  • The only preseason top-five third baseman playing up to his ability this year is Anthony Rendon, who has been a non-entity the last 10 days because of a bruised elbow and who finally went on the IL on Tuesday. I’ve dropped Nolan Arenado, Jose Ramirez and Kris Bryant some in the top 300, but they’ve all stayed in their same places here. I would have moved Rendon up to third if not for the injury. With Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Matt Chapman moving up, the top of the list here is definitely more clustered than it was a month ago.
  • I wasn’t sure what to do with Miguel Andujar (elbow). He might return as his usual self in a week or he might suffer a setback that knocks him out for the season. He’s 13th at the moment. That will change if he’s still struggling when Trea Turner comes off the IL.
  • With a .233/.330/.411 line and 28 strikeouts in 24 games in Triple-A, Ian Happ has yet to make much of a case for a return to Chicago, and it doesn’t help matters that David Bote has been so impressive in limited action.
