NBA DFS Bargains: Wednesday

Updated On: December 19, 2018, 2:03 pm ET

Welcome to the NBA DFS Bargains column, where we’ll sort through underrated players on DRAFT while also mining for value in salary cap formats like FanDuel and DraftKings. Please take note that this article was created earlier in the day, so pertinent injury information and breaking news could add or subtract bargain situations. Paying attention to our NBA News & Headlines feed is one way to stay on top of everything.

With that, let’s go ahead and dive into the bargain bin!

Derrick Rose – G - Minnesota (DRAFT Projection: 34.2)

Jeff Teague has been ruled out tonight, subsequently handing over the offensive reigns to Derrick Rose. That’s good news for Rose and his fantasy backers, as he has posted a remarkably efficient 1.19 FP per minute line over his past five games. That rate should continue while considering a boost in usage. The potential for more minutes doesn’t hurt either. I’m boosting Rose’s projection to the 40 FP level.

Pascal Siakam – F - Toronto (DRAFT Projection: 30.8)

Kyle Lowry and Serge Ibaka are out for Toronto. Jonas Valanciunas will continue to miss time moving forward. As a result, Siakam should see as many minutes as he can handle in the Raptors’ frontcourt. Even though the matchup vs Indiana doesn’t look great on paper, Siakam will inherit more offensive responsibilities and playing time to boost his expectation closer to 35+ fantasy points.

Mohamed Bamba – C – Orlando (FD: $3900 / DK: $3700)

Nikola Vucevic will not play tonight, giving Mo Bamba a chance to show out. The rookie out of Texas has been efficient off the bench lately while averaging 23 FPPG and 16 minutes over his past four. He has a clear path to 27-30 minutes this evening, which could result in a strong fantasy outing. Bamba is one of the best value plays of the night while hovering marginally above minimum salary on both sites.

Greg Monroe – C – Toronto (FD: $3800 / DK: $4100)

It’s unfortunate that we can only play one center on FanDuel. In that instance, I’ll side with Bamba over Monroe. However, you can easily stack both of them for solid value on DraftKings. Monroe will step into a substantial role for Toronto tonight, considering that Ibaka and Valanciunas are out. As mentioned earlier with his teammate, Siakam, Monroe should be able to overcome a good matchup by putting up numbers through sheer volume in boosted playing time.

Derrick Rose – PG – Minnesota (FD: $6200 / DK: $6700)

See the write-up of Rose above. He’s looking at more minutes and usage with Jeff Teague sidelined, which is something that can only help his already efficient fantasy prowess.

Nemanja Bjelica – SF – Sacramento (FD: $5800 / DK: $4800)

Bjelica is still too cheap when considering a heightened role due to Marvin Bagley’s continued absence. Don’t be spooked by the five minute and 2.9 fantasy point performance on Monday, as Sacramento fell behind early and decided to clear out their bench. Bjelica should have fresh legs while looking to resume his usual 27-32 minutes. He has excellent fantasy potential through scoring upside and the ability to rack up double-digit rebounds. Taking on an Oklahoma City team that ranks 27th in defensive efficiency vs small forwards could help showcase that.

Fred VanVleet – PG – Toronto (FD: $5200 / DK: $4900)

As mentioned earlier, Kyle Lowry will not play tonight. In two previous games with Lowry sidelined, VanVleet saw 33 and 37 minutes translating to outputs of 26 and 34 fantasy points respectively. It’s safe to assume that he’ll see an increase from his usual 27 minute helping along with more usage sans Lowry. That makes VanVleet a solid value play through all formats despite a tough matchup on paper vs Indiana.

Pascal Siakam – PF – Toronto (FD: $6700 / DK: $5700)

Go ahead and reference Siakam’s write-up in the section above. His $5700 salary on DraftKings blends more favorably into a quality lineup than the rigidity surrounding his $6700 tag on FanDuel. He’s certainly playable on both sites though, as the lack of multi-position eligibility creates less alternatives on FanDuel.

Is this finally the time we’ll see Cheick Diallo (PF) in extended action? Nikola Mirotic and Julius Randle are both doubtful tonight at Milwaukee, so Diallo could see more run in their absence. I’m considering him a tournament bargain on FanDuel with a low $3800 salary.

Was Trevor Ariza’s (SF) first game with the Wizards a fluke? I’m not expecting 52 fantasy points to become his new baseline, but Ariza fits superbly into Washington’s offense. He’ll continue to see heavy minutes with Otto Porter Jr sidelined. He’s certainly on the value radar tonight for $5800 on FanDuel and $4500 on DraftKings.
