Browns spread bettors rewarded for good karma

Updated On: October 26, 2020, 9:19 pm ET

Cody Parkey did it again.

The Browns kicker – who famously cost the Chicago Bears a playoff win against the Eagles with a double doink – ruined many bettors' tickets Sunday by shanking an extra point in Cleveland's win at Cincinnati. Baker Mayfield tossed a beautiful go-ahead touchdown pass to Donovan Peoples-Jones with 11 seconds left to go. Parkey pushed the succeeding kick wide left.

Final score 37-34 Browns. Cleveland was a -3.5 or -4 favorite.

Bettors that laid the points immediately went into a rage across the country. PointsBet Sportsbook decided to take matters into their own hands by refunding any spread bets on the Browns.

PointsBet did this earlier in the season when Stephen Gostkowski missed three field goals and an extra point on Monday Night Football.

"We are all about being bettor friendly," PointsBet communications director Patrick Eichner told NBC Sports. “That was a really tough break for Browns bettors with a deflating missed PAT after a game-winning touchdown. It was big swing for the book on what was a pretty tough NFL Sunday, but it’s only right to back our bettors after that crushing finish. Refunding all bets at -3.5 and -4 is the right thing to do."
