San Jose's Joe Pavelski was credited with an incredible 11 hits Sunday's 4-3 loss to Chicago. He now has 72 hits in 33 games in 2015-16 after recording 97 hits in 82 games last season. Cody McLeod has recorded at least two hits in each of his last five games and 14 hits in his last three contests. That's brought him up to 97 hits in 35 games this season. Leo Komarov is having a great season offensively with 15 goals and 24 points in 32 contests, but his work with the puck hasn't changed him in other areas. He still has 147 hits in 32 contests, which is good for fourth place in the league. Cal Clutterbuck is barely ahead of him with 148 hits, although he's played in 34 games. Clutterbuck only finished one contest this season without a hit and that was back on Oct. 26.
Calgary's Mark Giordano has blocked at least two shots in each of his last four games. That's brought him up to 87 blocks in just 33 games, compared to 128 blocked shots in 61 contests in 2014-15. Fellow Flames blueliner Kris Russell has been active in this area too, blocking at least three shots in five of his last six games. Russell has a league-leading 99 blocked shots in 30 contests. Jacob Trouba has blocked 11 shots in his last three contests. He now has 68 in 33 games after recording 120 blocks in 65 contests in 2014-15. Karl Alzner has blocked at least one shot in eight consecutive contests. With 82 blocked shots in 33 games, he holds sole possession of ninth place in the league.
Aleksander Barkov has won at least 52% of his draws in each of his last four games. That's boosted his record to 50%, which is up from his 46.1% success rate in 2014-15. Ryan O'Reilly won 14-of-28 of his faceoffs on Thursday, but that was the only time in his last five games that he hasn't finished a contest with a faceoff success rate of at least 58.6%. So far in 2015-16 he has a 59.2 winning percentage and leads the league with 491 total faceoff wins. Paul Stastny has won at least half of his faceoff opportunities in each of his last 12 games. He has a 58.2% success rate in 19 contests this season after posting a 57.9 winning percentage last season. Mikko Koivu has won at least 57% of his draws in four straight games. That's pushed his winning percentage up to 56.3 in 32 contests.
