Leafs look good on the pp

The first week of the NHL schedule always skews stats, especially during the power play as the usual first units could have just been on the ice and the second unit scores, or someone who usually plays with the man-advantage is in the penalty box.

Sami Vatanen: 2 points in 9:17 minutes of power play time.

Corey Perry:  2 points in 8:09.

Patrick Maroon: Zero points in 7:54.

Ryan Getzlaf: 2 points in 7:34.

Ryan Kesler: 3 points in 7:09.

Emerson Etem: Zero points in 5:47.


The Ducks were 3-9 this week. Ryan Kesler was in all three goals with a goal and two assists while Perry had the other two goals. Getzlaf and Vatanen each had a pair of assists. Cam Fowler was thought to be the power play quarterback this season but thus far it’s been Vatanen. Hampus Lindholm, Fowler, Devante Smith-Pelly and Rickard Rakell played on the second unit with William Karlsson taking over from Rakell when he replaced him in the lineup.



Oliver Ekman-Larsson: 1 point in 9.43 minutes of power play time.

Keith Yandle: 2 points in 9:38.

Antoine Vermette: 2 points in 6:46.

Shane Doan: Zero points in 5:56

Mikkel Boedker: Zero points in 5:29.

Sam Gagner: Zero points in 3:30.


The Coyotes were 2-7 this week. Ekman-Larsson and Antoine Vermette were the goal scorers with Yandle assisting on two and Vermette also picking up an assist on OEL’s goal. Ekman-Larsson and Yandle will handle the majority of the point work all season on both units. Martin Hanzal and Martin Erat joined Gagner up front on the second unit with Michael Stone seeing some action on the point when Ekman-Larsson and Yandle needed a break.



Reilly Smith: 1 point in 11:34 minutes of power play time.

Torey Krug: Zero points in 10:35.

Dougie Hamilton: Zero points in 11:13.

Zdeno Chara: Zero points in 8:53.

Loui Eriksson: Zero points in 8:40.

Carl Soderberg: 1 point in 8:21.


The Bruins were 1-10 this week and missed center David Krejci who is out with an injury. Smith got the goal with Soderberg and Patrice Bergeron setting him up. Milan Lucic saw action on the second power play as did Ryan Spooner, Brad Marchand and Dennis Seidenberg.



Tyler Myers: Zero points in 6:14 minutes of power play time.

Drew Stafford: Zero points in 5:42.

Matt Moulson: Zero points in 5:42

Tyler Ennis: Zero points in 5:42.

Andre Benoit: Zero points in 4:34.

Rasmus Ristolainen: Zero points in 3:55.


The Sabres were 0-5 in the opening week of the season. They managed four shots on goal. Chris Stewart, Brian Gionta and Cody Hodgson played up front on the second unit.



Mark Giordano: 1 point in 11:35 minutes of power play time.

Kris Russell: Zero points in 10:00.

Sean Monahan: Zero points in 8:24.

Curtis Glencross: 2 points in 8:13.

Mason Raymond: Zero points in 7:45.

T.J. Brodie: 2 points in 6:23.


The Flames were 2-12. Glencross and Brodie each had a goal and an assist with Giordano and Mikael Backlund also drawing assists. Jiri Hudler missed one game with the flu. Johnny Gaudreau, Joe Colborne, Dennis Wideman and Mikael Backlund also saw power play time.



Eric Staal: 2 points in 8:01 minutes of power play time.

Jiri Tlusty: 3 points in 8:01.

Alexander Semin: 2 points in 7:40.

John-Michael Liles: 1 point in 7:32.

Andrej Sekera: 1 point in 5:54.

Elias Lindholm: 1 point in 5:48.


The Hurricanes were 4-9.  Tlusty led the way with two goals and an assist while Staal had one of each. Nathan Gerbe also scored with Semin picking up two helpers. Justin Faulk, Lindholm, Liles and Sekera also picked up assists. Gerbe and Victor Rask joined Lindholm on the second power play with Faulk, Ryan Murphy and Jay Harrison all seeing action on the point.



Patrick Kane: 2 points in 10:34 minutes of power play time.

Patrick Sharp: 2 points in 10:03.

Duncan Keith: 1 point in 10:04.

Jonathan Toews: 1 point in 10:03.

Andrew Shaw: Zero points in 9:30.

Brandon Saad: Zero points in 4:57.


Chicago was 2-9 this week. Sharp had both goals with Kane assisting on both. Keith and Toews also drew assists. Brad Richards, Brent Seabrook, Marian Hossa and Bryan Bickell saw significant time on the second power play, joining Saad.



Tyson Barrie: Zero points in 8:20 minutes of power play time.

Matt Duchene: Zero points in 8:18.

Jarome Iginla: Zero points in 6:55.

Daniel Briere: Zero points in 6:46.

Gabriel Landeskog: Zero points in 6:39.

Nathan MacKinnon: Zero points in 6:32.


The Avs were 0-7 this week. Not only did they not score with the man-advantage, they did not score at all in either game. Alex Tanguay, Ryan O'Reilly, Nick Holden and Erik Johnson saw action on the power play as the Avs split the forwards time on ice evenly with Barrie quarterbacking the power play at the expense of Johnson.



Tim Erixon: Zero points in 8:31 minutes of power play time.

Cam Atkinson: 1 point in 6:43.

James Wisniewski: 1 point in 8:17.

Alexander Wennberg: Zero points in 7:10.

Scott Hartnell: Zero points in 7:05.

Ryan Johansen: 1 point in 6:43.


The Blue Jackets were 1-8 during the opening week. Atkinson scored with Nick Foligno and Johansen drawing the assists. It’s hard to believe that Erixon leads the team in power play ice time, but he does. The forwards split time fairly evenly with Cam Atkinson and Artem Anisimov seeing the exact same amount of ice time as Johansen with David Savard and Jack Johnson on the second power play point. Look for Ryan Murray to see action on the blueline once he returns.



Tyler Seguin: Zero points in 8:18 minutes of power play time.

Jamie Benn: Zero points in 7:39.

Jason Spezza: 1 point in 7:39.

Ales Hemsky: 1 point in 7:00.

Trevor Daley: 1 point in 6:52.

Alex Goligoski: Zero points in 4:47.


The Stars were 1-7 this week. Trevor Daley has taken over the point duties and scored the lone goal for Dallas. Hemsky and Spezza set him up. Shawn Horcoff, Cody Eakin. Colton Sceviour and Jordie Benn saw action on the second unit. Valeri Nichushkin saw no power play time in the first two games.



Henrik Zetterberg: Zero points in 5:56 minutes of power play time.

Johan Franzen: 1 points in 5:52.

Gustav Nyquist: 1 point in 4:57.

Niklas Kronwall: Zero points in 4:55.

Dan DeKeyser: Zero points in 4:46.

Riley Sheehan: Zero points in 4:32.


Detroit was 1-6 this week. Nyquist scored with Franzen and Darren Helm setting him up. Sheehan, Tomas Jurco, Helm. Andrej Nestrasil and Tomas Tatar filled out the top ten in ice time.



Justin Schultz: 1 point in 5:24 minutes of power play time.

Jordan Eberle: Zero points in 5:03.

Taylor Hall: 1 point in 5:16.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins: 1 point in 5:03.

Brad Hunt: 1 point in 3:478.

David Perron: 2 points in 3:46.


The Oilers were a prolific 3-6 this week. Teddy Purcell had a goal and an assists with Hunt and Hall also finding the back of the net. Perron set up two goals while Schultz, Nugent-Hopkins and Yakupov each chipping in with one assist. Nail Yakupov, Purcell, rookie Leon Draisaitl and Benoit Pouliot completed the top ten Oilers in ice time.



Brian Campbell: 1 point in 12:51 minutes of power play time.

Dmitry Kulikov: Zero points in 11:15.

Jussi Jokinen: Zero points in 8:13.

Aleksander Barkov: Zero points in 8:01.

Jonathan Huberdeau: Zero points in 7:48.

Aaron Ekblad: Zero points in 7:13.


The Panthers were 1-10 in the first week of the season with only 10 shots on net. Rookie Derek MacKenzie found the back of the net with Scottie Upshall and Campbell drawing the assists. Nick Bjudstad, Upshall, MacKenzie, Dave Bolland, Brad Boyes, Erik Gudbranson and Tomas Fleishmann also saw power play time as the Panthers are looking to vastly improve from their 30th place performance of last season.



Drew Doughty: Zero points in 12:40 minutes of power play time.

Jeff Carter: Zero points in 11:16.

Marian Gaborik: Zero points in 10:33.

Anze Kopitar: Zero points in 10:33.

Mike Richards: Zero points in 8:51.

Alec Martinez: Zero points in 7:38.


The Kings were 0-11 this week. Dustin Brown, Slava Voynov. Justin Williams and Jarret Stoll completed the top-ten in ice time on the power play.



Ryan Suter: Zero points in 11:41 minutes of power play time.

Mikko Koivu: Zero point in 8:37.

Zach Parise: Zero points in 8:13.

Thomas Vanek: Zero points in 8:04.

Jason Pominville: Zero points in 7:30.

Jared Spurgeon: Zero points in 6:43.


The Wild were 0-8 this week. They managed to put 15 shots on goal with the man-advantage. Mathew Dumba. Mikael Granlund. Jonas Brodin and Nino Niederreiter saw second line action as did Charlie Coyle.



P.K. Subban: Zero points in 12:40 minutes of power play time.

Andrei Markov: Zero points in 12:16.

Max Pacioretty:Zero points in 8:21.

David Desharnais: Zero points in 8:25.

Brendan Gallagher: Zero points in 8:03.

Tomas Plekanec: Zero points in 5:25.


The Canadiens were 0-10 this week. They had 11 shots on goal during the man-advantage. Alex Galchenyuk, P.A. Parenteau, Tom Gilbert and Rene Bourque joined Plekanec on the second power play.



Roman Josi: Zero points in 7:12 minutes of power play time.

Shea Weber: Zero points in 7:07.

Mike Ribeiro: Zero points in 7:00.

Gabriel Bourque: Zero points in 6:46.

James Neal: Zero points in 6:46.

Craig Smith: 1 point in 5:09.


The Predators were 1-6 this week. Smith scored with Derek Roy and Filip Forsberg drawing assists as the second unit did the scoring. Seth Jones and Ryan Ellis played the point on the second unit.



Marek Zidlicky: 1 point in 8:00 minutes of power play time.

Ryane Clowe: Zero points in 6:28.  

Damon Severson: 1 point in 6:22.

Michael Cammalleri: 1 point in 6:20.

Jaromir Jagr: Zero points in 6:12.

Travis Zajac: Zero points in 5:27.


The Devils were 2-8 this week. Cammalleri and Martin Havlat scored with Zidlicky, Severson, Eric Gelinas and Patrik Elias drawing assists. Gelinas. Adam Henrique, Michael Ryder and Jonathan Merrill were next on the list to join Zajac on the power play as Elias and Havlat saw limited duty.  



Kyle Okposo: 2 points in 7:52 minutes of power play time.

Johnny Boychuk: 4 points in 7:19.

John Tavares: 3 points in 7:15.

Brock Nelson: 3 points in 6:30.

Frans Nielsen: Zero points  in 6:12.

Josh Bailey: Zero points in 4:05.


The Islanders were 4-8 this week with Nelson scoring twice and adding an assist. Boychuk proved to be a great acquisition early on as he was in on all four goals with one goal and three assists. Tavares also scored and added two helpers while Okposo had two assists as well. Ryan Strome, Nick Leddy, Cory Conacher and Mikhail Grabovski were on the second unit. Lubomir Visnovsky will see some power play time once healthy.



Ryan McDonagh: Zero points in 8:20 minutes of power play time.

Derick Brassard: Zero points in 7:15.

Martin St. Louis: Zero points in 6:49.

Chris Kreider: Zero points in 6:20.

Rick Nash: Zero points in 5:28.

Lee Stempniak: Zero points in 4:43.


The Rangers were 0-8 this week. Daniel Girardi Anthony Duclair, Mats Zuccarello and Matt Hunwick saw second line action with Stempniak. Dan Boyle is out with a broken hand.



Erik Karlsson: Zero points in 13:50 minutes of power play time.

Kyle Turris: Zero points in 8:43.

Bobby Ryan: Zero points in 7:33.

David Legwand: Zero points in 7:52.

Milan Michalek: Zero points in 7:30.

Clarke MacArthur: Zero points in 7:26.


The Senators were 1-8 this week. The second unit did the scoring as Alex Chiasson tickled the twine, with Cody Ceci and Chris Phillips drawing assists. Mika Zibanejad, Mike Hoffman and Ceci were next in ice time.



Mark Streit: 2 points in 15:05 minutes of power play time.

Vincent Lecavalier: 2 points in 13:37.

Claude Giroux: 2 points in 13:33.

Wayne Simmonds: 2 points in 12:23.

Jakub Voracek: 1 point in 11:54.

Sean Couturier: Zero points in 5:41.


The Flyers were 3-13 on the power play. Simmonds scored twice with Giroux getting a goal and an assist. Streit and Lecavalier chipped in with two assists apiece, while Voracek had one. Joining Couturier on the second unit was Matt Read, Andrew MacDonald, Michael Del Zotto and Brayden Schenn.



Kris Letang: 2 points in 8:43 minutes of power play time.

Sidney Crosby: 4 points in 8:11.

Evgeni Malkin: 2 points in 8:09.

Chris Kunitz: 1 points in 8:09.

Patric Hornqvist: 2 points in 6:52.

Christian Ehrhoff: Zero points in 4:16.


The Penguins were 4-9 this week. Crosby was in all four with two goals and two assists. Malkin had one of each with Kunitz finishing the scoring. Letang and Hornqvist each had two assists with Pascal Dupuis getting one. Ehrhoff and Dupuis were joined on the second unit by Steve Downie, Brandon Sutter and Paul Martin.



Alexander Steen: Zero points in 7:25 minutes of power play time.

Kevin Shattenkirk: 2 points in 7:17.

Paul Stastny: 2 points in 6:13.

Alex Pietrangelo: 1 point in 5:49.

Vladimir Tarasenko: Zero points in 5:34.

T.J. Oshie: Zero points in 5:33.


The Blues were 2-10 this week. Pietrangelo and Backes scored with Shattenkirk and Stastny setting up both.  Jay Bouwmeester, Jori Lehtera, Joakim Lindstrom and Jaden Schwartz filled out the first two units for the Blues.



Logan Couture: Zero points in 11:40 minutes of power play time.

Patrick Marleau: 1 point in 11:26.

Brent Burns: 1 point in 10:45.

Jason Demers: Zero points in 9:46.

Joe Thornton: Zero points in 9:34.

Joe Pavelski: Zero points in 9:20.


The Sharks were 1-12 this week as Marleau scored with Burns and Marc-Edouard Vlasic setting him up.  Vlasic, Mirco Mueller. Thomas Hertl and Tommy Wingels rounded out the top-10 Sharks in power play ice time. 



Steve Stamkos: 1 point in 10:55 minutes of power play time.

Valtteri Filppula: Zero points in 10:35.

Victor Hedman: 1 point in 10:10.

Ryan Callahan: 1 point in 10:04.

Ondrej Palat: Zero points in 8:03.

Anton Stralman: Zero points in 6:09.



The Lightning were 4-10 this week with Hedman scoring twice and adding an assist. Callahan and Tyler Johnson completed the scoring. Filppula had three assists with Stamkos and Stralman chipping in with one each. Johnson, Alex Killorn, Nikita Kucherov and Vladislav Namestnikov were seventh through 10th in ice time with Brett Connolly close behind.



Phil Kessel: 2 points in 10:38 minutes of power play time.

James van Riemsdyk: Zero points in 10:25.

Tyler Bozak: 3 points in 10:17.

Dion Phaneuf: 2 points in 9:53.

Morgan Rielly: 1 point 9:51.

Jake Gardiner: 1 point in 9:04.


The Maple Leafs were 5-12 and led all teams the five goals on the man- advantage. Bozak had two goals and an assist with Kessel and Cody Franson getting one each. Joffrey Lupul also scored with Stuart Percy and Phaneuf getting two assists. Rielly and Gardiner had one assist each. Franson replaced Gardiner on the first power play Sunday as he returned from injury, making Gardiner a healthy scratch. Nazem Kadri, Lupul, David Clarkson and Percy also saw plenty of second unit action. 



Radim Vrbata: 2 points in 8:37 minutes of power play time.

Daniel Sedin: 2 points in 8:15.

Henrik Sedin: 1 point in 7:47.

Linden Vey: 1 point in 7:35.

Alexander Edler: Zero points in 7:25.

Nick Bonino: Zero points in 6:11.


The Canucks were 3-10 the first week of the season. Vrbata was in on both goals with one and one while Vey and Alex Burrows scored the other two. Daniel Sedin had assists on both goals with twin brother Henrik, Dan Hamhuis and Chris Tanev assisting on one. Christopher Higgins, Hamhuis. Burrows and Tanev completed the second unit.



Alex Ovechkin: 1 point in 7:45 minutes of power play time.

Troy Brouwer: Zero points in 7:42.

John Carlson: 1 point in 7:37.

Nicklas Backstrom: 1 point in 7:21.

Marcus Johansson: Zero points in 7:21.

Evgeny Kuznetsov: 1 point in 4:09.


The Capitals went 2-9 this week. Ovechkin and Mike Green scored with Carlson, Backstrom, Andre Burakovsky and Kuznetsov drawing the assists. Expect Green to take over the point on the first power play from Carlson. Matt Niskanen, Joel Ward and Eric Fehr also saw time on the second unit along with Kuznetsov.



Dustin Byfuglien: Zero points in 11:12 minutes of power play time.

Tobias Enstrom: Zero points in 10:29

Blake Wheeler: Zero points in 9:29.

Andrew Ladd: Zero points in 9:20.

Bryan Little: Zero points in 9:14.

Mark Scheifele: Zero points in 7:28.



The Jets were 0-9 this week. Mathieu Perreault, Zach Bogosian, Jacob Trouba and Michael Frolik saw second unit action. First liner Evander Kane is out of action for at least a couple weeks and perhaps longer.
