In a new regular column on Rotoworld, we reflect on the tournaments just gone and also take an early peek at the action ahead on the PGA and European Tours. Mo Yoshimoto will take a much deeper delve into what took place this week in The Takeaway.

Wyndham Championship

Final Leaderboard

1. (-22, 258) J.T. Poston (Odds: 80/1; DraftKings pricing: $7,300)
2. (-21, 259) Webb Simpson (Odds: 11/1; DraftKings pricing: $11,200)
3. (-20, 260) Byeong Hun An (Odds: 80/1; DraftKings pricing: $8,200)
4. (-19, 261) Viktor Hovland (Odds: 28/1; DraftKings pricing: $9,500)
5. (-17, 263) Si Woo Kim (Odds: 100/1; DraftKings pricing: $7,000)

Notes: Victory thanks to a closing 62: what a way to win your first PGA TOUR event! Poston had course form of MC-50 at Sedgefield the last two years but had opened the Barbasol (T29) with a 62 and shot a Friday 63 at the Rocket Mortgage Classic (T11) so this didn't come completely from left field. The 'W' lifts him 56 spots to 27th on the FedExCup standings heading to next week's Playoffs. An's wait for a first PGA TOUR title continues despite the 18, 36 and 54-hole leader closing with a 67.

Fate of the favorites

2. (-21, 259) Webb Simpson (Odds: 11/1; DraftKings pricing: $11,200)
MC. (-3, 137) Hideki Matsuyama (Odds: 12/1; DraftKings pricing: $10,900)
31. (-12, 268) Collin Morikawa (Odds: 14/1; DraftKings pricing: $10,400)
MDF. (-2, 208) Jordan Spieth (Odds: 14/1; DraftKings pricing: $10,600)

Notes: Yet another big Wyndham display by Simpson - his third straight top three - but the next three on the list were underwhelming. Spieth made his exit after 54 holes by following a bright 64-67 start with a Saturday 77.

Coming up this week…

The Northern Trust

Location: Liberty National Golf Club, New Jersey. 7,370 yards, par 71.

Notes: It's the start of the Playoffs, with the top 125 in the FedExCup standings qualifying for this opening event, the only one with a cut and views of the Manhattan skyline. The top 70 in the points race head to Medinah for leg two, the BMW Championship, and with the post-season now just three tournaments, we round off with the top 30 battling it out for mega-money (winner pockets $15 million) in the TOUR Championship at East Lake on August 22-25.

Who’s playing? They're all heading to Jersey City - even Tiger Woods, who tied for second in both editions held at Liberty National (2009 and 2013).

Last 5 winners of The Northern Trust

2018 (-18, 266) Bryson DeChambeau (Ridgewood) – 3rd PGA TOUR win
2017 (-13, 267) Dustin Johnson (Glen Oaks) – 16th PGA TOUR win
2016 (-9, 275) Patrick Reed (Bethpage Black) – 5th PGA TOUR win
2015 (-19, 261) Jason Day (Plainfield) – 6th PGA TOUR win
2014 (-14, 270) Hunter Mahan (Ridgewood) – 6th PGA TOUR win

Winners of The Northern Trust at Liberty National

2013 (-11, 273) Adam Scott – 10th PGA TOUR win
2009 (-9, 275) Heath Slocum – 3rd PGA TOUR win

Notes: An event which has rewarded multiple winners despite the switch in location.

European Tour

It's a second dark week on the other side of the pond. The Euro Tour resumes on August 15-18 with the D+D Real Czech Masters.
