NHL Plays: Wednesday

Updated On: February 24, 2021, 10:39 am ET

NHL Plays will highlight the best and the most underrated daily fantasy options among forwards, defensemen and goaltenders.

Please note, these players were chosen early in the day, so make sure to check NBC Sports EDGE's player news for any lineup changes, injuries and potential changes in the crease for starting goaltenders.

Additionally, it is worth reminding everyone that FanDuel allows you to roster nine players (2C, 2W, 2D, 2UTIL 1G) with a salary cap of $55,000, while DraftKings has a cap of $50,000 for nine players (2C, 3W, 2D, 1G, 1UTIL) and Yahoo has a $200 budget for nine players (2C, 3W, 2D, 2G).

Don’t forget, for everything NHL, check out NBC Sports EDGE's Player News, and follow @NBCSEdgeHK and @CoreAbbott on Twitter.

Wednesday night has seven games on the schedule, including two early starts at 5:00 p.m. ET. The suggestions below are weighted more to the later starts, but there are some players mentioned for the earlier games in the bargain portions.

Forwards:

James van Riemsdyk (Philadelphia) - W - $6,600 (FanDuel), $6,500 (DraftKings), $21 (Yahoo)

van Riemsdyk was held off the scoresheet in his last appearance versus the New York Rangers this past Thursday, but that hasn’t been a common occurrence for him this season. He has compiled eight goals and 21 points in 15 matches. JVR is coming off a three-point performance (one goal, two assists) against Boston on Sunday. He has seven multi-point efforts this season.

Dustin Brown (Los Angeles) - W - $6,100 (FanDuel), $4,800 (DraftKings), $20 (Yahoo)

Brown has supplied eight goals and four assists in 10 outings going into Wednesday night’s action. He is coming off a two-goal showing against St. Louis on Monday, which gives him three markers and one helper in three outings versus the Blues this year. Brown has accounted for 10 goals, 16 points, 35 shots and 33 hits in 17 contests this campaign. He is capable of providing great category coverage and he has very good cap hits on DraftKings and Yahoo.

Matthew Tkachuk (Calgary) - W - $5,600 (FanDuel), $6,100 (DraftKings), $24 (Yahoo)

Tkachuk had one goal and one assist along with six shots on target and six hits on Monday night against Toronto. The 23-year-old forward will look to carry that momentum into Wednesday’s rematch. Tkachuk only had three assists in nine outings going into Monday’s match. The Flames may not have to face Leafs goalie Frederik Andersen again, which would bode well for the team’s top shooters like Tkachuk.

Bargain Bin: Mats Zuccarello (MIN) - W - $4,800 (FanDuel), $3,700 (DraftKings), $17 (Yahoo), Gabriel Vilardi (LA) - C - $3,300 (FanDuel), $3,400 (DraftKings), $15 (Yahoo), Jordan Kyrou (STL) - W - $4,400 (FanDuel), $5,100 (DraftKings), $15 (Yahoo), Jeff Carter (LA) - W - $4,400 (FanDuel), $4,400 (DraftKings), $18 (Yahoo), Andre Burakovsky (COL) - W - $4,500 (FanDuel), $4,200 (DraftKings), $18 (Yahoo), Martin Necas (CAR) - W - $4,300 (FanDuel), $4,100 (DraftKings), $17 (Yahoo), Ondrej Palat (TB) - W - $5,800 (FanDuel), $5,400 (DraftKings), $22 (Yahoo), Joel Farabee - (PHI) - W - $5,100 (FanDuel), $5,500 (DraftKings), $18 (Yahoo)

Defensemen:

Rasmus Andersson - $4,500 (FanDuel), $4,700 (DraftKings), $18 (Yahoo)

Andersson contributed two assists, two shots and five hits in Monday’s match against Toronto. He has one goal, five helpers and 15 shots in the past six games. Andersson has registered three assists, including two on the man advantage, in three outings versus the Leafs this season. He has plenty of bang for the buck upside on Wednesday night.

Bargain Bin: Devon Toews (COL) - $5,000 (FanDuel), $5,500 (DraftKings), $17 (Yahoo), Jonas Brodin (MIN) - $4,000 (FanDuel), $4,600 (DraftKings), $17 (Yahoo), Jakob Chychrun (ARI) - $4,300 (FanDuel), $6,000 (DraftKings), $20 (Yahoo), Brett Pesce (CAR) - $4,000 (FanDuel), $3,900 (DraftKings), $16 (Yahoo), Mikhail Sergachev (TB) - $4,700 (FanDuel), $4,800 (DraftKings), $17 (Yahoo), Keith Yandle (FLA) - $4,700 (FanDuel), $4,400 (DraftKings), $18 (Yahoo)

Goaltenders:

Brian Elliott (Philadelphia) - $7,900 (FanDuel), $7,600 (DraftKings), $35 (Yahoo)

Ellliott is expected to start Wednesday night versus the New York Rangers. The Flyers netminder has played well this season behind Carter Hart, while posting a 3-1-0 record with a 2.25 goals-against average and .928 save percentage. The Rangers have struggled to score goals this year (2.44 goals for per game) and they put plenty of pucks on net (31.6 shots for per game), which could provide plenty of fantasy points for Elliott. New York is also expected be missing star forward Artemi Panarin, who is taken a leave of absence.

Bargain Bin: David Rittich (CGY) - $7,700 (FanDuel), $7,100 (DraftKings), $20 (Yahoo), Jonathan Quick (LA) - $6,900 (FanDuel), $7,100 (DraftKings), $21 (Yahoo), Chris Driedger (FLA) - $7,800 (FanDuel), $8,000 (DraftKings), $33 (Yahoo)
