Wrapup: Charlotte

The Charlotte Motor Speedway in Concord, NC hosted three races this past week. The NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour crowned Andy Seuss its 2015 Champion (his second consecutive title) after Thursday night’s season finale on the CMS front stretch quarter-mile oval. On Friday night the XFINITY Series held its event on the 1.5-mile oval. The Sprint Cup Series’ first race of the Contender Round (rain-delayed from Saturday night) closed out the weekend on Sunday afternoon. The Camping World Truck Series will return to action on Saturday, October 24 at Talladega Superspeedway.

NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS)
Time Trials:
Matt Kenseth (No. 20 Dollar General Toyota Camry) won the Coors Light Pole Award for the Bank of America 500 with a lap of 27.759 seconds, 194.532 mph. This is his 17th pole in 574 NSCS races. It is his fourth pole and 16th top-10 start in 2015 and his second pole in 33 races at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Kenseth led 72 laps but was involved in several incidents (accidents, mechanical problems and pit road penalties) and was credited with a 42nd place DNF in the 334-lap race. This resulted in his slip from the top of the Chase standings to 12th place.
Did Not Qualify: No. 32 Josh Wise and No. 62 Timmy Hill.
Winner: Joey Logano (No. 22 Shell Pennzoil Ford Fusion) won the Bank of America 500, his 12th victory in 249 NSCS races. With the victory, Logano clinches a spot in the Eliminator Round. This is his fourth victory and 24th top-10 finish in 2015 and his first victory and eighth top-10 finish in 14 races at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

NASCAR XFINITY Series (NXS)
Time Trials:
Sprint Cup driver Austin Dillon (No. 3 Chevrolet SS) won the Coors Light Pole Award for the Drive for the Cure 300 with a lap of 29.424 seconds, 183.524 mph in the No. 33 Rheem Chevrolet Camaro. This is his 16th pole in 94 NXS races. It is his sixth pole and 15th top-10 NXS start in 2015 and his third pole in six NXS races at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Did Not Qualify: None, only 40 teams entered for 40 spots.
Winner: Austin Dillon won the Drive for the Cure 300, his sixth victory in 94 NASCAR XFINITY Series (NXS) races. He led 61 laps of the 200-lap event. This is his fourth victory and 14th top-10 NXS finish in 2015. It is his second victory and fourth top-10 finish in six NXS races at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Dillon completed the season sweep at Charlotte with the win. It's the seventh sweep of Charlotte in NXS history.
