Waiver Wired: Burakovsky is buzzing

Oliver Bjorkstrand went from being owned in 32% of Yahoo leagues a week ago to 39%.  He has five goals during a three-game point streak and 10 markers in his last seven outings.  Joel Armia and Anthony Cirelli are available in 76% of Yahoo leagues, while Christian Dvorak can still be had in 81% of Yahoo pools.  Kailer Yamamoto, who has 10 points in 11 games with Edmonton, is owned in only 8% of Yahoo leagues.  He also has 15 shots, 25 hits and six blocks. Pick him up.

There haven’t been many defensemen featured on Waiver Wired lately, so as a bonus for this week’s edition here are three blueliners worthy of some fantasy attention.  Matt Niskanen (owned in 20% of Yahoo leagues), Rasmus Sandin (owned in 26% of Yahoo leagues) and Damon Severson (owned in 3% of Yahoo leagues) are decent pickups.

Jake DeBrusk (Boston) - LW, RW - Owned in 33% of Yahoo leagues

DeBrusk has three goals and two assists during a four-game point streak.  He started to heat up in January and he has amassed six goals and 12 points in the past 10 games.  He has played with Charlie Coyle and David Krejci as his center during that span, while continuing to see action on Boston’s top power-play unit.  That gives DeBrusk exposure to Brad Marchand, David Pastrnak and Patrice Bergeron.  He will have plenty of chances to keep rolling this week with four games on tap for the Bruins.

Frank Vatrano (Florida) - LW, RW - Owned in 28% of Yahoo leagues

Vatrano’s five-game point streak was snapped on Saturday in Florida’s first game back from the All-Star break.  He had five goals and four assists during his scoring spree and he wrapped up the month of January with seven markers and 12 points in 10 contests.  The Panthers will look to shake off the rust in four matches this coming week and Vatrano is worthy of a flier to see if his hot play can continue.

Andre Burakovsky (Colorado) - LW, RW - Owned in 27% of Yahoo leagues

Burakovsky went into the All-Star break with two goals and six assists in six games.  The Avalanche went 11 days between games before returning to action on Saturday night against Philadelphia and it didn’t cool off Burakovsky.  He posted one goal and one assist in a 6-3 loss to give him three goals and four helpers during a four-game point streak.  Burakovsky is having a career year with Colorado.  He is already up 16 goals and 35 points in 47 contests.  Burakovsky is skating on the second line with Nazem Kadri and Valeri Nichushkin.  The Avalanche play four times this coming week, which poolies can take advantage of, but Burakovsky has fantasy value beyond that as well.

Anton Khudobin (Dallas) - G - Owned in 27% of Yahoo leagues

Dallas plays four times this coming week, including two sets of back-to-back matches, so Khudobin will probably share the crease with Ben Bishop.  Khudobin lost two games prior to the All-Star break, but he went 8-2-0 in 11 appearances prior to that.  He stopped 327 of 347 shots for a .942 save percentage during that 11-game stretch.  Khudobin has posted solid numbers this season with 11 wins, a 2.30 GAA and .927 save percentage in 20 appearances.

Pavel Francouz (Colorado) - G - Owned in 22% of Yahoo leagues

Colorado’s road trip will continue this week with four games, including a back-to-back situation.  Francouz should see at least one start and could get two if coach Jared Bednar decides to split the goaltending duties.  Francouz has played well this season, while serving as Philipp Grubauer’s understudy.  In 20 appearances, he has a 12-4-2 record with a 2.45 goals-against average and .924 save percentage.

Zach Hyman (Toronto) - C, LW - Owned in 21% of Yahoo leagues

Hyman has amassed 12 goals and 22 points in the last 23 games.  He has accounted for five goals and 10 points in the past 10 outings, including two markers and two helpers during a three-game point streak since the end of the All-Star break.  Hyman has been logging big minutes alongside valuable forwards Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner, while skating on the second power-play unit and seeing plenty of penalty kill time.

Jake Virtanen (Vancouver) - RW - Owned in 18% of Yahoo leagues

Virtanen appeared on Waiver Wired last week when he was owned in 11% of Yahoo leagues.  He is still available in the majority of pools despite having eight goals and 16 points in the past 20 games.  Virtanen has been skating alongside Elias Pettersson and J.T. Miller, who are the top-two offensive producers on the Canucks.  He also plays on the team’s second power-play unit and he’s tied for third on the club with 78 hits in 52 games.

Brandon Saad (Chicago) - LW, RW - Owned in 8% of Yahoo leagues

Saad has netted four goals and four games since missing 12 contests with an ankle injury.  He has been skating alongside Patrick Kane, who is riding a 12-game point streak, since his return to the lineup.  He has 15 goals and 23 points in 40 appearances this campaign.

Alex Iafallo (Los Angeles) - LW - Owned in 5% of Yahoo leagues

Iafallo has racked up nine goals and 17 points in the past 19 games.  He had a nine-game point streak from Dec. 21-Jan. 9 during that stretch and he has four goals, including a hat trick, in three outings since Los Angeles resumed play from the All-Star break.  Iafallo, who ranks second on the Kings with 31 points in 53 matches, is having a career year, while playing on the top line and top power-play unit with Anze Kopitar.

Zach Sanford (St. Louis) - C, LW - Owned in 2% of Yahoo leagues

Sanford has heated up with three goals and six assists in the past eight games.  He has two markers and five helpers during a five-game point streak.  Sanford has developed some chemistry with top-line forwards David Perron, who leads the Blues in goals (23) and points (53), and Ryan O'Reilly, who is second on the team in scoring, which has finally led to some offensive production.
