NHL GPP Plays: Tuesday

by Tom Woollam

After a huge slate on New Year’s Eve, the NHL comes back with a paltry three-game slate on New Year’s Day. The big one of course is being played in Notre Dame Stadium, where the Chicago Blackhawks will host the Boston Bruins. The rain should subside and the weather looks to hover around 35 degrees by game time, so the rain they received yesterday should have no impact on the game whatsoever.

In the other later games, Philadelphia will visit the Nashville Predators, while the Los Angeles Kings head into Vegas to take on a Golden Knight team that is 12-3-3 on home ice. Let’s take a look at some of the players that could help you win a few dollars over on FanDuel and DraftKings today.

Brandon Pirri - Vegas Golden Knights ($4,000 FD, $5,900 DK)

Since the injury to Max Pacioretty, Brandon Pirri has helped the team not miss a beat, as he leads the team with seven points in the six games he has played in. Of course it doesn’t hurt that he skates with a healthy Paul Stastny and David Perron on the second line of a team that has gone 6-1-3 in their last 10 games. Stastny also has racked up seven points in the last six games, so using them as a duo this evening could pay off big time. The Los Angeles Kings also have the misfortune of playing in Colorado last night, making them one of three other teams that were in action yesterday.

Patrick Kane - Chicago Blackhawks ($8,500 FD, $7,000 DK)

With only three games on tap, it is probably a good idea to grab a superstar or two to anchor your team with. Kane obviously fits that bill, as he has grabbed seven goals and four assists over the last five games. He seems to be almost matchup proof; he also leads the team with 22 goals and 28 assists on 159 shots on goal. Dylan Strome and Artem Anisimov skate with him on the team’s second scoring line if you are looking to use a full line stack.

Viktor Arvidsson - Nashville Predators ($6,400 FD, $6,900 DK)

The Predators played a solid game yesterday in Washington, beating the Capitals by a score of 6-3. Viktor Arvidsson looked the like Arvidsson of old, as he lit the lamp once and added an assist on Nashville’s sixth goal. That now gives him 15 points in the 16 games he has suited up for as he, and Ryan Johansen should do well against a visiting Flyers team who was also in action last night in Carolina.

David Pastrnak - Boston Bruins ($8,300 FD, $8,100 DK)

Although the Blackhawks have been playing better of late, they have still been giving up a few goals. This is where David Pastrnak comes in as he, much like Patrick Kane, could anchor your team to victory today. Yes the Bruins are a bit depleted, but that hasn’t stopped Pastrnak from putting up 13 points over the last three weeks. He leads the Bruins with 23 goals, 48 points and 149 shots on goal, which is almost a mirror image of the totals that Kane has put up so far this season. There two are easily the best players on today’s slate.

Nate Schmidt - Vegas Golden Knights ($4,900 FD, $5,300 DK)

While there a few other options from the point, Nate Schmidt has been the one racking up the points. His eight points over the last 10 games have bolstered his totals to three goals and 10 assists in the 22 games he has appeared in for Vegas this season. As mentioned above, the Golden Knights have been on a roll lately in terms of scoring, which is probably why they are the heaviest favorite on the board at -240 along with a 5 ½ under/over. Look for Vegas to win this evening against a Los Angeles team that has won four of its last five games.
