American Hockey League

Frank Vatrano, 21, has been limited to seven points in 30 games with the Boston Bruins this season, but in the AHL it’s been a far different story.  He has 29 goals and 41 points in 28 contests with the Providence Bruins.  He’s shown no signs of slowing down either as he had a hat trick on Sunday.  Riley Barber has recorded at least one point in 14 of his last 15 games.  The 22-year-old rookie has 21 goals and 46 points in 58 games with the Hershey Bears.  Jason Dickinson found the back of the net on March 5th for the 10th time in his last 12 games.  That brings him up to 20 goals and 45 points in 60 contests with the Texas Stars.  The 20-year-old was taken with the 29th overall pick in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft by Dallas.  Juuse Saros, 20, has allowed just four goals over the course of his current three-game winning streak.  He has a 2.34 GAA and .918 save percentage in 27 contests with the Milwaukee Admirals in 2015-16.

National Collegiate Athletic Association

Stephen Baylis had three goals and six points in two contests last weekend.  That was a strong deviation from the freshman’s previous work, bringing him up to 18 points in 31 games this season.  James de Haas had a big weekend too with two game-winning goals, giving him five goals and 16 points in 36 contests with Clarkson University this season.  The 21-year-old defenseman was selected by the Detroit Red Wings with the 170th overall pick in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.  Parker Gahagen has allowed just four goals over his last three starts, including a 19-save shutout against American International.   He has a 2.12 GAA and .933 save percentage in 31 games with Army West Point.

Let’s focus on the Swedish Hockey League young players this week.  The league has completed its regular season and the playoffs are about to kick off.  Among players under 24, Andreas Johnson led the pack with 19 goals and 44 points in 52 contests with Frolunda HC.  The 21-year-old forward was taken by the Toronto Maple Leafs with the 202nd overall pick in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.  Pathrik Westerholm, who turned 24 in January, finished with six goals and 33 points in 52 contests with Brynas IF Gavle.  That’s a big jump from 2014-15 when he finished with 13 points in 54 games.  The Vancouver Canucks took him in the sixth round of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.  Marcus Sorensen set new career-highs in 2015-16 with 15 goals and 19 assists in 47 games with Djurgardens IF.  The Ottawa Senators selected the now 23-year-old forward with the 106th overall pick in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.  Defenseman Linus Hultstrom was a teammate of Sorensen this season and finished with 12 goals and 31 points in 52 contests.  Hultstrom ranked first in the defensemen scoring race among players under the age of 24.
