Oct. 21-27
Great Options
Pekka Rinne – Nashville Predators
Schedule: Tue vs. ANA, Thu vs. MIN, Sat at TB
The 36-year-old is off to a 4-0-0 start this season and he’s allowed two goals in three of his first four outings. Fantasy owners can expect him to start two games next week. Hopefully one of those games is against the lowly Minnesota Wild.
Marc-Andre Fleury – Vegas Golden Knights
Schedule: Mon at PHI, Tue at CHI, Fri at COL, Sun at ANA
Fleury isn’t the best goalie in the NHL, but he’s a clear-cut starter on a good team. The veteran has suited up in each one of Vegas’ games this season, which makes him valuable in fantasy. Expect him to sit for one of next week’s four games, but he’ll continue to be a strong play anyway.
Carter Hart – Philadelphia Flyers
Schedule: Mon vs. VGK, Thu at CHI, Sat vs. CBJ Sun at NYI
Hart has dropped each of his last two decisions, but he should be in line for a bounce-back week. Monday’s home date against the Golden Knights won’t be easy, but he has good matchups against Chicago, Columbus and the Islanders ahead. He’ll likely start three games.
Good Options
Carter Hutton – Buffalo Sabres
Schedule: Tue vs. SJ, Thu at NYR, Fri at DET
Hutton is off to a terrific start, as he owns a 5-0-0 record with a 1.39 goals-against-average and a .953 save percentage. He got off to a strong start last year before fading badly in the second half of the season, but you can ride him while he’s hot.
Frederik Andersen – Toronto Maple Leafs
Schedule: Mon vs. CBJ, Tue at BOS, Fri vs. SJ, Sat at MTL
The Leafs’ schedule is busy with two back-to-backs next week, but backup goalie Michael Hutchinson has been struggling, which means Andersen could play in three of the four games. The 30-year-old has won back-to-back starts against Detroit and Minnesota and he allowed two goals in each of those games.
Tuukka Rask – Boston Bruins
Schedule: Tue vs. TOR, Sat vs. STL, Sun at NYR
Rask is coming off a shootout loss to Tampa on Thursday, but he still hasn’t dropped a decision in regulation in 2019-20. Expect him to get the two home starts against the Maple Leafs and Blues next week.
John Gibson – Anaheim Ducks
Schedule: Tue at NSH, Thu at DAL, Sat at COL, Sun at VGK
The only reason Gibson isn’t in the great category again is because all four of his team’s games will be played on the road next week. The 26-year-old heads into this weekend with a 1.85 goals-against-average and a .941 save percentage.
Bad Options
Ben Bishop – Dallas Stars
Schedule: Mon vs. OTT, Thu vs. ANA, Sat vs. PIT
Dallas is so bad right now that we still can’t trust them even though they have three home dates on the schedule. They’re off to a 1-7-1 start. It’s not all their goalie’s fault, but they need more from everyone.
Devan Dubnyk – Minnesota Wild
Schedule: Tue vs. EDM, Thu at NSH, Sat vs. LAK
Simply put, the Wild aren’t good. Dubnyk has watched from the bench from two of the last three games and although he’s likely going to regain his starting role, he still won’t be worth using in fantasy.
Jonathan Quick – Los Angeles Kings
Schedule: Tue at WPG, Thu at STL, Sat at MIN
Quick isn’t anywhere close to being the goaltender that led the Kings to two Stanley Cups. He’s watched from the bench for the last two games while Jack Campbell battled on the ice. It’s still early in the season, but it doesn’t look like Quick will be a viable fantasy option this season.
