Wired: Nichushkin trending up

Updated On: October 4, 2018, 4:04 pm ET

Devan Dubnyk suffered a lower-body injury that forced him to leave Saturday's game against Colorado. Coach Mike Yeo doesn't think the ailment is serious and Dubnyk wasn't expected to travel to Denver for Monday's rematch versus the Avalanche anyway because of the upcoming birth of his child. The Wild don't play again until Friday at Arizona. This situation should be monitored because it could create a good opportunity for Minnesota backup Darcy Kuemper.

Some other goaltenders will be mentioned this week, but first a reminder that Winnipeg's Connor Hellebuyck is available in 79% of Yahoo leagues. He has three wins in three games, while stopping 83 of 86 shots.

Valeri Nichushkin (DAL) - RW - Owned in 14% of Yahoo leagues

Nichushkin had a rough start to the season, with one assist and no goals in his opening nine games. His struggles landed him in the press box for a couple of games as a healthy scratch, but coach Lindy Ruff has been pleased with the winger's improvement. Nichushkin has been playing with Tyler Seguin and Jamie Benn, which is encouraging for fantasy owners. Still, he may have to fend off Patrick Sharp to get a regular spot on that combination. Nichushkin has one goal and three assists in his last four contests and appears to be trending upward.

Mathieu Perreault (WPG) - C, LW - Owned in 20% of Yahoo leagues

Perreault's four-game point streak came to an end on Saturday against Washington. He has generated two goals and seven assists in his last nine outings. The Jets' second line, which features Perreault, Mark Scheifele and Drew Stafford, has been on a roll lately. Perreault ranks third on the team in scoring with 19 points in 27 games and he's tied for second on the club with seven power-play points. He has scored all three of his goals on the man advantage so far this year, where he skates on the top unit.

Brandon Pirri (FLA) - C, LW, RW - Owned in 12% of Yahoo leagues

Pirri had 22 goals in 49 games last season, so expectations were higher going into the 2015-16 season. He hasn't lived up to them yet, but skating on a line with Aleksander Barkov and Jaromir Jagr is providing him with a great chance. Pirri ran hot and cold last season so a wait-and-approach is recommended, but I would have him on my watch list. He has two goals and two assists in his last seven outings, while piling up 23 shots.

Sam Reinhart (BUF) - C - Owned in 7% of Yahoo leagues

Reinhart hasn't generated the same buzz that fellow rookies Artemi Panarin, Dylan Larkin or Connor McDavid have, but he has been quietly productive in Buffalo this season. The second overall pick in the 2014 draft has netted seven goals, including three in the past three games, and 10 points in 26 contests. Reinhart has been playing on the top line alongside Ryan O'Reilly and Evander Kane.

Leo Komarov (TOR) - C, LW - Owned in 21% of Yahoo leagues

Komarov has been a surprising success for the Maple Leafs this season. He already has a personal best 10 goals and he has collected 16 points in 27 games. His 19.2 shooting percentage is sure to drop, but Komarov has been a versatile player for coach Mike Babcock. He plays in all situations and skates on the Leafs' top line with Nazem Kadri and James van Riemsdyk. Komarov has also maintained his physical edge and he sits second in the league with 126 hits this season.

Ryan Strome (NYI) - C, RW - Owned in 19% of Yahoo leagues

Strome has been back in the NHL for six games since returning from his trip to the minors and he has produced two goals and three assists. He hasn't been skating with John Tavares, which would obviously provide a significant boost to his fantasy value, but he has been successful alongside Mikhail Grabovski and Nikolay Kulemin. Strome has seen power-play time alongside Tavares, but he mostly works on the second combination.

Matt Dumba (MIN) - D - Owned in 10% of Yahoo leagues

Dumba has been called out by his coach, who wants him to return to the player he was at the end of the 2014-15 season. He appears to be turning the corner with goals in each of his past two games. Dumba has scored the game winner in both of those contests, which should get him back some goodwill. Dumba has plenty of potential thanks in large part to his booming shot and he's worth keeping an eye on now.

Thomas Greiss (NYI) - G - Owned in 24% of Yahoo leagues

Greiss has been sharing starts with Jaroslav Halak and he has played very well. He owns an 8-3-2 record to go with a .928 save percentage and a 2.18 goals-against average. The 29-year-old netminder has wins against St. Louis, Colorado and Tampa Bay in his last three appearances. Coach Jack Capuano trusts both of his goalies, which has created a timeshare situation in the crease. If you own Halak then Greiss makes a great handcuff, but if you are simply looking for a depth option in the crease then Greiss makes for a good option as well.

Anders Nilsson (EDM) - G - Owned in 17% of Yahoo leagues

Nilsson won the backup goalie job at training camp and now he has taken over the number one gig from Cam Talbot, who has struggled in his first season with Edmonton. Nilsson has a 7-7-1 record along with an impressive .921 save percentage and a 2.52 goals-against average. He has faced 40 or more shots in his last three victories, which includes wins this week over Dallas and Boston. He is an option for fantasy GMs who are desperate for goaltending, but playing for the Oilers carries plenty of risk. The good news is that he has allowed just two goals or less in six of his last seven appearances and he has won four of those matches.

Chad Johnson (BUF) - G - Owned in 15% of Yahoo leagues

Johnson has been splitting time with Linus Ullmark since Robin Lehner suffered a high-ankle sprain in the first game of the season. Ullmark has had his ups and downs, which is to be expected from a 22-year-old goalie, but Johnson has been fairly steady. He has posted a 7-7-1 record with a .912 save percentage and a 2.35 GAA. Johnson has won his last three appearances and he allowed just four goals during that time. He also has some risk associated with his game, but he can help out in a depth role.
