NHL Best Bets: VGK vs. VAN Game 4

Updated On: August 30, 2020, 1:29 pm ET

Vegas Golden Knights vs Vancouver Canucks betting preview

Starting Goalies

Golden Knights: Robin Lehner - playoffs - 7-2, 2.08 GAA, .921 SV%

Canucks: Jacob Markstrom -  playoffs - 8-5, 2.68 GAA, .924 SV%

Lehner has taken over the Knights' No. 1 goaltending gig and has looked very sharp for Vegas since being acquired just weeks before the COVID-19 shutdown. After turning aside all 31 shots he faced on Saturday, Lehner now has shutouts in two of his last three games.

Since Game 4 is on the tail end of a back-to-back, Vegas may consider resting Lehner and starting former first-string goalie and three-time Stanley Cup winner Marc-Andre Fleury. That said, considering a recent tweet from Fleury's agent, the Knights might try to avoid controversy as much as possible and continue riding the hot glove.

Markstrom has arguably been the Canucks most valuable player this season, coming up big time and time again for Vancouver despite a questionable defense in front of him. He allowed three goals on 34 shots on Saturday and limited the Knights to just two goals on 40 shots in Game 2.

Vegas: Tomas Nosek LW (out)
Vancouver: Tyler Myers D (out), Micheal Ferland LW (out), Josh Leivo LW (out)

Betting Trend to Know

The Golden Knights are 21-6 in their last 27 games overall. Find the latest NHL betting trends for Golden Knights vs. Canucks.

Puckline Pick

With how scrappy this young Vancouver squad has been, it's tempting to back them at +180, but Vegas is looking like the best team in the world at the moment. The Knights also have the clear edge when it comes to size, depth and experience, which makes them far better equipped to deal with playing on consecutive nights.

The Canucks are just 9-20 in their last 29 games played on zero days of rest and looked absolutely lifeless in their back-to-back performance in Game 4 against the Blues in their previous series. On the other hand, Vegas is 4-1 in its last five contests without rest.

The Golden Knights are now 10-3 all-time against the Canucks and their last five wins in the head-to-head have all come by multiple goals. Back them on the puckline.

PREDICTION: Puckline Golden Knights -1.5 (+120)

Over/Under Pick

Both these teams have plenty of offensive firepower but with oddsmakers installing the total at 6 for Sunday's game, the Under is worth a hard look. Both Lehner and Markstrom have played very well for their respective teams and as we already pointed out, Vancouver's usually impressive skaters tend to look flat when playing on back-to-back nights.

In addition, Vancouver's power play, which had been one of the best in the league during the regular season, has gone ice-cold lately. The Canucks have converted on just 1-of-11 opportunities with the man advantage in this series.

PREDICTION: Under 6 (-117)

    Player Prop

Golden Knights defenseman Shea Theodore emerged as a star this season, scoring a career-high 46 points in 71 regular-season games. The 25-year-old has been even better since the NHL restart, leading the Knights with 12 points through 11 postseason contests.

The blueliner has now picked up a point in five consecutive games and paces the team in shots while logging over 22 minutes of ice time per game. Back the red-hot Theodore to tally a point in Game 4.

PREDICTION: Shea Theodore Over 0.5 Points (-134)
