Chelsea vs. Man City Predictions & Picks

Chelsea (+300) vs Manchester City (-125, Draw +300, 2.5 Over/Under)

Quick Hitter

Manchester City hasn’t skipped a beat in their opening two games since the restart, showing dominant form against poor Burnley earlier this week. City found the net 22 minutes into that match and scored three times in the first half.

Chelsea is reportedly flirting with a 4-3-3 lineup and manager Frank Lampard wants to press and be much more aggressive than in Sunday’s game. Someone’s going to light up the scoreboard early in this one.

Pick: Goal before 25 minutes (-120)

Team/Player Prop

Lampard’s aggressive approach to Thursday, and the fact Chelsea has played Manchester City tough in recent meetings, lends value to the Blues finding the scoreboard first.

Chelsea scored first in the 21st minute in a 2-1 loss to City back in November, drew 0-0 (lost in penalties) in the Carabao Cup final back in February 2019 (was also skunked 6-0 by City that month), and won 2-0 at home in December last season.

Pick: First team to score – Chelsea (+160)

Over/Under Bet

The Over 2.5 goals is juiced for a reason, given Manchester City’s offensive outpouring the past two fixtures.  And while the Citizens will be without leading scorer Sergio Agüero after he left Monday’s game with a knee injury, there is enough firepower to push this past the total.

Chelsea has seen three or more goals scored in nine of their last dozen matches going back to January. This one won’t get out of hand, but these teams should post at least three goals on Thursday.

Pick: Over 2.5 (-150)

Side Bet

Manchester City will be playing their third game in nine days Thursday, and even for a squad stocked with a surplus of talent, that’s a lot to ask after the restart. We will likely start to see the wear and tear of this schedule on the other side of the 45-minute mark, which will keep this game closer than City’s previous two outings.

Chelsea sits fourth in the EPL table and is vying for a Champions League berth, with a five-point buffer between them, Manchester United and Wolves. They won’t want to give up ground, especially at home, so don’t expect City to run away with this.

A 2-1 Manchester City win feels right (+800 is worth a flyer), so get ready to sweat out the second half.

Pick: Manchester City (-125)
