What a crazy Week 2 it was in the NFL. I can’t recall another week this early in the season where so many big name players went down with injuries. If you had a decent amount of exposure to guys like A.J. Green, Robert Griffin III, DeSean Jackson, Knowshon Moreno or Jamaal Charles, among others, it likely wasn’t a very good week for you in the daily fantasy world. The good news is that season-long folks are stuck with these guys while the daily gamers can move on and wipe the slate clean for Week 3.
Despite the rash of injuries, gamers who were able to avoid the injury bug or take a speculative cheap play made out pretty well. As a matter of fact, one of our experts at RotoGrinders was able to put everyone’s FanDuel salary into a spreadsheet to spit out an “optimal” lineup for the week. Take a look at this:
|Kirk Cousins, QB||$5,000||17.9|
|Knile Davis, RB||$4,500||22.5|
|Darren Sproles, RB||$6,000||27.3|
|Jordy Nelson, WR||$7,900||31.4|
|Sammy Watkins, WR||$5,900||21.7|
|James Jones, WR||$5,000||17.7|
|Antonio Gates, TE||$5,600||31.1|
|Randy Bullock, K||$4,500||13|
There are several things to note here. First off, the only highly-owned player in this bunch was Jordy Nelson (roughly 15-20% owned). Kirk Cousins was an injury replacement after Griffin got hurt. Knile Davis was an injury replacement after Charles got hurt. Darren Sproles was an afterthought for most gamers with LeSean McCoy leading the backfield in Philadelphia. Sammy Watkins was banged up and hadn’t shown much yet this season. James Jones was the No. 3 wideout in Week 1. Antonio Gates was banged up and facing the Seahawks.
Editor’s Note: Rotoworld’s partner FanDuel is hosting a $350,000 Fantasy Football Contest for Week 3’s games. It’s only $10 to join and first prize is $30,000. Starts Sunday, September 21th at 1pm ET. Here’s the link.
These things go to show you just how wacky Week 2 was in the NFL. Unpredictability reigned supreme this week, and it showed in the winning scores. It took a much lower score to win on FanDuel this week than it did last week. If this week didn’t work out for you, don’t be discouraged. Things will normalize as we move on deeper into the season.
As for my Week 2 performance, it was a mixed bag but I came out fairly well with my head-to-head and double-up squads. Below is a screenshot of my top team of the week, which was good enough to sweep all the contests it was entered in. Unfortunately, I didn’t enter it into any tournament games!
This team was buoyed by great performances from Aaron Rodgers, DeMarco Murray and Jimmy Graham, and that’s really all it took to win this week. With so many land mines out there thanks to injuries and even some of the players on this very team (Shane Vereen, Justin Hunter, and Golden Tate), a few really good performances were enough to push this squad to the top of the leaderboard. Hopefully Week 3 will be a little bit more predictable in this crazy world of the NFL. Good luck everyone!
