It’s been the quickest of weeks and we’re on the last stretch until the festive period after three games in a 10-day span. Without further delay, here’s the injury news for Gameweek 14.
Crystal Palace v. Liverpool
Crystal Palace won’t have Mamadou Sakho available to face his former team after the defender suffered a calf injury last week. Other than that, Roy Hodgson said he has no new injury concerns other than the long-term cases.
Out: Ferguson, Hennessey, Wickham, Kelly, Sakho
Doubtful:
Liverpool’s injury list continues to grow as Joel Matip missed out on the win over Spurs with a back injury and remains a doubt. ThIago and Diogo Jota are on the path to recovery but look certain to miss out on the weekend once again.
Out: Shaqiri, van Dijk, Gomez, ThIago, Milner, Jota, Tsimikas
Doubtful: Matip
Southampton v. Man City
Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl confirmed the club has no injury concerns.
Out:
Doubtful:
Eric Garcia and Oleksandr Zinchenko look set to miss out once again. The big news for Manchester City is that Sergio Agüero suffered another injury setback in his return from injury and is a doubt for the trip to Saints. Said manager Pep Guardiola: “I don’t know. After the game he could not train. Yesterday no training, today he trained really well, but I don't know how many minutes he can play. It’s important he makes training sessions but after the game he could not. It wasn’t the knee, it was another area.”
Out: Garcia, Zinchenko
Doubtful: Aguero
Everton v. Arsenal
Everton will not have Allan available for the next few weeks after the midfielder suffered a hamstring injury in Wednesday’s win. James Rodriguez will miss out again as he recovers from a calf injury that has ruled him out of the last two games. However, Seamus Coleman has been cleared to return after missing the last month.
Out: Gbamin, Coleman, Digne, Delph, Rodriguez
Doubtful:
Mikel Arteta has become more and more ornery over the last few weeks given Arsenal’s terrible form. His latest injury was simple and quite useless: “We have a few doubts. Obviously we cannot tell you who but we have some doubts for tomorrow, yes.” However, we do know that Gabriel will miss the next three matches due to a red-card suspension while Granit Xhaka still has to sit out two more games.
Out: Martinelli, Partey, Gabriel, Xhaka
Doubtful: Kolasinac, Nelson
Newcastle v. Fulham
Newcastle manager Steve Bruce said there’s a light at the end of the tunnel regarding the club’s injury and COVID-19 absences, but there’s still a ways to go. Federico Fernandez and Isaac Hayden returned from their quarantines this week and more players, albeit unnamed, are likely to follow while Andy Carroll is very near to a return from a calf injury.
Out: Dubravka, Dummett,
Doubtful: Saint-Maximin, Lascelles, Carroll, Manquillo, Schar
Fulham will wait until the last moment to decide on the status of forward Bobby Decordova-Reid after suffering a thigh injury against Brighton. Fulham manager Scott Parker may have no choice but to start Aleksandar Mitrovic despite his recent injury problems that have seen him play only 48 minutes in the club’s last five games.
Out: Tete, Kongolo,
Doubtful: Decordova-Reid
Brighton v. Sheffield United
Brighton keeper Robert Sanchez got the start over Mat Ryan in midweek and looked great, recording a clean sheet and four saves. Expect him to continue in goal. The only doubt for Brighton is Tariq Lamptey, who left the scoreless draw with Fulham due to a knock.
Out: Andone
Doubtful: Izquierdo, Lamptey
Sheffield United won’t have Oli McBurnie available to face Brighton, but David McGoldrick looks set for an encore after scoring two goals (his entire total from last season) against Manchester United in midweek. Meanwhile, Sander Berge looks like a major doubt due to a hamstring injury suffered on Thursday.
Out: O’Connell, Berge, McBurnie
Doubtful: Stevens, Ampadu, Mousset
Spurs v. Leicester
Gareth Bale missed the last two games this week due to illness but is in line to return to face Leicester City this weekend. Erik Lamela and Japhet Tanganga will not be available though. Said manager José Mourinho: “No new injuries. Gareth Bale trained today and yesterday as normal with the team, Erik Lamela finally put a foot outside in one of our training sessions but it’s still a bit far for him.”
Out: Lamela, Tanganga
Doubtful:
Leicester City had a massive defensive crisis this week with their entire starting backline missing out due to injury and suspension in Wednesday’s loss to Everton. However, Jonny Evans returns from a yellow card suspension while the club could even have Timothy Castagne and Daniel Amartey back from injury (they’ve been saying that for a while though).
Out:, Soyuncu, Pereira
Doubtful: Castagne, Amartey,
Manchester United v. Leeds
It seems likely that David De Gea will earn a recall into the starting lineup after Dean Henderson’s iffy performance against his former team in Sheffield United. Edinson Cavani is the only doubt for Manchester United after missing out on the last two matches due to a groin injury.
Out: Shaw, Jones, Bailly,
Doubtful: Rojo, Cavani
Marcelo Bielsa has no new injury concerns, and even if he did it’s unlikely that he’d share them. Pablo Hernandez returned in style to record two assists off the bench in midweek and may be in line for a start.
Out: Forshaw, Llorente, Koch
Doubtful:
West Brom v. Aston Villa
Despite a draw with Manchester City, West Brom relieved Slaven Bilic of his duties and brought in Sam Allardyce in an attempt to save the team from a one-and-done season. In his first game, Allardyce will have to do without the usual crew of injuries along with Kyle Bartley (calf injury) Matheus Pereira, who is serving the final game in a three-match suspension.
Out: Robson-Kanu, Field, Townsend, Pereira (suspension), Bartley
Doubtful:
Ezri Konsa seems to be the biggest question mark for Aston Villa after the defender missed the club’s scoreless draw with Burnley on Thursday due to illness. Meanwhile, Trezeguet will not be available for some time following a hamstring injury. Ross Barkley is closing in on a return while Douglas Luiz and Matty Cash will be back from suspension in time for the weekend.
Out: Wesley, Trezeguet, Davis
Doubtful: Heaton, Barkley, Konsa
Burnley v. Wolves
Burnley mostly seem to shuffle their players between the Out and Doubtful categories, at least that’s how it’s been over the last few weeks. Jack Cork and Johann Berg Gudmundsson seem to be ruled out while the club will continue to wait on Dale Stephens, who will be involved over the holidays but may not be ready to return quite yet.
Out: Cork, Gudmundsson
Doubtful: Stephens
Willy Boly and Leander Dendoncker both left the club’s win over Chelsea with knocks in midweek and will be monitored until the final moments as they remain doubts for the trip to Burnley. However, Wolves will have Joao Moutinho back from suspension.
Out: Jonny, Jimenez
Doubtful: Dendoncker, Boly
Chelsea v. West Ham
There are no new injury concerns for Chelsea as they wait on the status of wingers Hakim Ziyech and Callum Hudson-Odoi, who returned to training today. Said manager Frank Lampard: “It is their first day back with the group today training at a decent level, so I will have to see how they are the next two or three days to see if they make West Ham.”
Out:
Doubtful: Ziyech, Hudson-Odoi
Arhtur Masuaku looks set to miss out on the next few months after undergoing knee surgery. Meanwhile, Fabián Balbuena missed out in midweek due to a knock and will need to be assessed further. The jury is out on when Michail Antonio will return will rumors suggesting it could be another few weeks. Officially, he remains doubtful .
Out: Masuaku
Doubtful: Balbuena, Antonio
