Wrapup: Talladega

Alabama’s Talladega Superspeedway was the venue for two NASCAR top series events this past weekend. On Saturday, the XFINITY Series ran its 116-lap Sparks Energy 300 at the 2.66-mile tri-oval. The Sprint Cup featured the GEICO 500 on Sunday afternoon. The Camping World Truck Series returns to action next weekend (May 6) with the Toyota Tundra 250 at Kansas Speedway. The results and upcoming scheduled events for the ARCA Racing Series and the NASCAR Home Tracks are also shown below.

NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS)
Time Trials:
Chase Elliott (#24 NAPA Auto Parts Chevrolet SS) won the Coors Light 21 means 21 Pole Award for the GEICO 500 with a lap 192.661 mph. This is his second pole in 15 NSCS races. It is his second pole and fifth top-10 start in 2016. Austin Dillon (second) posted his fifth top-10 start of 2016 and his second in six races at Talladega. Dale Earnhardt Jr. (third) posted his 15th top-10 start at Talladega. It is his second in ten races this season. Chase Elliott led 27 laps and finished the 188-lap race in fifth place.
Did Not Qualify: #30 Josh Wise.
Winner: Brad Keselowski (#2 Miller Lite Ford Fusion) won the GEICO 500, his 19th victory in 243 NSCS races. This is his second victory and fifth top-10 finish in 2016. It is his fourth victory and ninth top-10 finish in 15 races at Talladega. Kyle Busch (second) posted his sixth top-10 finish in 22 races at Talladega. Austin Dillon (third) posted his first top-10 finish in six races at Talladega.

Time Trials:
Camping World Truck Series driver Matt Tifft won the Coors Light 21 means 21 Pole Award for the Sparks Energy 300 at Talladega with a lap of 181.168 mph in the #18 NOS Energy Drink Toyota Camry. This is his first pole in six NXS races and second top-10 start in 2016. Daniel Suarez (second) posted his ninth top-10 start of 2016 and his second in two races at Talladega. Austin Dillon (third) posted his fourth top-10 NXS start at Talladega. Erik Jones (fourth) was the fastest qualifying rookie. Matt Tifft led 21 laps and finished the 116-lap race in eighth place.
Did Not Qualify: #93 Josh Reaume; #70 Derrike Cope and #74 Mike Harmon.
Winner: Elliott Sadler (#1 OneMain Chevrolet Camaro) won the Sparks Energy 300, his 11th victory in 305 NXS races. This is his first victory and eighth top-10 finish in 2016. It is his second victory and fifth top-10 finish in eight races at Talladega. Justin Allgaier (second) posted his fourth top-10 finish in six races at Talladega. It is his seventh top-10 finish in 2016. Brennan Poole (third) posted his first top-10 finish in two races at Talladega.
