Wrapup: Talladega

The Talladega Superspeedway hosted two races for NASCAR’s top series this past week. On Saturday, the XFINITY Series ran its Winn Dixie 300. The Sprint Cup featured the GEICO 500 at the 2.66-mile tri-oval Alabama track on Sunday night. The Camping World Truck Series will return to action on May 8 with the Toyota Tundra 250 at Kansas Speedway (Kansas City, KS). Latest results for the ARCA Racing Series and the NASCAR Home Tracks are also shown below.

NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS)
Time Trials:
Jeff Gordon won the Coors Light Pole Award for the GEICO 500 with a lap of 49.160 seconds, 194.793 mph. This is the No. 24 Drive To End Hunger Chevrolet SS driver's 80th pole in 771 NSCS races. This is his third pole and sixth top-10 start in 2015 and his fourth pole in 45 races at Talladega. Gordon led 47 laps in the 188 lap race. He was caught up in the last lap multi-car wreck but managed to cross the finish line in 31st place.
Did Not Qualify: No. 95 Michael McDowell and No. 26 Jeb Burton.
Winner: Dale Earnhardt Jr. won the GEICO 500, his 24th victory in 551 NSCS races. This is the No. 88 Nationwide Chevrolet SS driver's first victory and sixth top-10 finish in 2015. It is his sixth victory and 15th top-10 finish in 31 races at Talladega. Earnhardt ties Jeff Gordon for the most wins at Talladega among active drivers with six each.

NASCAR XFINITY Series (NXS)
Time Trials: 
Sprint Cup regular Austin Dillon won the Coors Light Pole Award for the Winn Dixie 300 with a lap of 53.041 seconds, 180.540 mph. This is his 13th pole in 86 NXS races. This is his third pole and seventh top-10 NXS start in 2015 and his first pole in three NXS races at Talladega. Dillon's No. 33 Rheem Chevrolet Camaro was passed on the first lap. He did not lead any laps in the race and finished in third place.
Did Not Qualify: No. Chris Cockrum, No. 74 Mike Harmon, No. 85 Bobby Gerhart, No. 70 Derrike Cope and No. 15 Carlos Contreras.
Winner: Sprint Cup regular Joey Logano won the Winn Dixie 300, his 24th victory in 140 NXS races. This is his third NXS victory and fifth top-10 finish in 2015. It is his second victory and sixth top-10 finish in six NXS races at Talladega. Logano, who started the No. 22 Discount Tire Ford Mustang 16th in the lineup, led 40 laps of the 113 lap event.
