrie: 1 point in 4:00.

Jarome Iginla: 2 points in 4:00.

Francois Beauchemin: 2 points in 3:17.


The Avs were an amazing 4-6 this week. Iginla and Erik Johnson each scored twice with MacKinnon, Beauchemin and Carl Soderberg each getting two helpers. Landeskog and Barrie each chipped in with one assist. The second unit consisted of Beauchemin, Johnson, Soderberg, John Mitchell and Matt Duchene.



Brandon Saad: 1 point in 10:10 minutes of power play time.

Ryan Johansen: 1 point in 10:09.

Nick Foligno: Zero points in 9:37.

Ryan Murray: 1 point in 8:48.

Jack Johnson: Zero points in 8:26.

Scott Hartnell: Zero points in 8:15.


The Blue Jackets were 2-10 during the opening week. Saad and Boone Jenner were the goal scorers with Johansen, Murray and David Savard drawing the assists. The second unit was made up of Hartnell, Cam Atkinson, Brandon Dubinsky, Savard and Rene Bourque.



Patrick Sharp: Zero points in 8:18 minutes of power play time.

Jason Spezza: 1 point in 8:15.

Tyler Seguin: Zero points in 8:10.

John Klingberg: 1 point in 7:57.

Jamie Benn: 1 point in 6:37.

Cody Eakin: 1 point in 5:55.


The Stars were 3-9 this week. Ales Hemsky had a goal and an assist while Benn and Eakin also found the back of the net. Spezza, Klingberg, Alex Goligoski and Jason Demers had one assist apiece. Ales Hemsky, Eakin. Goligoski, Valeri Nichushkin and Demers made up the second power play.



Brad Richards: Zero points in 3:15 minutes of power play time.

Gustav Nyquist: Zero points in 3:10.

Riley Sheahan: Zero points in 3:10.

Tomas Tatar: Zero points in 3:10.

Mike Green: Zero points in 3:04.

Niklas Kronwall: Zero points in 2:53.


Detroit was 1-5 this week. Justin Abdelkader scored and Johan Franzen and Henrik Zetterberg picked up the assists. Abdelkader, Zetterberg, Jakub Kindl and Dylan Larkin rounded out the top 10 players in power play time.



Taylor Hall: Zero points in 7:49 minutes of power play time.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins: 1 point in 7:49.

Benoit Pouliot: Zero points in 7:49.

Justin Schultz: Zero points in 7:41.

Connor McDavid: Zero point in 7:08.

Anton Lander: Zero points in 5:58.


The Oilers were 1-8 this week. Nugent-Hopkins scored the only goal and he did it without registering a shot on goal as Kevin Shattenkirk for the Blues banked it in off his teammate Alexander Steen. Nail Yakupov, Teddy Purcell, Lauri Korpikoski and Andrej Sekera rounded out the top ten in ice time.



Jaromir Jagr: Zero points in 3:46 minutes of power play time.

Reilly Smith: 2 points in 3:34.

Vincent Trocheck: 2 points in 3:34.

Jonathan Huberdeau: 1 point in 3:27.

Brian Campbell: Zero points in 3:21.

Jussi Jokinen: Zero points in 3:12.


The Panthers were 3-7 in their only game of the first week. Reilly Smith scored twice while Nick Bjugstad scored the other. Trocheck and Brandon Pirri each had a couple of assists while Huberdeau and Aaron Ekblad each had one assist. Dmitry Kulikov, Alex Petrovic, Pirri and Aleksander Barkov were on the second unit. Aaron Ekblad will see plenty of power play time as well.



Drew Doughty: Zero points in 5:16 minutes of power play time.

Marian Gaborik: Zero points in 5:00.

Anze Kopitar: Zero points in 5:00.

Jeff Carter: Zero points in 4:59.

Christian Ehrhoff: Zero points in 4:44.

Alec Martinez: Zero points in 3:50.


The Kings were 0-10 this week. Dustin Brown, Milan Lucic, Tyler Toffoli and Jake Muzzin made up the second unit with Martinez.



Ryan Suter: 2 points in 4:31 minutes of power play time.

Mikael Granlund: 1 point in 4:17.

Zach Parise: 2 points in 4:17.

Jason Pominville: Zero points in 4:17.

Mikko Koivu: 1 point in 4:05.

Matt Dumba: Zero points in 2:53.


The Wild were 2-5 this week. Parise scored twice while Suter assisted on both. Koivu and Granlund also drew assists.  



P.K. Subban: Zero points in 17:04 minutes of power play time.

Andrei Markov: 1 point in 13:53.

Alexander Semin: Zero points in 13:05.

Max Pacioretty:Zero points in 12:55.

Alex Galchenyuk: 1 point in 12:21.

Tomas Plekanec: Zero points in 10:45.


The Canadiens were 1-14 this week. David Desharnais scored with Markov and Galchenyuk assisting. Brendan Gallagher, Jeff Petry, Nathan Beaulieu and Lars Eller joined Plekanec on the second power play.



Roman Josi: Zero points in 4:57 minutes of power play time.

Shea Weber: Zero points in 4:46.

Filip Forsberg: Zero points in 4:42.

James Neal: Zero points in 4:42.

Ryan Ellis: 1 point in 4:39.

Mike Fisher: Zero points in 4:35.



The Predators were 1-5 this week. Craig Smith scored with Ellis and Seth Jones picking up the assists. Mike Ribeiro, Jones, Smith and Colin Wilson rounded out the top-ten in power play ice time.



Kyle Palmieri: Zero points in 5:27 minutes of power play time.

Travis Zajac: Zero points in 4:43.

Adam Henrique: Zero points in 4:35.  

Michael Cammalleri: 2 points in 4:28.

Jiri Tlusty: 1 point in 4:22.

Jacob Josefson: Zero points in 4:20.


The Devils were 2-7 this week. Tlusty and Eric Gelinas found the back of the net for New Jersey while Cammalleri and Lee Stempniak set up both goals. Jordin Tootoo, Gelinas, David Schlemko and Stempniak saw second unit power play time as did Damon Severson who only played one of the two contests this week.  



Anders Lee: Zero points in 4:09 minutes of power play time.

John Tavares: Zero points in 4:09.

Ryan Strome: Zero points in 4:00.

Marek Zidlicky: Zero points in 3:55.

Kyle Okposo: Zero points in 3:37.

Frans Nielsen: Zero points in 2:47.


The Islanders were 0-4 this week. Nick Leddy, Josh Bailey, Brock Nelson and Johnny Boychuk saw second power play time as did Travis Hamonic.



Keith Yandle: 1 point in 8:20 minutes of power play time.

Derick Brassard: 1 point in 7:15.

Dan Boyle: 1 point in 6:49.

Rick Nash: Zero points in 5:28.

Mats Zuccarello: Zero points in 6:20.

Kevin Hayes: Zero points in 4:43.


The Rangers were 1-4 this week. Brassard potted the goal with Yandle and Boyle drawing the assists. Chris Kreider, Ryan McDonagh, Derek Stepan and J.T. Miller also saw power play time.



Erik Karlsson: 2 points in 13:57 minutes of power play time.

Kyle Turris: 2 points in 10:30.

Mark Stone: 1 point in 10:25.

Bobby Ryan: Zero points in 9:41.

Milan Michalek: 1 point in 8:27.

Mike Hoffman: Zero points in 6:09.


The Senators were 3-10 this week. Turris had a goal and an assist with Michalek and Alex Chiasson also tickling the twine. Karlsson had two assists while Stone, Mika Zibanejad and Patrick Wiercioch chipped in with one helper apiece. Zibanejad, Chiasson, Clarke MacArthur and Wiercioch were next in ice time.



Claude Giroux: 1 point in 5:46 minutes of power play time.

Mark Streit: 1 point in 5:42.

Michael Raffl: Zero points in 5:39.

Jakub Voracek: Zero points in 5:39.

Michael Del Zotto: Zero points in 5:06.

Wayne Simmonds: 1 point in 5:06.


The Flyers were 2-7 on the power play. Streit and Brayden Schenn scored with Giroux, Simmonds, Evgeny Medvedev and R.J. Umberger drawing assists. Sean Couturier, Medvedev, Brayden Schenn and Umberger were used on the power play.



Kris Letang: Zero points in 8:17 minutes of power play time.

Sidney Crosby: Zero points in 7:19.

Phil Kessel: Zero points in 6:37.

David Perron: Zero points in 6:31.

Evgeni Malkin: Zero points in 6:01.

Chris Kunitz: Zero points in 5:58.


The Penguins were 0-7 this week. Patric Hornqvist, Olli Maatta, Daniel Sprong and Sergei Plotnikov saw second line power play duty.



Alexander Steen: 1 point in 7:23 minutes of power play time.

Kevin Shattenkirk: 1 point in 6:58.

Vladimir Tarasenko: 1 point in 6:45.

Paul Stastny: Zero points in 6:41.

David Backes: Zero points in 6:27.

Jaden Schwartz: Zero points in 4:59.


The Blues were 1-6  this week. Tarasenko scored with Shattenkirk and Steen picking up the helpers.  Jori Lehtera, Alex Pietrangelo, Troy Brouwer and Colton Parayko filled out the first two units for the Blues.



Brent Burns: 1 point in 10:45 minutes of power play time.

Joe Pavelski: 1 point in 9:20.

Joe Thornton: Zero points in 9:34.

Patrick Marleau: 1 point in 11:26.

Logan Couture: Zero points in 11:40.

Matt Tennyson: Zero points in 9:46.


The Sharks were 2-9 this week as Pavelski and Tomas Hertl found the twine with Pavelski, Marleau, Tommy Wingels and Marc-Edouard Vlasic setting up the goals.  Vlasic, Joel Ward,  Hertl and  Wingels rounded out the top-10 Sharks in power play ice time. 



Nikita Kucherov: Zero points in 7:25 minutes of power play time.

Tyler Johnson: Zero points in 7:10.

Steven Stamkos: Zero points in 6:48.

Ondrej Palat: Zero points in 6:29.

Anton Stralman: Zero points in 6:13.

Victor Hedman: 1 point in 5:22.



The Lightning were 1-6 this week with Ryan Callahan scoring as he was set up by Hedman and Jonathan Drouin. Drouin, Alex Killorn, Valtteri Filppula and Callahan were seventh through 10th in ice time.



Nazem Kadri: 2 points in 7:57 minutes of power play time.

James van Riemsdyk: Zero points in 7:54.

Tyler Bozak: 3 points in 7:24.

Joffrey Lupul: 2 points in 6:39.

Morgan Rielly: 1 point 6:22.

Brad Boyes: 1 point in 6:15.


The Maple Leafs were 2-10 in the first week Peter Holland and van Riemsdyk were the goal scorers while Dion Phaneuf assisted on both. Kadri and P. A. Parenteau also had assists. Parenteau, Holland, Phaneuf and Mark Arcobello filled out the top-ten but expect to see Jake Gardiner getting plenty of action. 



Sven Baertschi: 1 point in 5:48 minutes of power play time.

Alex Burrows: Zero points in 5:48.

Bo Horvat: 1 point in 5:48.

Henrik Sedin: Zero points in 5:45.

Brandon Sutter: Zero points in 5:45.

Ben Hutton: 1 point in 5:27.


The Canucks were 1-7 the first week of the season. Horvat scored with Baertschi and Hutton assisting. Radim Vrbata, Daniel Sedin, Chris Tanev and Yannick Weber round out the top-ten this week with Alexander Edler also seeing lots of pp time. Look for the Sedins and Vrbata to be in the top-five shortly.



Alex Ovechkin: 1 point in 5:50 minutes of power play time.

Evgeny Kuznetsov: Zero points in 4:55.

John Carlson: 1 point in 4:52.

T.J. Oshie: Zero points in 4:45.

Justin Williams: 1 point in 4:17.

Marcus Johansson:1 point in 2:55.


The Capitals went 2-5 this week. Johansson and Matt Niskanen were the scorers with Nikanen coming with the net empty. Ovechkin, Carlson, Williams and Dmitry Orlov drew the assists. Andre Burakovsky, Jason Chimera, Niskanen, and Orlov also saw time on the second unit along with Kuznetsov. Nicklas Backstrom will regain his spot on the top unit once he returns to action.



Andrew Ladd: 1 point in 4:27 minutes of power play time.

Blake Wheeler: 1 point in 4:27.

Dustin Byfuglien: Zero points in 3:58.

Bryan Little: Zero points in 3:58.

Mathieu Perreault: 1 point in 3:31

Tyler Myers: Zero points in 1:40.



The Jets were 1-4 this week. Ladd scored with Perreault and Wheeler drawing the assists. Mark Scheifele, Nikolaj Ehlers, Nic Petan and Drew Stafford rounded out the top-ten in ice time. Toby Enstrom should also see his fair share of power play time.
