Targets and Touches

Week 15 NFC Targets/Touches

by Justin Bailey
Updated On: October 4, 2018, 4:04 pm ET

Targets and Touches will only have players’ six most recent games, regardless if they were active or on a bye. The data will be in descending order of games played. NFC will debut on Tuesday, and the AFC will be posted on Wednesday.

All targets and touches data is compiled from Pro Football Reference. Cornerback data is sourced via Pro Football Focus.

Note: I decided to include more players into the Targets and Touches format for the rest of the season. For simplicity, cornerbacks who see at least 50 percent of the prior week’s snaps will be included.

Arizona Cardinals

Targets: Larry Fitzgerald (18, 7, 4, 11, 9, 9), David Johnson (7, 11, 11, 12, 8, 5), Michael Floyd (6, 5, 5, 8, 3, 0), John Brown (4, 4, 2, 1, 0, 6), J.J. Observations: In the Cardinals’ first game without Michael Floyd, the snap percentages played out just about how we expected. J.J. Nelson was second on the team with 78 percent of the snaps, and Nelson also led the Cardinals with 11 targets. John Brown played more than 50 percent of the snaps for the first time since Week 11 and managed a nice 5-81-1 line. Brittan Golden was the fourth WR that rotated in and out with 31 percent of the snaps. The Cardinals will have a tough time on the road at Seattle next week.

Observations: With Julio Jones sidelined again, Aldrick Robinson led the Falcons in (81 percent) for the second week in a row. He had an efficient 4-111 line as Matt Ryan only threw the ball 23 times. Devonta Freeman paved the way for the Falcons as he racked up 139 yards on the ground while scoring three times. Freeman out-carried Tevin Coleman 20-to-14. The Falcons take on the Panthers in Week 16.

Carolina Panthers

Targets: Greg Olsen (8, 7, 5, 7, 7, 9), Kelvin Benjamin (12, 4, 5, 9, 4, 4), Ted Ginn (8, 4, 10, 6, 4, 8), Devin Funchess (4, 7, 2, 4, 5, 3), Corey Brown (1, 3, 0, 2, 3, 4), Fozzy Whittaker (2, 0, 2, 0, 1, 1), Ed Dickson (2, 1, 0, 1, 1, 1), Jonathan Stewart (1, 4, 1, 1, 2, 2), Mike Tolbert (0, 2, 2, 1, 0, 3), Brenton Bersin (0, 0, 0, 1, 0, 0), Cameron Artis-Payne (0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0)

Carries: Jonathan Stewart (13, 18, 17, 11, 24, 25), Cam Newton (12, 5, 3, 3, 8, 3), Fozzy Whittaker (2, 1, 4, 1, 3, 3), Cameron Artis-Payne (0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0), Mike Tolbert (1, 2, 0, 4, 0, 2), Ted Ginn (1, 1, 1, 1, 2, 0), Corey Brown (0, 0, 0, 1, 1, 0), Derek Anderson (0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0)

Observations: Jonathan Stewart gashed the Redskins’ defense for 132 yards on 25 carries. It was his first 100-yard game of the season. Fantasy owners should be thrilled he draws the Falcons in Week 16 for their fantasy playoffs. It’s not a good sign when Cam Newton has 37 pass attempts and 300 yards passing, and Kelvin Benjamin is responsible for just two receptions and 20 yards on four targets. Ted Ginn has out-produced Benjamin in five of the last six games.

Cameron Meredith was targeted a team-high 13 times and managed to catch nine of his 13 targets for 104 yards. Deonte Thompson was targeted 10 times, played 71 percent of the snaps, and led the Bears with 110 yards receiving. The Bears take on the Redskins in Week 16.

CBs Thrown At: Brandon Carr 5, 2, 8, 9, 10, 6  (3-50, 1-22, 6-75-1, 7-89, 5-106-1, 4-83-1),  Orlando Scandrick 6, 5, 7, 6, 2, 5 (5-40-1, 4-43, 5-35, 5-26, 1-14, 3-44), Anthony Brown 9, 11, 6, 4, 5 (5-49-1, 9-128-1, 5-26, 1-4, 2-32)

After facing the Giants and the Vikings on the road, Dak Prescott bounced back completing 32 of his 36 passes for 279 yards. Dak didn’t throw a touchdown or an interception, but he had a nice 20-yard touchdown run. Prescott was able to reconnect with Dez Bryant, as he was targeted 10 times and caught eight of his targets for 82 yards. Jason Witten also caught 10 passes, but his upside is almost non-existent.

Detroit Lions

CBs Thrown At:  Ladarius Gunter 2, 7, 7, 3, 6, 3  (1-8, 5-117-1, 5-52, 1-11, 1-5, 1-10), Quinten Rollins 6, 1, 6, 6, 11  (6-87-1, 0-0, 4-25-1, 5-58, 10-123), Damarious Randall 6, 4, 9, 10 (5-44, 2-68-1, 5-68-1, 6-95-2)

Observations: Ty Montgomery had no issue running all over the Bears’ defense on Sunday. Montgomery had a massive day, accumulating 162 yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries for the Packers. Montgomery should still be in store for a nice day against the Vikings in Week 16, as he is also a threat to catch the ball out of the backfield.

Observations: The Rams’ offense struggled on the road against Seattle as they only mustered 182 yards of total offense. Kenny Britt led the Rams with 50 yards, catching four of his eight targets. After Britt, no other Rams player had more than 38 yards of offense.

RZ Targets: Kyle Rudolph (2, 0, 2, 1, 4, 1), Stefon Diggs (0, 0, 0, 1, 0, 0), Adam Thielen (1, 1, 0, 1, 0, 0), Cordarrelle Patterson (0, 1, 0, 1, 0, 1), Jerick McKinnon (0, 0, 0, 1, 2, 0), Rhett Ellison (0, 1, 0, 0, 2, 0), Zach Line (1, 0, 0, 0, 1, 0), Charles Johnson (0, 0, 1, 0, 0, 1), Matt Asiata (0, 0, 1, 0, 1, 0), Laquon Treadwell (0, 0, 0, 1, 0, 0)

Observations: Adrian Peterson played 12 snaps in first game back from injury, and he had little to show for it. Peterson carried the ball six times for just 22 yards and also lost a fumble. Stefon Diggs is no longer the target hog he once was, as he saw just five targets in a game where Sam Bradford threw the ball 42 times. Adam Thielen left the game with a neck injury, and Charles Johnson stepped in, catching all five of his targets for 50 yards. Kyle Rudolph remains the one consistent fantasy option on the Vikings, with eight or more targets in the last four games.

New Orleans Saints

Targets: Brandin Cooks (5, 8, 0, 9, 10, 8), Michael Thomas (6, 5, 10, 5, 0, 10), Willie Snead (7, 5, 7, 6, 8, 11), Coby Fleener (2, 5, 4, 7, 3, 3), Mark Ingram (2, 4, 2, 5, 2, 4), Travaris Cadet (3, 0, 0, 6, 5, 5), Brandon Coleman (1, 2, 1, 0, 8, 1), Tim Hightower (2, 9, 2, 1, 2, 3), Josh Hill (1, 2, 6, 2, 0, 0), John Kuhn (0, 2, 1, 1, 2, 2), Tommylee Lewis (0, 0, 2, 0, 0, 0), Daniel Lasco (0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0), John Phillips (0, 1, 0, 0, 1, 1), Marcus Murphy (0, 1, 0, 0, 0, 0)

CBs Thrown At:  Sterling Moore 7, 6, 3, 7, 2, 9 (5-53, 4-35, 2-22, 5-47, 1-9, 8-77), B.W. Webb 11 (6-90-1)

Observations: Drew Brees played as if he was in the Superdome, as he torched the Cardinals for 389 yards and four touchdowns. Brandin Cooks finally bounced back with 186 yards and two touchdowns on eight targets. Willie Snead, Michael Thomas, and Cooks all saw eight or more targets and turned in respectable fantasy days. Mark Ingram out-carried Tim Hightower 17-to-11, but Hightower saw the two carries inside the five-yard line that he was able to convert for two touchdowns. The Saints are back in the Superdome against the Buccaneers next week.

New York Giants

Observations: There was very little offense in this game as Eli Manning threw for just 201 yards and two scores. Odell Beckham managed to find the end zone on an amazing one-handed grab and finish the day with a 6-84-1 line on eight targets. OBJ has seven touchdowns in his last seven games.

Philadelphia Eagles

CBs Thrown At: Nolan Carroll 7, 5, 4, 5, 6, 4 (5-56, 2-29, 3-49-1, 4-76, 5-42-1, 1-10), Leodis McKelvin 5, 4, 6, 8, 9, 2 (2-92-1, 2-8, 5-87-1, 7-97, 5-119-1, 1-54)

Observations: The Eagles’ offense was non-existent against a tough Baltimore defense. Carson Wentz managed just 140 yards and an interception on 42 pass attempts. Baltimore has had an elite run defense this season, but Ryan Matthews gashed them on the ground for 128 yards and a score on 20 carries. The Eagles’ offense won’t offer much upside against a difficult matchup with the Giants in Week 16.

Observations:  Carlos Hyde had potential to have a more than serviceable game against the Falcons, but game script got out of hand quickly, and Hyde finished the game with just 13 carries. The 49ers take on the putrid Rams on Christmas Eve.

Seattle Seahawks

Targets: Doug Baldwin (8, 5, 8, 7, 11, 6), Jimmy Graham (4, 5, 7, 9, 4, 2), Jermaine Kearse (7, 6, 5, 9, 6, 2), Tyler Lockett (6, 3, 6, 6, 6, 8), Christine Michael (1, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0), Paul Richardson (3, 3, 3, 0, 0, 0), C.J. Observations: Russell Wilson had an efficient three touchdown effort on just 26 pass attempts against the Rams. Reports came out that Tyler Lockett may be working ahead of Jermaine Kearse in two-WR sets, although Lockett out-snapped Kearse by just one snap, Lockett erupted for 130 yards and a touchdown, while catching seven of his eight targets. Lockett was responsible for 57 percent of Wilson’s passing yards. Jimmy Graham was targeted just twice Thursday night. The Seahawks take on the Cardinals in Week 16.

Observations: Cameron Brate tied Mike Evans for the team-lead with eight targets, but Brate turned in the better fantasy day with a 5-72-1 line. Brate has been benefiting with opposing defenses focusing on trying to stop Evans. Evans will look to bounce back against a Saints team that held him to 42 yards just two games ago.

CBs Thrown At: Josh Norman 3, 5, 7, 6, 3, 3  (3-16-1, 1-13, 5-61, 4-39, 1-14, 2-28), Bashaud Breeland 3, 5, 5, 7, 9, 8 (2-11, 3-9, 2-18-1, 4-49, 9-84-1, 3-27)

Observations: Hopefully fantasy owners weren’t counting on Jordan Reed because aside from playing limited snaps with his shoulder injury, Reed was ejected for punching Kurt Coleman. Pierre Garcon (7-78) and DeSean Jackson (7-111) were the lone bright spots for the Redskins. Garcon and Jackson each saw 10+ targets in a night where Kirk Cousins had 47 pass attempts. With Reed ejected and dealing with an injury, Vernon Davis saw steady volume with nine targets but managed just four receptions for 23 yards. Davis had a few drops, including a surefire touchdown. The Redskins will look to bounce back against the Bears in Week 16.
