Targets and Touches

Week 10 NFC Targets/Touches

by Justin Bailey
Updated On: October 4, 2018, 4:04 pm ET

Targets and Touches will only have players’ six most recent games, regardless if they were active or on a bye. The data will be in descending order of games played. NFC will debut on Tuesday, and the AFC will be posted on Wednesday.

All targets and touches data is compiled from Pro Football Reference. Cornerback data is sourced via Pro Football Focus.

Note: I decided to include more players into the Targets and Touches format for the rest of the season. For simplicity, cornerbacks who see at least 50 percent of the prior week’s snaps will be included.

Arizona Cardinals

Targets: Larry Fitzgerald (8, 9, 14, 11, 0, 18), David Johnson (6, 6, 13, 9, 0, 7), John Brown (4, 7, 0, 4, 0, 4), Michael Floyd (3, 2, 7, 0, 0, 6), J.J. Nelson (1, 2, 7, 12, 0, 6), Jermaine Gresham (1, 2, 4, 5, 0, 6), Jaron Brown (3, 5, 0, 0, 0, 0), Darren Fells (0, 1, 0, 0, 0, 0), Andre Ellington (0, 0, 1, 1, 0, 0), Ifeanyi Momah (0, 1, 2, 1, 0, 0), Brittan Golden (0, 0, 1, 2, 0, 0), Hakeem Valles (1, 0, 0, 0, 0, 1), Troy Niklas (0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0), Chris Johnson (0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0)

Carries: David Johnson (27, 22, 33, 10, 0, 19), Chris Johnson (0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0), Andre Ellington (6, 5, 2, 0, 0, 2), Carson Palmer (0, 3, 1, 0, 0, 1), Stepfan Taylor (2, 2, 0, 0, 0, 0), Drew Stanton (2, 1, 0, 0, 0, 0), J.J. Nelson (0, 2, 1, 0, 0, 0), John Brown (0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 1), Larry Fitzgerald (0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0)

RZ Targets: Larry Fitzgerald (0, 2, 0, 1, 0, 3), Michael Floyd (0, 1, 0, 0, 0, 0), David Johnson (1, 0, 0, 0, 0, 1), John Brown (0, 1, 0, 1, 0, 0), J.J. Nelson (0, 0, 0, 3, 0, 0), Jermaine Gresham (0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0), Darren Fells (0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0), Hakeem Valles (0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 1), Ifeanyi Momah (0, 0, 0, 1, 0, 0)

RZ Carries: David Johnson (9, 7, 4, 0, 0, 3), Chris Johnson (0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0), Andre Ellington (0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 1), J.J. Nelson (0, 1, 0, 0, 0, 0)

CBs Thrown At (via PFF): Patrick Peterson  7, 1, 5, 4, 5, 2 (3-48, 0-0, 3-65, 4-54, 2-73, 1-5), Marcus Cooper 5, 8, 2, 11, 5, 7 (5-41, 4-106-2, 3-30, 0-0, 7-79, 4-41, 6-75-1), Justin Bethel 8 (2-66)

Observations: Before the bye week, Bruce Arians came out and said J.J. Nelson had earned a starting WR role. After playing 92 percent of the snaps in Week 8, he then played 62 percent in Week 10, playing behind Michael Floyd. Floyd tied Nelson in targets (6), but Floyd out-produced him after going 5-101, to Nelson’s 2-29. Nelson also lost a fumble and dropped a pass that went for an interception. John Brown played behind all three WRs. It’ll be hard to trust any receiver after Larry Fitzgerald in this offense.

CBs Thrown At: Robert Alford  4, 6, 9, 5, 10, 1 (2-15, 2-15, 7-67-1, 4-30, 8-127-2, 0-0), Desmond Trufant 5, 5, 5, 6, 7, OUT (4-40, 5-54, 3-44, 4-51, 6-56-1, PUT), Jalen Collins 4 (4-38)

Observations: Matt Ryan was locked in on Julio Jones, who garnered 48 percent of the Falcons’ target share on Sunday. No other pass-catcher received more than five targets after Julio.

Carolina Panthers

Targets: Greg Olsen (13, 7, 0, 3, 7, 8), Kelvin Benjamin (9, 14, 0, 5, 7, 12), Ted Ginn (1, 8, 0, 6, 7, 8), Corey Brown (4, 4, 0, 5, 2, 1), Devin Funchess (0, 6, 0, 4, 5, 4), Fozzy Whittaker (1, 2, 0, 2, 1, 2), Ed Dickson (0, 4, 0, 0, 3, 2), Jonathan Stewart (0, 1, 0, 2, 0, 1), Mike Tolbert (0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0), Cameron Artis-Payne (0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0)

Carries: Jonathan Stewart (0, 19, 0, 25, 15, 13), Cam Newton (0, 2, 0, 7, 7, 12), Fozzy Whittaker (5, 1, 0, 2, 1, 2), Cameron Artis-Payne (18, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0), Mike Tolbert (1, 3, 0, 2, 2, 1), Ted Ginn (0, 2, 0, 0, 0, 1), Derek Anderson (1, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0)

RZ Targets: Greg Olsen (2, 1, 0, 1, 1, 0), Kelvin Benjamin (1, 2, 0, 0, 1, 1), Corey Brown (0, 2, 0, 1, 0, 0), Devin Funchess (0, 2, 0, 0, 1, 0), Ed Dickson (0, 2, 0, 0, 0, 0), Jonathan Stewart (0, 0, 0, 1, 0, 0), Mike Tolbert (0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0)

RZ Carries: Jonathan Stewart (0, 4, 0, 7, 3, 0), Cam Newton (0, 1, 0, 5, 1, 2), Mike Tolbert (1, 0, 0, 1, 0, 0), Fozzy Whittaker (1, 1, 0, 0, 0, 0), Cameron Artis-Payne (3, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0)

CBs Thrown At: Daryl Worley 5, 6, 2, 9, 8, 8 (3-73, 3-50, 2-16-1, 6-70-1, 7-80, 3-42), Leonard Johnson 10, 6, 5 (10-77, 5-47, 3-15), James Bradberry 5, 6 (1-10-1, 3-33)

Observations: Predictably, Greg Olsen struggled in this game (5-39) with Eric Berry smothering him for most of the game. He’ll look to rebound against the Saints in Week 11. Benjamin’s box score doesn’t stand out at 7-84, but he had a healthy 12 targets. Like Olsen, Benjamin should look to bounce back against a Saints defense that has allowed the fifth-most passing yards in the league.

Chicago Bears

Targets: Alshon Jeffery (6, 13, 11, 8, 0, 9), Zach Miller (8, 10, 5, 10, 0, 7), Cameron Meredith (12, 15, 2, 2, 0, 2), Eddie Royal (9, 6, 0, 0, 0, 2), Kevin White (0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0), Jordan Howard (3, 4, 1, 4, 0, 0), Jeremy Langford (0, 0, 0, 1, 0, 5), Josh Bellamy (1, 0, 4, 2, 0, 1), Logan Paulsen (1, 0, 0, 2, 0, 1), Ka'Deem Carey (1, 1, 1, 0, 0, 1), Deonte Thompson (0, 0, 2, 1, 0, 0), Ben Braunecker (0, 0, 0, 1, 0, 0), Paul Lasike (0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 1)

RZ Targets: Alshon Jeffery (0, 1, 0, 3, 0, 1), Zach Miller (1, 1, 0, 0, 0, 0), Eddie Royal (2, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0), Cameron Meredith (3, 1, 0, 0, 0, 0), Jordan Howard (0, 2, 0, 1, 0, 0), Kevin White (0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0), Ben Braunecker (0, 0, 0, 1, 0, 0), Ka'Deem Carey (0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0), Logan Paulsen (0, 0, 0, 1, 0, 0), Paul Lasike (0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 1)

CBs Thrown At: Cre’von LeBlanc 1, 5, 3, 11, 4, 4 (1-10, 3-73, 1-5, 7-46-1, 4-52, 0-0), Tracy Porter 5, 8, 2, 10, 6 (4-50, 4-100-1, 1-11, 5-37, 6-88)

Observations:  Cameron Meredith caught Jay Cutler’s only touchdown pass of the game on a desperation Hail Mary toss as time expired. He finished 1-50-1 for the game on two targets. Although it may not have looked like it, Alshon Jeffery is now suspended four games four using PEDs. Eddie Royal and Meredith are now the top two wide receivers on the team for the time being. Jordan Howard handled the majority of the workload for the Bears, playing 82 percent of the snaps and garnering 15 carries. He may have an Achilles or ankle injury that we should monitor throughout the week.

Dallas Cowboys

Observations: Ezekiel Elliott had a massive game with 209 total yards and three touchdowns against the Steelers. There isn’t any analysis to do on that. He’s just amazing. Dak Prescott continues to impress after throwing for 319-2, he’s now tied with Matt Ryan as the league’s second-most efficient QB, averaging .59 fantasy points per dropback. They trail only Tom Brady. Dez Bryant now has 27 targets over the last three weeks, combining for 248 yards and two touchdowns. The Cowboys take on the Ravens in Week 11.

Detroit Lions - Bye Week

Targets: Golden Tate (4, 5, 10, 12, 9, 12), Marvin Jones (7, 5, 6, 5, 7, 5), Anquan Boldin (8, 4, 9, 4, 3, 4), Theo Riddick (7, 6, 0, 0, 11, 3), Eric Ebron (5, 0, 0, 0, 10, 8), Andre Roberts (1, 1, 2, 2, 0, 1), Zach Zenner (1, 2, 2, 2, 1, 0), Ameer Abdullah (0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0), Clay Harbor (0, 0, 1, 2, 0, 0), Cole Wick (1, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0), Dwayne Washington (1, 0, 0, 0, 0, 1), Justin Forsett (0, 0, 1, 2, 0, 0), Khari Lee (1, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0), Mike Burton (0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 1)

CBs Thrown At: Nevin Lawson 5, 5, 2, 5, 5, 4 (4-25-1, 2-25, 2-17, 3-17, 2-33, 3-15), Quandre Diggs 5, 3, 3, 2, 4 (5-65-1, 3-12, 3-26, 2-22, 3-23), Johnson Bademosi 5, 5, 8 (5-72, 3-26, 5-72)

CBs Thrown At:  Ladarius Gunter 2, 6, 9, 6, 7, 2 (0-0, 6-119-2, 3-33, 3-30, 7-107-1, 1-8), Micah Hyde 1, 4 (1-17, 4-58)

Observations: Ty Montgomery was fun while it lasted, but he played just 28 percent of the snaps in Week 10, while James Starks took over at RB, playing 71 percent of the snaps. Randall Cobb’s snap count rose from 33 percent to 69 percent within the last two weeks, but in a game where Aaron Rodgers threw for 371 yards on 51 pass attempts, Cobb could only muster 31 yards on eight targets. Davante Adams (6-156) and Jordy Nelson (12-126-1) each had a massive game as they combined for 76 percent of Rodgers’ passing yards.

Los Angeles Rams

Targets: Tavon Austin (10, 4, 15, 0, 2, 7), Kenny Britt (6, 8, 8, 0, 6, 10), Lance Kendricks (3, 8, 9, 0, 12, 2), Brian Quick (4, 5, 9, 0, 6, 4), Todd Gurley (5, 4, 7, 0, 5, 1), Benny Cunningham (0, 2, 1, 0, 6, 5), Tyler Higbee (1, 0, 1, 0, 7, 0), Bradley Marquez (0, 1, 1, 0, 1, 0), Pharoh Cooper (1, 0, 0, 0, 1, 1), Malcolm Brown (1, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0), Michael Thomas (0, 0, 1, 0, 0, 0)

Carries: Todd Gurley (23, 14, 15, 0, 12, 21), Case Keenum (0, 3, 1, 0, 0, 5), Benny Cunningham (0, 2, 3, 0, 3, 6), Tavon Austin (3, 3, 1, 0, 1, 2), Malcolm Brown (2, 0, 0, 0, 1, 0), Bradley Marquez (1, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0)

RZ Targets: Tavon Austin (3, 0, 2, 0, 0, 2), Todd Gurley (3, 3, 1, 0, 0, 0), Kenny Britt (0, 3, 0, 0, 2, 0), Lance Kendricks (0, 1, 0, 0, 2, 1), Benny Cunningham (0, 0, 1, 0, 0, 2), Brian Quick (0, 0, 1, 0, 1, 0), Tyler Higbee (0, 0, 0, 0, 1, 0), Bradley Marquez (0, 0, 1, 0, 0, 0), Michael Thomas (0, 0, 1, 0, 0, 0)

RZ Carries: Todd Gurley (6, 4, 1, 0, 1, 2), Tavon Austin (2, 1, 0, 0, 0, 0), Benny Cunningham (0, 0, 1, 0, 0, 1), Case Keenum (0, 1, 0, 0, 0, 0)

CBs Thrown At: E.J. Gaines 7, 7, 6, 10, 8, 6 (6-55, 3-35-1, 6-55-2, 6-80, 5-70, 5-66), Trumaine Johnson 9, 4 (4-40, 2-10)

Observations: Perhaps the most disappointing play from this offense was Lance Kendricks. Kendricks had seen eight or more targets the last three weeks but saw just two targets against the Jets. Kenny Britt was the lone bright spot in this offense catching seven of his 10 targets for 109 yards. Case Keenum threw for a mere 165 yards and zero touchdowns. Tavon Austin ranks 24th in the league in targets (73), but 90th in receiving yards (335.)

Observations: Stefon Diggs continues to thrive when he’s healthy. Now the second game with their new offensive coordinator and saw 15 targets, and caught 13 of them for 164 yards. The last three weeks, Diggs leads the league in targets (41), receptions (34) and receiving yards (320.) In that span, he has 11 more receptions than the next closest player -- Jordan Matthews.

Observations: The Saints’ RB timeshare continues with Mark Ingram and Tim Hightower. Ingram out-touched Hightower slightly 13-10, but Ingram also played 43 percent of the snaps to Hightower's 27 percent. The Saints backfield may struggle against the Panthers’ stout run defense in Week 11.

New York Giants

Targets: Odell Beckham (12, 10, 9, 0, 10, 11), Sterling Shepard (7, 8, 7, 0, 6, 7), Victor Cruz (2, 7, 8, 0, 1, 0), Will Tye (3, 2, 3, 0, 7, 8), Bobby Rainey (6, 3, 1, 0, 0, 0), Larry Donnell (0, 7, 3, 0, 0, 0), Rashad Jennings (0, 4, 3, 0, 3, 6), Paul Perkins (2, 2, 1, 0, 3, 3), Shane Vereen (0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0), Jerell Adams (2, 0, 1, 0, 4, 3), Roger Lewis (0, 3, 1, 0, 2, 4), Orleans Darkwa (0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0), Tavarres King (1, 0, 0, 0, 0, 2)

Observations: Rashad Jennings and Paul Perkins split snaps 60/40 on Monday night, but Jennings out-touched Perkins 18-to-9 while tallying 109 total yards to Perkins 31. Jennings may have a grasp on this backfield for a bit longer. Will Tye now has 15 targets in the last two weeks, and could be a viable streaming option against the Bears in Week 11.

Philadelphia Eagles

Targets: Jordan Matthews (4, 7, 4, 14, 10, 10), Nelson Agholor (7, 4, 6, 4, 7, 5), Darren Sproles (4, 1, 3, 7, 9, 10), Dorial Green-Beckham (4, 4, 4, 9, 5, 0), Zach Ertz (3, 3, 3, 4, 8, 7), Trey Burton (2, 1, 1, 2, 3, 0), Josh Huff (3, 0, 4, 1, 0, 0), Ryan Mathews (5, 0, 1, 1, 1, 2), Brent Celek (0, 0, 2, 0, 0, 1), Bryce Treggs (0, 0, 0, 0, 4, 0), Wendell Smallwood (0, 2, 0, 0, 0, 1), Kenjon Barner (0, 0, 0, 1, 0, 0)

Carries: Ryan Mathews (11, 9, 14, 4, 5, 19), Darren Sproles (5, 4, 3, 15, 13, 2), Wendell Smallwood (0, 4, 4, 1, 2, 13), Carson Wentz (2, 2, 5, 1, 4, 4), Kenjon Barner (0, 2, 0, 3, 1, 0), Josh Huff (2, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0), Nelson Agholor (1, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0)

RZ Targets: Nelson Agholor (1, 1, 2, 2, 1, 1), Darren Sproles (0, 0, 0, 2, 4, 1), Jordan Matthews (0, 0, 1, 1, 2, 0), Dorial Green-Beckham (2, 0, 1, 2, 2, 0), Josh Huff (1, 0, 1, 0, 0, 0), Zach Ertz (0, 2, 0, 0, 1, 1), Ryan Mathews (1, 0, 0, 0, 1, 0), Trey Burton (0, 0, 0, 1, 0, 0), Brent Celek (0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0), Kenjon Barner (0, 0, 0, 1, 0, 0)

RZ Carries: Ryan Mathews (2, 0, 0, 3, 4, 8), Darren Sproles (1, 1, 1, 2, 2, 0), Carson Wentz (0, 0, 2, 0, 1, 0), Kenjon Barner (0, 1, 0, 0, 1, 0), Wendell Smallwood (0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0)

CBs Thrown At: Nolan Carroll 2, 4, 6, 10, 3, 7 (2-26, 4-53, 4-53, 4-65-1, 1-10, 5-56), Leodis McKelvin 5, 10, 6, 5 (3-27-1, 3-87, 5-113-3, 2-92-1)

Observations: Remember when HC Doug Pederson admitted Darren Sproles was the lead back for the Eagles? Good times. After playing 80+ percent of the snaps in the last two weeks, along with 13+ carries in that same span, things took a drastic turn. Sproles played just 39 percent of the snaps in Week 10 and saw two carries. His day was saved as he caught eight passes for 57 yards. Wendell Smallwood had played one percent and five percent of the snaps in the last two weeks, then plays 24 percent of the snaps and receives 13 carries that he took for 70 yards. Ah, almost forgot about Ryan Matthews. Matthews played 10 percent and 11 percent of the snaps the last two weeks and then plays 33 percent in Week 10, along with leading the Eagles in rush attempts (19), rushing yards (108) and he scored twice. Just a week after Sproles was deemed the “lead back.” Aaaaaaaaand time! How’d I do?

San Francisco 49ers

Targets: Jeremy Kerley (13, 7, 5, 0, 6, 7), Quinton Patton (2, 7, 4, 0, 9, 9), Torrey Smith (1, 7, 2, 0, 3, 4), Garrett Celek (6, 0, 3, 0, 6, 0), Vance McDonald (0, 2, 6, 0, 6, 6), Carlos Hyde (6, 0, 0, 0, 0, 1), Shaun Draughn (0, 1, 7, 0, 0, 0), DuJuan Harris (0, 0, 2, 0, 6, 0), Rod Streater (1, 1, 1, 0, 0, 2), Aaron Burbridge (0, 0, 2, 0, 2, 0), Blake Bell (2, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0), Mike Davis (0, 3, 0, 0, 1, 0), Chris Harper (0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 1)

Carries: Carlos Hyde (22, 14, 0, 0, 0, 13), Blaine Gabbert (10, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0), Colin Kaepernick (0, 8, 9, 0, 5, 10), Shaun Draughn (2, 1, 1, 0, 0, 0), DuJuan Harris (0, 0, 11, 0, 10, 5), Mike Davis (2, 5, 7, 0, 2, 0)

RZ Targets: Jeremy Kerley (3, 0, 1, 0, 0, 1), Quinton Patton (1, 1, 0, 0, 1, 0), Shaun Draughn (0, 0, 1, 0, 0, 0), Torrey Smith (0, 1, 0, 0, 0, 0), Vance McDonald (0, 0, 0, 0, 1, 1), Aaron Burbridge (0, 0, 0, 0, 1, 0), Blake Bell (2, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0), Carlos Hyde (0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 1), Mike Davis (0, 1, 0, 0, 1, 0), DuJuan Harris (0, 0, 1, 0, 0, 0), Garrett Celek (0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0)

RZ Carries: Carlos Hyde (4, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0), Blaine Gabbert (1, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0), Shaun Draughn (0, 1, 0, 0, 0, 0), Colin Kaepernick (0, 0, 0, 0, 1, 1), Mike Davis (0, 0, 1, 0, 1, 0), DuJuan Harris (0, 0, 1, 0, 0, 0)

CBs Thrown At: Tramaine Brock 2, 9, 3, 7, 5, 9 (2-24-2, 2-50-2, 1-6, 3-22, 3-38-1, 6-89), Jimmie Ward 6, 12 (4-35-1, 6-53), Keith Reaser 5 (3-41)

Observations:  Carlos Hyde returned from injury and played 67 percent of the snaps to DuJuan Harris’ 33 percent. Hyde out-touched him 13-to-5, but they ended the day with 14 rushing yards each. None of the 49ers offensive weapons jumped off the page against a tough Arizona defense, but Quinton Patton saw nine targets for the second straight week. He’s not a fantasy option going forward.

Seattle Seahawks

Targets: Doug Baldwin (0, 5, 9, 6, 6, 8), Jimmy Graham (0, 9, 10, 5, 8, 4), Jermaine Kearse (0, 5, 4, 7, 4, 7), Tyler Lockett (0, 5, 2, 4, 2, 6), Christine Michael (0, 3, 3, 2, 0, 1), Paul Richardson (0, 0, 2, 3, 1, 3), C.J. RZ Carries: Christine Michael (0, 4, 1, 1, 1, 2), C.J. Prosise (0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 8), Alex Collins (0, 1, 0, 0, 0, 0), C.J. Spiller (0, 1, 0, 0, 0, 0), Thomas Rawls (0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0), Russell Wilson (0, 0, 0, 0, 1, 0), Trevone Boykin (0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0)

CBs Thrown At: DeShawn Shead 4, 12, 10, 7, 4, 8  (1-7, 8-87, 5-71, 6-53, 4-35, 4-92), Richard Sherman 12, 7, 7, 5, 3, 1 (4-89-1, 5-92-1, 4-86, 4-62, 2-33, 1-6)

Observations: C.J. Prosise dominated the backfield touches for the Seahawks with Christine Michael playing 16 percent of the snaps. Prosise garnered 77 percent of the backfield snaps and had 17 carries, along with seven receptions. While Prosise turned in a nice game with 153 total yards, things may begin to get murky when Thomas Rawls returns. Prosise would likely take over passing-down duties when all RBs are back healthy.

CBs Thrown At: Vernon Hargreaves 6, 8, 4, 16, 11, 5 (5-48, 6-70, 2-16, 10-173, 9-125-1, 1-13), Brent Grimes 12, 2, 5, 7, 8, 4 (6-88-1, 1-13, 3-32, 3-25, 5-116-1, 3-25)

Observations: The streak is broken. After receiving double-digit targets in every game this year, Mike Evans saw just five targets against the Bears. The Bucs eased Doug Martin into action as he played 41 percent of the snaps. However, he did see 16 carries, but he averaged just over 2.0 YPC. He may have saved fantasy owners as he scored a late touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Washington Redskins

Observations: With Matt Jones a healthy scratch, Rob Kelley led the Redskins’ backfield with 22 carries. He ran for 97 yards and averaged just 3.6 YPC against a tough Minnesota run defense. Kelley is on the low-end RB2/3 range, but he’s not a bad fill-in for your roster as he’s someone you didn’t invest any draft equity into.
