Waiver Wired: Add Eakin

Last week, Alec Tuch was featured on Waiver Wired and he went from being owned in 29% of Yahoo leagues to 46%. Ryan Dzingel, who continues to produce for the Senators, is still available in 79% of Yahoo leagues and Brandon Saad only has a 17% ownership despite his strong play.

Curtis McElhinney (owned in 41% of Yahoo leagues) should be picked up by anyone seeking help in the crease if he is still available. His superb play of late resulted in the Hurricanes demoting Scott Darling to the minors. McElhinney has surprisingly taken over as the top netminder on Carolina.

Now, let’s get into this week’s suggestions:

Dustin Brown (LAK) - RW - Owned in 38% of Yahoo leagues

Time could be running out to claim Brown, who has 13 points in 16 games this season. His three-game point streak (five goals, one assist) came to an end on Friday, but he has been very good since returning from a broken finger he sustained in the preseason. Brown plays alongside Anze Kopitar, who has heated up since mid-November, on the top line. He also logs big minutes on the power play and penalty kill, while supplying plenty of hits. He has been credited with 43 body checks already this campaign.

Mikael Backlund (CGY) - C - Owned in 17% of Yahoo leagues

Backlund has produced two goals and three assists during a three-game point streak. He was ice cold prior to that with one assist in eight matches. Backlund generated 53 points in 81 games in 2016-17 and he is on a 50-point pace again this campaign. He may not be a long-term solution, but he is worthy of a flier because of his recent hot streak and Calgary’s busy upcoming schedule.

Adam Henrique (ANA) - C - Owned in 15% of Yahoo leagues

Henrique has notched two goals and five assists in the last eight games. He has been held off the scoresheet just once over that stretch and currently has a four-game point streak. Henrique has seen time with a variety of linemates in the past few games, but he has played mostly with Nick Ritchie and Ondrej Kase over the last few matches.

Nick Schmaltz (ARI) - C, LW - Owned in 11% of Yahoo leagues

Schmaltz had a solid sophomore season in 2017-18 with 21 goals and 52 points in 78 games, but he was struggling this year with only two goals and 11 points through 23 appearances. The Blackhawks made the decision to ship him to Arizona in exchange for Dylan Strome and Brendan Perlini. The change of scenery appears to be doing him some good, as he already has one goal and three assists in three outings as a member of the Coyotes. Schmaltz has been playing alongside Clayton Keller and Alex Galchenyuk at even strength as well as on the top power-play unit.

T.J. Brodie (CGY) - D - Owned in 11% of Yahoo leagues

Brodie has produced two goals and five helpers in the past eight games. He also has one goal and three assists during a three-game point streak. Brodie has been a solid defense partner for Mark Giordano on the top pairing. He is up to 11 points with a plus-18 rating in 26 matches this campaign. Brodie topped 40 points in 2014-15 and 2015-16. He may not get back to that range this year, but he is worthy of being on more rosters at this time.

Alex Chiasson (EDM) - RW - Owned in 11% of Yahoo leagues

Chiasson has registered five goals and two assists in the last nine games. He has compiled 11 goals and 13 points in 20 matches this season. Chiasson only ranks behind Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl, who have 13 markers apiece, in goals on the Oilers. It was only a matter of time before he got a chance to play on the team’s top line and he has spent the last few games alongside McDavid and Draisaitl. Chiasson logged a career-high 21:25 of ice time on Thursday versus Los Angeles.

Cody Eakin (VGK) - C - Owned in 10% of Yahoo leagues

Eakin has done a great job filling in for injured forward Erik Haula on Vegas’ second line. He has racked up seven goals and six assists in the last 14 contests, while playing between Max Pacioretty and Alex Tuch. He has also seen time on the second power-play unit of the Golden Knights.  Eakin had success during his days with Dallas when he played higher on the depth chart and he is doing that again.

Adin Hill (ARI) - G - Owned in 10% of Yahoo leagues

Hill has been remarkable in four appearances this season. He has posted victories in his last three outings, which includes two starts. Hill pitched a 29-save shutout against Nashville on Thursday and he turned aside 25 shots in a 6-1 win over St. Louis on Saturday. He has allowed one goal on 61 shots for a 0.38 goals-against average and .984 save percentage in four outings. Even though It is a small sample size, Hill’s success could make the Coyotes ride the hot hand for a bit longer. That could result in more time to rest for injured netminders Antti Raanta and Darcy Kuemper.

Eeli Tolvanen (NSH) - RW - Owned in 9% of Yahoo leagues

Tolvanen made an immediate impact in his season debut with the Predators on Saturday with one goal and one assist. He played alongside Craig Smith (owned in 18% of Yahoo leagues) and Calle Jarnkrok (owned in 1% of Yahoo leagues) in the contest. Smith also had one goal and one helper in Nashville’s 5-2 victory versus Chicago. Coach Peter Laviolette had to shake up the lines because of injuries to Filip Forsberg, Viktor Arvidsson and Kyle Turris. Kevin Filia (owned in 24% of Yahoo leagues) played with Ryan Johansen and Ryan Hartman in the win. Fiala is worth adding too after he posted one goal and one assist on Saturday night.

Anthony Beauvillier (NYI) - C, LW - Owned in 6% of Yahoo leagues

Beauvillier has collected eight of his nine points this season in the last eight games. He has been playing alongside Mathew Barzal and Josh Bailey at even strength recently. Beauvillier was a streaky scorer last year, so feels free to take advantage of his hot play while it lasts.
