Power Play Report

While the Washington Capitals, Toronto Maple Leafs and Winnipeg Jets have the best power plays in the NHL as all three teams are over 30 percent in the success ratings, the worst power play belongs to the Anaheim Ducks.


While the Ducks have scored five times in 30 opportunities, and four other teams have scored less, Anaheim has given up three shorthanded goals, giving them a plus-two rating on 30 chances. The Arizona Coyotes have scored only three times in 29 opportunities but have yet to give up a shorthanded goal this season.


For the record, Vancouver has also given up three shorthanded goals but have scored six on the power play.




Cam Fowler: Zero points in 31:17 minutes of power play time.

Rickard Rakell: Three points in 30:28.

Adam Henrique: Two points in 27:19 of power play time.

Sam Steel: Two points in 25:09.

Ryan Getzlaf: One point in 18:31.

Hampus Lindholm: Two points in 17;51.


The Ducks were 0-8 on the man-advantage over the last week. They’re 5-30 on the power play this season.




Oliver Ekman-Larsson: Zero points in 34:23 of power play time.

Clayton Keller: One point in 33:32.

Derek Stepan: Zero points in 30:18.

Dylan Strome: One point in 23:37 of power play time.

Vinnie Hinostroza: Two points in 23:34.

Christian Fischer: One point in 22:22.


The Coyotes were 1-10 this week and are 3-29 on the year. Strome scored the lone goal with Jordan Oesterle and Vinnie Hinostroza drawing the assists for the second week in a row.




Matthew Grzelcyk: Three points in 33:36 of power play time.

David Pastrnak: Five points in 32:57.

Patrice Bergeron: Six points in 31:31.

Brad Marchand: Four points in 29:03.

David Krejci: Two points in 24:15.

Ryan Donato: One point in 21:57.


The Bruins were 4-10 and are 9-32 in 2018-19. Krejci and Bergeron each had a goal and an assist while Jake DeBrusk and Zdeno Chara also scored. Pastrnak had a pair of assists with Grzelcyk and Steven Kampfer each picking up an assist.




Jack Eichel: Three points in 52:40 of power play time.

Sam Reinhart: Four points in 45:07.

Rasmus Ristolainen: Three points in 43:19.

Kyle Okposo: Four points in 40:20.

Conor Sheary: Three points in 38:53.

Jeff Skinner: Three points in 35:43


The Sabres went 3-9 on the power play this week. Jason Pominville and Casey Mittelstadt each had a goal and an assist with Okposo also scoring. Skinner had assists on all three goals with rookie Rasmus Dahlin chipping in with one helper. They’re now up to 9-43 on the man-advantage this season.




Johnny Gaudreau: Six points in 50:15 of power play time.

Sean Monahan: Three points in 49:30.

Mark Giordano: Two points in 47:49.

Elias Lindholm: Four points in 47:21.

Matthew Tkachuk: Five points in 42:58.

James Neal: Zero points in 29:00.


The Flames were 1-12 on the power play this week. Giordano and Gaudreau set up Lindholm for the only power play goal of the week. They’re now 7-45 on the power play this season.




Justin Faulk: Two points in 38:28 of power play time.

Sebastian Aho: Three points in 35:34.

Justin Williams: One point in 32:32.

Teuvo Teravainen: Two points in 31:17.

Jordan Staal: Zero points in 30:39.

Micheal Ferland: Two points in 29:24.


The Hurricanes are 4-38 this season after going 2-8 this week. Faulk and Ferland were the goal scorers with Aho, Justin Williams and Valentin Zykov drawing the assists.




Patrick Kane: Four points in 42:55 of power play time.

Jonathan Toews: Zero points in 40:08.

Alex DeBrincat: Two points in 39:51.

Nick Schmaltz: One point in 36:15.

Duncan Keith: One point in 34:16.

Erik Gustafsson: Zero points in 28:15


The Blackhawks were 2-14 on the power play in the last week and are 5-41 this season. Brandon Saad and Brent Seabrook scored with Dominik Kahun, DeBrincat, Keith and Kane drawing assists.




Nathan MacKinnon: Four points in 56:57 of power play time.

Mikko Rantanen: Four points in 56:41.

Tyson Barrie: Five points in 55:58

Gabriel Landeskog: Four points in 55:14.

Tyson Jost: Two points in 42:12.

Samuel Girard: Two points in 25:55.


The Avalanche went 3-15 on the man-advantage over the last week. Rantanen scored twice with Carl Soderberg also finding the back of the net. Barrie and MacKinnon each had two assists with Landeskog and Matt Calvert each picking up one helper. The Avs are now 11-46 on the power play in 2018-19.




Zach Werenski: Four points in 42:05 of power play time.

Artemi Panarin: Three points in 41:31.

Nick Foligno: One point in 40:43.

Cam Atkinson: Three points in 36:29.

Pierre-Luc Dubois: Two points in 32:30.

Anthony Duclair: Two points in 30:56. 


The Blue Jackets were 2-10 on the man-advantage last week and are 6-39 on the power play this season. Boone Jenner and Duclair scored with Werenski setting up both goals. Alexander Wennberg and Ryan Murray also had assists.




Tyler Seguin: Five points in 32:10 of power play time.

John Klingberg: Five points in 30:47.

Jason Spezza: Three points in 28:45.

Jamie Benn: Four points in 28:06.

Alexander Radulov: Five points in 23:18.

Miro Heiskanen: Zero points in 9:23. 


The Stars managed to go 1-7 this week with the man-advantage. Klingberg and Seguin set up Tyler Pitlick for the goal. Dallas is 8-28 on the power play this season.




Andreas Athanasiou: Three points in 28:52 of power play time.

Frans Nielsen: Three points in 27:36.

Thomas Vanek: Two points in 27:12.

Dennis Cholowski: Five points in 24:37.

Dylan Larkin: Two points in 23:49.

Gustav Nyquist: Three points in 23:29.


The Red Wings went 1-10 on the man-advantage over the last week. Athanasiou scored the lone goal with Cholowski and Nielsen picking up the assists. The Wings are 8-35 on the man-advantage this season.




Connor McDavid: Eight points in 44:32 of power play time.

Oscar Klefbom: Two points in 42:20.

Milan Lucic: Three points in 41:31.

Ryan Nugent-Hopkins: Five points in 41:21.

Leon Draisaitl: Six points in 40:10.

 Ryan Strome: Zero points in 13:47.


The Oilers went 4-18 on the man-advantage this week. Draisaitl scored twice while McDavid had a goals and an assist. Evan Bouchard also scored with Lucic drawing a couple of assists. Kailer Yamamoto, Nugent-Hopkins, Klefbom and Tobias Rieder also had assists. Edmonton is 9-36 on the power play this season.




Vincent Trocheck: Three points in 45:06 of power play time.

Aleksander Barkov: Two points in 44:43.

Keith Yandle: Two points in 42:07.

Evgenii Dadonov: Three points in 41:26.

Mike Hoffman: Three points in 38:44.

Jonathan Huberdeau: Two points in 33:55.


The Panthers scored three times for the second week in a row, this time on 13 chances and are now 6-40. Hoffman, Trocheck and Frank Vatrano scored with Huberdeau, Barkov, Aaron Ekblad, Dadonov, Nick Bjugstad and Yandle each getting one assist to complete the scoring.




Drew Doughty: Five points in 40:06 of power play time.

Ilya Kovalchuk: Three points in 38:50.

Anze Kopitar: One point in 35:29.

Jeff Carter: Two points in 34:35.

Tyler Toffoli: One point in 25:59.

Dion Phaneuf: Zero points in 21:48.


The Kings went 2-10 on the power play this week and are now 5-38 on the power play in the season. They scored both against the Rangers on Sunday with Kovalchuk scoring once and adding an assist while Dustin Brown in his first game of the season, also found the back of the net. Doughty had two assists while Kopitar drew his first assist of the season in Game 11.




Ryan Suter: One point in 27:16 of power play time.

Eric Staal:: One point in 25:55.

Mikael Granlund: Two points in 24:56.

Matt Dumba: Two points in 24:50.

Zach Parise: One point in 24:30.

Mikko Koivu: One point in 23:36.


The Wild went 1-9 on the power play over the last week. Staal scored with Granlund and Jason Zucker picking up the assists. Minnesota is 4-31 on the power play this season.




Jeff Petry: Four points in 45:41 of power play time.

Jonathan Drouin: Five points in 43:37.

Tomas Tatar: Two points in 41:05.

Brendan Gallagher: One point in 40:09.

Max Domi: Five points in 34:52.

Joel Armia: Zero points in 25:35.


The Canadiens went 2-10 last week and are 7-39 on the man-advantage this season.  Petry and Gallagher scored with Domi assisting on both. Drouin finished the scoring with an assist.




Ryan Johansen: Four points in 41:05 of power play time.

Filip Forsberg: Three points in 40:56.

Viktor Arvidsson: Zero points in 40:18.

P.K. Subban: Four points in 39:03.

Craig Smith: One point in 35:39.

Roman Josi: One point in 34:40.


The Predators were 3-14 on the man-advantage, and are 6-41 this season. Forsberg had all three goals with Subban Johansen assisting on all three.




Nico Hischier: Three points in 35:29 of power play time.

Taylor Hall: Seven points in 34:47.

Kyle Palmieri: Six points in 33:56.

Will Butcher: Four points in 32:42.

Sami Vatanen: One point in 22:10.

Travis Zajac: One point in 20:23.


The Devils went 1-7 on the man-advantage this week. Hischier scored with Hall and Palmieri getting the assists. They are now 9-35 on the power play.




Mathew Barzal: Six points in 37:24 of power play time.

Josh Bailey: Six points in 35:19.

Nick Leddy: One point in 34:52.

Jordan Eberle: Two points in 33:13.

Anders Lee: Five points in 33:13.

Brock Nelson: Zero points in 16:50.


The Islanders went 3-10 on the power play last week, as Anders Lee had two goals and one assist with Jordan Eberle scoring once. Bailey had two assists as did Barzal with Leddy picking up his first point of the season. New York is now 7-30 on the power play this season.




Mika Zibanejad: Two points in 37:42 of power play time.

Mats Zuccarello: Three points in 35:11.

Chris Kreider: Two points in 34:37.

Kevin Shattenkirk: One point in 26:57.

Pavel Buchnevich: One point in 22:30.

 Kevin Hayes: Zero points in 20:58.


The Rangers were 2-11 this week and are now 7-35 this season. The Z boys, Zibanejad and Zuccarello scored with Zibanejad drawing an assist as well.  Neal Pionk assisted on both giving him five assists on the last six power play goals. Kreider also drew an assist.




Thomas Chabot: Three points in 32:01 of power play time.

Matt Duchene: Two points in 28:55.

Mark Stone: Four points in 28:06.

Bobby Ryan: Three points in 26:16.

Colin White: One point in 22:36.

Chris Tierney: Four points in 22:15.


The Senators went 2-9 on the man-advantage over the last week. Ryan and Chabot each had a goal and an assist while Stone set up both goals. The Sens are 8-31 overall.




Shayne Gostisbehere: Three points in 50:33 of power play time.

Claude Giroux: Five points in 48:42.

Jakub Voracek: Four points in 46:04.

Sean Couturier: Zero points in 45:44.

Wayne Simmonds: Three points in 44:02.

Travis Konecny: One point in 23:43.


The Flyers went 0-9 last week. They are 6-40 on the power play this season.




Kris Letang: Three points in 27:23 of power play time.

Phil Kessel: Three points in 27:12.

Sidney Crosby: Four points in 26:41.

Evgeni Malkin: Four points in 26:19.

Patric Hornqvist: One point in 24:14.

Jake Guentzel: One point in 12:53.


The Penguins scored three times on nine chances this week and are 7-24. Crosby had a goal and an assist while Jack Johnson and Hornqvist also found the back of the net. Malkin, Kessel, Letang, Derick Brassard and Olli Maatta also drew assists.  




Erik Karlsson: Four points in 47:36 of power play time.

Brent Burns: Six points in 41:27.

Joe Pavelski: One point in 41:27.

Logan Couture: Two points in 41:04.

Tomas Hertl: Two points in 38:05.

Kevin Labanc: Two points in 28:06.


The Sharks went 4-9 on the man-advantage over the last week. Meier scored twice with Burns scoring once and adding an assist. Hertl also scored while Karlsson had two helpers. Evander Kane, Labanc, Couture and Joonas Donskoi added assists. The Sharks are now 9-39 on the power play this season.




Vladimir Tarasenko: Four points in 43:10 of power play time.

Ryan O'Reilly: Six points in 41:32.

Patrick Maroon: Five points in 39:25.

Tyler Bozak: One point in 36:49

Alex Pietrangelo: One point in 34:43.

Vince Dunn: Three points in 33:01.


The Blues scored four goals this week on the power play. Tarasenko scored twice with Dunn picking up a goal and an assist and Alexander Steen also finding the back of the net. O’Reilly had three assists, Maroon had two and Schenn and Pietrangelo had one apiece. The Blues are now 13-44 overall this season.




Nikita Kucherov: Two points in 42:33 of power play time.

J.T. Miller: Five points in 41:34.

Steven Stamkos: Two points in 40:54.

Alex Killorn: Two points in 34:42.

Victor Hedman: One point in 30:38.

Brayden Point: Three points in 28:06


The Lightning were 3-10 for the week with the man-advantage and are 10-38 so far in 2018-19. Miller, Adam Erne and Kucherov scored with Yanni Gourde Tyler Johnson, Killorn, Mikhail Sergachev and Stamkos drawing assists.




John Tavares: Three points in 27:35 of power play time.

Mitch Marner: Four points in 27:17.

Nazem Kadri: Three points in 26:29.

Morgan Rielly: Six points in 25:33.

Auston Matthews: Five points in 25:08.

Jake Gardiner: One point in 19:04.


The Leafs went 0-4 this week with the man advantage. They’re 9-28 on the season.




Bo Horvat: Four points in 36:54 of power play time.

Brock Boeser: Three points in 32:32.

Sven Baertschi: Four points in 29:27.

Alexander Edler: Three points in 27:15.

Nikolay Goldobin: Zero points in 25:48.

Elias Pettersson: Four points in 24:24.


The Canucks went 1-11 on the man-advantage over the last week. Baertschi scored with Boeser and Horvat drawing the assists. Vancouver is 6-33 on the power play this season.




William Karlsson: Three points in 39:12 of power play time.

Jonathan Marchessault: Two points in 39:02.

Shea Theodore: Zero points in 38:41.

Reilly Smith: One point in 38:23.

Max Pacioretty: Zero points in 28:09.

Colin Miller: One point in 28:06.


The Golden Knights finally scored as they went 2-13 on the power play. Karlsson and Ryan Reaves scored with Alex Tuch, Miller and Erik Haula drawing assists. The Golden Knights are 4-37 this season.




Alex Ovechkin: Eight points in 44:17 of power play time.

John Carlson: Eight points in 41:59.

Nicklas Backstrom: Eight points in 37:27.

Evgeny Kuznetsov: Eight points in 37:26.

T.J. Oshie: Two points in 35:53.

Brent Connolly: One point in 12:59.


The Capitals scored three goals on nine attempts this week and are 13-35 this season. Ovechkin scored once and added a pair of assists while Kuznetsov had one of each. Oshie also scored while Carlson had two assists and Backstrom had one.




Patrik Laine: Four points in 41:55 of power play time.

Mark Scheifele: Six points in 41:26.

Kyle Connor: Five points in 40:42.

Blake Wheeler: Seven points in 39:52.

Dustin Byfuglien: Four points in 31:43.

Josh Morrissey: Three points in 20:14.


The Jets scored four goals with the man-advantage as they had another great week. Scheifele and Connor each had a pair of goals with an assist. Wheeler had three assists and Byfuglien had one. The Jets are 11-35 this season.
