Waiver Wired: Rakell Returns

Updated On: October 4, 2018, 4:04 pm ET

Victor Rask has gone two games without a point after his eight-game point streak, but he should get back on track soon. He is up to 30% owned in Yahoo leagues after he sat at 21% a week ago. Marcus Johansson exploded from a 24% ownership to 65% after he was featured last week. Jimmy Vesey also his stock rise from 21% to 51%.

Damon Severson is still available in 81% of fantasy leagues. He has been excellent early in the season with nine points in 10 games. Severson is surprisingly first on the Devils in scoring.

Nikolaj Ehlers (WPG) - LW, RW - Owned in 30% of Yahoo leagues

Ehlers has been averaging just under 18 minutes of ice time per game on Winnipeg’s top-two lines, so he was bound to heat up eventually. He exploded for four points, including three assists, against Detroit on Friday. Hopefully, it’s the start of some consistent production from the 20-year-old winger. If it is then it could be your last chance to pick him up before the waiver wire is flooded with adds of Ehlers.

Rickard Rakell (ANA) - C - Owned in 24% of Yahoo leagues

Rakell returned to the Anaheim lineup in style earlier this week. He notched one goal and two assists in his first game back Tuesday against Los Angeles and then he posted two goals and one helper on Friday versus Arizona. Rakell also chipped in two power-play assists and racked up 13 shots on goal. He can play center or the wing and he has been playing the latter lately. If that doesn’t change when Ryan Getzlaf returns from injury then he could be a candidate to play with Getzlaf and Corey Perry.

Kevin Hayes (NYR) - C, RW - Owned in 20% of Yahoo leagues

Hayes has been red hot after a slow start to the season. He is riding a four-game point streak and a three-game goal scoring spree going into Sunday’s match against Winnipeg. Hayes has compiled eight points over that span thanks to a pair of three-point performances. He has been clicking alongside J.T. Miller and Michael Grabner. Hayes is certainly worthy of a flyer, but he probably won’t crack New York’s top-six group unless there is an injury.

Mike Condon (OTT) - G - Owned in 20% of Yahoo leagues

The Senators obtained Condon from Pittsburgh because of Craig Anderson’s uncertain status and Andrew Hammond’s groin injury. Anderson has been riding an emotional roller coaster following his wife’s cancer diagnosis and he has left the team twice to be with her. Condon provides some insurance for Anderson owners if you have the bench room. Ottawa also plays four times this coming week, including a back-to-back set, so Condon is sure to get some playing time. He turned aside all 27 shots he faced in his first game with the Senators this past Thursday against Vancouver.

Alexander Wennberg (CBJ) - C - Owned in 16% of Yahoo leagues

Wennberg hasn’t scored a goal since Columbus’ season opener, but he has been piling up assists. He has been held off the scoresheet in only three of his 10 appearances this campaign. Wennberg has generated 11 helpers and he co-leads the Blue Jackets in scoring with 12 points. He is also first on the club with eight power-play points. The 22-year-old will need to up his goal total to become a permanent fixture in standard leagues, but he is proving to be a productive top-two center on Columbus. He has meshed nicely between Nick Foligno and Brandon Saad.

Michael Frolik (CGY) - C, RW - Owned in 8% of Yahoo leagues

Frolik’s four-game scoring streak ended Saturday night. He entered the match with a spree of two goals and three assists. Frolik leads the Flames with five goals and nine points in 13 games this season. He has done most of his damage at even strength alongside Mikael Backlund, but he has also registered two shorthanded markers. Frolik’s new personal high scoring pace is bound to slow down, but he is an option to ride while he’s hot.

Travis Zajac (NJD) - C - Owned in 5% of Yahoo leagues

Zajac has been a steady point producer this season even though the Devils have struggled to score so far. He has accounted for four goals and seven points in 10 games. Zajac has moved back into New Jersey’s first-line center position alongside Taylor Hall, where he has enjoyed success this year. Zajac may not get back to the 60-point plateau this year, but he should at least be able to get to the 50-55 range.

Tyler Bozak (TOR) C - Owned in 5% of Yahoo leagues

Bozak has had an inconsistent start to the 2016-17 campaign, but his game appears to be rounding into form. The Leafs center is building great chemistry with rookie Mitch Marner and James van Riemsdyk. The trio has starred in Toronto’s last two games and Bozak has generated four points over that span. He has nine points in 12 contests and he has won 61.1 percent of his 118 faceoffs.

Patrick Maroon (EDM) - LW - Owned in 5% of Yahoo leagues

Maroon was a productive player for the Oilers last season. He had eight goals and 14 points in 16 matches after he was acquired from Anaheim. Maroon got to play with Connor McDavid in 2015-16, but Milan Lucic took his spot at the beginning of this season. However, Maroon has been back with McDavid recently and he responded with a two-point effort against the Islanders. It’s a situation worth monitoring because McDavid’s linemates gain tremendous fantasy value.

Brady Skjei (NYR) - D - Owned in 2% of Yahoo leagues

Skjei has collected five assists over a four-game point streak. He has contributed two power-play points over that time from the second unit. Skjei has been averaging a shot per game this season and he has picked up seven points in 12 outings. The 22-year-old is gaining confidence and he has the potential to add some offense from the back end behind Ryan McDonagh on the Rangers.
