NL-Only Mock Draft

by Nathan Grimm
Updated On: October 4, 2018, 4:04 pm ET

On February 22, 12 fantasy writers participated in an NL-only mock draft. The league is 5x5, standard 14 active hitters and nine active pitchers with two bench spots. The results are listed below.

Round 1

1.1 Thor Nystrom (Rotoworld) - Paul Goldschmidt, 1B, ARI
1.2 Drew Silva (Rotoworld) - Bryce Harper, OF, WAS
1.3 Nathan Grimm (Rotoworld) - Nolan Arenado, 3B, COL
1.4 Ryan Boyer (Rotoworld) - Clayton Kershaw, SP, LAD
1.5 Matthew Pouliot (Rotoworld) - Giancarlo Stanton, OF, MIA
1.6 Jesse Pantuosco (Rotoworld) - Andrew McCutchen, OF, PIT
1.7 Steve Gardner (USA Today) - Anthony Rizzo, 1B, CHC
1.8 Peter Kreutzer (AskRotoman) - A.J. Pollock, OF, ARI
1.9 Scooter Hotz (Baseball Prospectus) - Buster Posey, C, SF
1.10 Scott Pianowski (Yahoo) - Kris Bryant, 3B, CHC
1.11 D.J. Short (Rotoworld) - Dee Gordon, 2B, MIA
1.12 Dave Shovein (Rotoworld) - Jake Arrieta, SP, CHC

One pick, one surprise. Bryce Harper had a monster 2015 season that has firmly entrenched him in the first few picks of drafts this spring, but Paul Goldschmidt and his five-category production from the first base spot is clearly a first-half-of-the-first-round pick as well. Otherwise, the most noteworthy aspect of the first round is the undeniable talent -- in a recent dynasty mock draft, eight of the first 12 selections were National League players.

Round 2

2.13 Dave Shovein (Rotoworld) - Max Scherzer, SP, WAS
2.14 D.J. Short (Rotoworld) - Madison Bumgarner, SP, SF
2.15 Scott Pianowski (Yahoo) - Starling Marte, OF, PIT
2.16 Scooter Hotz (Baseball Prospectus) - Ryan Braun, OF, MIL
2.17 Peter Kreutzer (AskRotoman) - Carlos Gonzalez, OF, COL
2.18 Steve Gardner (USA Today) - Charlie Blackmon, OF, COL
2.19 Jesse Pantuosco (Rotoworld) - Zack Greinke, SP, ARI
2.20 Matthew Pouliot (Rotoworld) - Kyle Schwarber, C, CHC
2.21 Ryan Boyer (Rotoworld) - Joey Votto, 1B, CIN
2.22 Nathan Grimm (Rotoworld) - Corey Seager, SS, LAD
2.23 Drew Silva (Rotoworld) - Gerrit Cole, SP, PIT
2.24 Thor Nystrom (Rotoworld) - Yoenis Cespedes, OF, NYM

The top starter in the game isn't up for debate, but how things shake out from there is open for discussion. Dave Shovein doubled down by grabbing Jake Arrieta at the end of the first round and taking Max Scherzer at the top of the second, and Madison Bumgarner is in the conversation as well. There is a wide range of opinions on Kyle Schwarber's value as a catcher-eligible outfielder in a crowded Cubs outfield, but even in 400 at-bats he could pace the position in homers. Corey Seager sneaks into the second round -- the gulf between him and the rest of the position in NL-only leagues is large.

Round 3

3.25 Thor Nystrom (Rotoworld) - Jacob deGrom, SP, NYM
3.26 Drew Silva (Rotoworld) - Anthony Rendon, 2B, WAS
3.27 Nathan Grimm (Rotoworld) - Stephen Strasburg, SP, WAS
3.28 Ryan Boyer (Rotoworld) - Jose Fernandez, SP, MIA
3.29 Matthew Pouliot (Rotoworld) - Jorge Soler, OF, CHC
3.30 Jesse Pantuosco (Rotoworld) - Jason Heyward, OF, CHC
3.31 Steve Gardner (USA Today) - Matt Harvey, SP, NYM
3.32 Peter Kreutzer (AskRotoman) - Adrian Gonzalez, 1B, LAD
3.33 Scooter Hotz (Baseball Prospectus) - Billy Hamilton, OF, CIN
3.34 Scott Pianowski (Yahoo) - Matt Carpenter, 3B, STL
3.35 D.J. Short (Rotoworld) - Yasiel Puig, OF, LAD
3.36 Dave Shovein (Rotoworld) - Freddie Freeman, 1B, ATL

The sure things start to wane around this point, but there's still plenty of talent worth betting on to return from injury or inconsistency. Anthony Rendon was an easy first-round pick a year ago, and Yasiel Puig wasn't far behind. Jorge Soler's value becomes a little more cloudy with Dexter Fowler back in town, but this mock took place before the Fowler re-signing (explaining his absence as well).

Round 4

4.37 Dave Shovein (Rotoworld) - Matt Kemp, OF, SD
4.38 D.J. Short (Rotoworld) - Maikel Franco, 3B, PHI
4.39 Scott Pianowski (Yahoo) - Christian Yelich, OF, MIA
4.40 Scooter Hotz (Baseball Prospectus) - Jon Lester, SP, CHC
4.41 Peter Kreutzer (AskRotoman) - Noah Syndergaard, SP, NYM
4.42 Steve Gardner (USA Today) - Kenley Jansen, RP, LAD
4.43 Jesse Pantuosco (Rotoworld) - David Peralta, OF, ARI
4.44 Matthew Pouliot (Rotoworld) - Mark Melancon, RP, PIT
4.45 Ryan Boyer (Rotoworld) - Hunter Pence, OF, SF
4.46 Nathan Grimm (Rotoworld) - Trevor Rosenthal, RP, STL
4.47 Drew Silva (Rotoworld) - Gregory Polanco, OF, PIT
4.48 Thor Nystrom (Rotoworld) - Jonathan Lucroy, C, MIL

As with Kershaw, Kenley Jansen doesn't get much argument as the first reliever off the board. A couple interesting juxtapositions happen in this round, as the Matt Kemp-Maikel Franco and Jon Lester-Noah Syndergaard pairings represent owners siding with solid veterans rather than taking a shot on promising but unproven youngsters. Christian Yelich stands out as a player who could outperform his draft position after a 2015 season that, while decent, was less flashy than many expected heading into the season.

Round 5

5.49 Thor Nystrom (Rotoworld) - Carlos Martinez, SP, STL
5.50 Drew Silva (Rotoworld) - Addison Russell, SS, CHC
5.51 Nathan Grimm (Rotoworld) - Devin Mesoraco, C, CIN
5.52 Ryan Boyer (Rotoworld) - Jeurys Familia, RP, NYM
5.53 Matthew Pouliot (Rotoworld) - Randal Grichuk, OF, STL
5.54 Jesse Pantuosco (Rotoworld) - DJ LeMahieu, 2B, COL
5.55 Steve Gardner (USA Today) - Johnny Cueto, SP, SF
5.56 Peter Kreutzer (AskRotoman) - Kolten Wong, 2B, STL
5.57 Scooter Hotz (Baseball Prospectus) - Ben Zobrist, 2B, CHC
5.58 Scott Pianowski (Yahoo) - Brandon Belt, 1B, SF
5.59 D.J. Short (Rotoworld) - Hector Rondon, RP, CHC
5.60 Dave Shovein (Rotoworld) - Travis d'Arnaud, C, NYM

Addison Russell underwhelmed in his rookie season, but he was just 21 years old and came with a pedigree. Still, it's a leap of faith to take him ahead of some more established hitters. Devin Mesoraco's value might be down after missing most of the 2015 season, but he was a top offensive catcher as recently as 2014. Ben Zobrist in that offense could pay huge dividends.

Round 6

6.61 Dave Shovein (Rotoworld) - Matt Duffy, 3B, SF
6.62 D.J. Short (Rotoworld) - Michael Conforto, OF, NYM
6.63 Scott Pianowski (Yahoo) - Adam Wainwright, SP, STL
6.64 Scooter Hotz (Baseball Prospectus) - Michael Wacha, SP, STL
6.65 Peter Kreutzer (AskRotoman) - Curtis Granderson, OF, NYM
6.66 Steve Gardner (USA Today) - Ben Revere, OF, WAS
6.67 Jesse Pantuosco (Rotoworld) - Brandon Crawford, SS, SF
6.68 Matthew Pouliot (Rotoworld) - Joc Pederson, OF, LAD
6.69 Ryan Boyer (Rotoworld) - Stephen Piscotty, OF, STL
6.70 Nathan Grimm (Rotoworld) - Tyson Ross, SP, SD
6.71 Drew Silva (Rotoworld) - Jeff Samardzija, SP, SF
6.72 Thor Nystrom (Rotoworld) - Francisco Liriano, SP, PIT

Michael Conforto showed what he can do toward the end of last year, and the former first-round pick should put up some shiny numbers over a full season. This round also begins to highlight the difference between pitchers and position players in the National League. Duffy, Granderson and Crawford are nice players, but Adam Wainwright and Tyson Ross will be their teams' Opening Day starters and are high-end SP2s.

Round 7

7.73 Thor Nystrom (Rotoworld) - Jay Bruce, OF, CIN
7.74 Drew Silva (Rotoworld) - Jhonny Peralta, SS, STL
7.75 Nathan Grimm (Rotoworld) - Matt Holliday, OF, STL
7.76 Ryan Boyer (Rotoworld) - David Wright, 3B, NYM
7.77 Matthew Pouliot (Rotoworld) - Howie Kendrick, 2B, LAD
7.78 Jesse Pantuosco (Rotoworld) - John Lackey, SP, CHC
7.79 Steve Gardner (USA Today) - Jung Ho Kang, SS, PIT
7.80 Peter Kreutzer (AskRotoman) - Justin Turner, 3B, LAD
7.81 Scooter Hotz (Baseball Prospectus) - Steven Matz, SP, NYM
7.82 Scott Pianowski (Yahoo) - Neil Walker, 2B, NYM
7.83 D.J. Short (Rotoworld) - Lucas Duda, 1B, NYM
7.84 Dave Shovein (Rotoworld) - J.T. Realmuto, C, MIA

This draft took place before Jay Bruce was almost dealt to the Blue Jays, hence the relatively aggressive draft position. Matt Holliday has fallen pretty far for a guy who had one injury-plagued year and still put up decent numbers -- albeit without the power production -- when on the field. Jung Ho Kang is ahead of schedule in his return from knee surgery and could be a good value at this stage of the draft.

Round 8

8.85 Dave Shovein (Rotoworld) - Gerardo Parra, OF, COL
8.86 D.J. Short (Rotoworld) - Patrick Corbin, SP, ARI
8.87 Scott Pianowski (Yahoo) - Josh Harrison, 3B, PIT
8.88 Scooter Hotz (Baseball Prospectus) - James Shields, SP, SD
8.89 Peter Kreutzer (AskRotoman) - Jose Reyes, SS, COL
8.90 Steve Gardner (USA Today) - Yasmani Grandal, C, LAD
8.91 Jesse Pantuosco (Rotoworld) - Justin Bour, 1B, MIA
8.92 Matthew Pouliot (Rotoworld) - Raisel Iglesias, SP, CIN
8.93 Ryan Boyer (Rotoworld) - Ender Inciarte, OF, ATL
8.94 Nathan Grimm (Rotoworld) - Daniel Murphy, 2B, WAS
8.95 Drew Silva (Rotoworld) - Julio Teheran, SP, ATL
8.96 Thor Nystrom (Rotoworld) - Jonathan Papelbon, RP, WAS

A couple interesting outfielders in new situations go off the board in Gerardo Parra and Ender Inciarte. The Rockies moved promising young outfielder Corey Dickerson in part to make room for Parra, who should enjoy the Coors Field bump. Inciarte moved out of a good Diamondbacks offense but should be set free on the basepaths atop a pedestrian Braves offense.

Round 9

9.97 Thor Nystrom (Rotoworld) - Shelby Miller, SP, ARI
9.98 Drew Silva (Rotoworld) - Miguel Montero, C, CHC
9.99 Nathan Grimm (Rotoworld) - Ryan Zimmerman, 1B, WAS
9.100 Ryan Boyer (Rotoworld) - Welington Castillo, C, ARI
9.101 Matthew Pouliot (Rotoworld) - Jonathan Villar, SS, MIL
9.102 Jesse Pantuosco (Rotoworld) - Brandon Phillips, 2B, CIN
9.103 Steve Gardner (USA Today) - Wil Myers, OF, SD
9.104 Peter Kreutzer (AskRotoman) - Jean Segura, SS, ARI
9.105 Scooter Hotz (Baseball Prospectus) - Aaron Nola, SP, PHI
9.106 Scott Pianowski (Yahoo) - Asdrubal Cabrera, SS, NYM
9.107 D.J. Short (Rotoworld) - Eugenio Suarez, SS, CIN
9.108 Dave Shovein (Rotoworld) - Yasmany Tomas, OF, ARI

We've moved to the point in the proceedings where betting on a breakout or return from injury is as good a proposition as any. If healthy, Ryan Zimmerman should have ample RBI opportunities in the middle of a good Nationals lineup. Yasmany Tomas failed to impress in his rookie season, but the departure of Inciarte should give Tomas every chance to prove himself in his sophomore campaign.

Round 10

10.109 Dave Shovein (Rotoworld) - Carter Capps, RP, MIA
10.110 D.J. Short (Rotoworld) - Wilson Ramos, C, WAS
10.111 Scott Pianowski (Yahoo) - Nick Hundley, C, COL
10.112 Scooter Hotz (Baseball Prospectus) - A.J. Ramos, RP, MIA
10.113 Peter Kreutzer (AskRotoman) - Arodys Vizcaino, RP, ATL
10.114 Steve Gardner (USA Today) - Joe Panik, 2B, SF
10.115 Jesse Pantuosco (Rotoworld) - Jake McGee, RP, COL
10.116 Matthew Pouliot (Rotoworld) - Wei-Yin Chen, SP, MIA
10.117 Ryan Boyer (Rotoworld) - Marcell Ozuna, OF, MIA
10.118 Nathan Grimm (Rotoworld) - Domingo Santana, OF, MIL
10.119 Drew Silva (Rotoworld) - Hector Olivera, 3B, ATL
10.120 Thor Nystrom (Rotoworld) - Denard Span, OF, SF

The Marlins' closer job is an open competition this spring, and as evidenced by the two contenders, Carter Capps and A.J. Ramos, going three picks apart, it's anyone's game. Joe Panik fell further than some of his second base brethren, but that just makes the 2015 All-Star a great bargain. The Dodgers gave up on Hector Olivera after half a season, but fantasy owners won't judge so quickly after he enjoyed a long and successful career in Cuba.

Round 11
Round 12

11.121 Thor Nystrom (Rotoworld) - Alexei Ramirez, SS, SD
11.122 Drew Silva (Rotoworld) - Brad Ziegler, RP, ARI
11.123 Nathan Grimm (Rotoworld) - Joe Ross, SP, WAS
11.124 Ryan Boyer (Rotoworld) - Chris Carter, 1B, MIL
11.125 Matthew Pouliot (Rotoworld) - Odubel Herrera, OF, PHI
11.126 Jesse Pantuosco (Rotoworld) - Yadier Molina, C, STL
11.127 Steve Gardner (USA Today) - Scott Kazmir, SP, LAD
11.128 Peter Kreutzer (AskRotoman) - Derek Norris, C, SD
11.129 Scooter Hotz (Baseball Prospectus) - Erick Aybar, SS, ATL
11.130 Scott Pianowski (Yahoo) - Francisco Cervelli, C, PIT
11.131 D.J. Short (Rotoworld) - Anthony DeSclafani, SP, CIN
11.132 Dave Shovein (Rotoworld) - Javier Baez, SS, CHC

12.133 Dave Shovein (Rotoworld) - Gio Gonzalez, SP, WAS
12.134 D.J. Short (Rotoworld) - Martin Prado, 3B, MIA
12.135 Scott Pianowski (Yahoo) - Jaime Garcia, SP, STL
12.136 Scooter Hotz (Baseball Prospectus) - Jayson Werth, OF, WAS
12.137 Peter Kreutzer (AskRotoman) - Kyle Hendricks, SP, CHC
12.138 Steve Gardner (USA Today) - Yangervis Solarte, 3B, SD
12.139 Jesse Pantuosco (Rotoworld) - Mike Leake, SP, STL
12.140 Matthew Pouliot (Rotoworld) - Santiago Casilla, RP, SF
12.141 Ryan Boyer (Rotoworld) - Brandon Moss, 1B, STL
12.142 Nathan Grimm (Rotoworld) - Kenta Maeda, SP, LAD
12.143 Drew Silva (Rotoworld) - Fernando Rodney, RP, SD
12.144 Thor Nystrom (Rotoworld) - Andrew Cashner, SP, SD

The disparity between hitters and pitchers has become evident at this point. When Andrew Cashner, a guy once traded for Anthony Rizzo who throws in the high 90s, is the last pick of a round that includes Martin Prado and Yangervis Solarte, pitching is officially deeper than hitting. That doesn't mean there aren't some interesting flyers to be had among hitters, with Chris Carter, Javier Baez and Brandon Moss all offering high power ceilings.

Round 13
Round 14

13.145 Thor Nystrom (Rotoworld) - Aaron Altherr, OF, PHI
13.146 Drew Silva (Rotoworld) - Michael Taylor, OF, WAS
13.147 Nathan Grimm (Rotoworld) - Nick Markakis, OF, ATL
13.148 Ryan Boyer (Rotoworld) - Chris Owings, SS, ARI
13.149 Matthew Pouliot (Rotoworld) - Ben Paulsen, 1B, COL
13.150 Jesse Pantuosco (Rotoworld) - JJ Hoover, RP, CIN
13.151 Steve Gardner (USA Today) - Andre Ethier, OF, LAD
13.152 Peter Kreutzer (AskRotoman) - Alex Wood, SP, LAD
13.153 Scooter Hotz (Baseball Prospectus) - Jeremy Jeffress, RP, MIL
13.154 Scott Pianowski (Yahoo) - Ryan Howard, 1B, PHI
13.155 D.J. Short (Rotoworld) - Zack Cozart, SS, CIN
13.156 Dave Shovein (Rotoworld) - Trea Turner, SS, WAS

14.157 Dave Shovein (Rotoworld) - David Hernandez, RP, PHI
14.158 D.J. Short (Rotoworld) - Jon Jay, OF, SD
14.159 Scott Pianowski (Yahoo) - Jon Niese, SP, PIT
14.160 Scooter Hotz (Baseball Prospectus) - Will Smith, RP, MIL
14.161 Peter Kreutzer (AskRotoman) - Jake Lamb, 3B, ARI
14.162 Steve Gardner (USA Today) - Jason Hammel, SP, CHC
14.163 Jesse Pantuosco (Rotoworld) - Rubby De La Rosa, SP, ARI
14.164 Matthew Pouliot (Rotoworld) - Cesar Hernandez, 2B, PHI
14.165 Ryan Boyer (Rotoworld) - Jimmy Nelson, SP, MIL
14.166 Nathan Grimm (Rotoworld) - Matt Adams, 1B, STL
14.167 Drew Silva (Rotoworld) - Lucas Giolito, SP, WAS
14.168 Thor Nystrom (Rotoworld) - Cory Spangenberg, 2B, SD

The tables have turned a bit, as modest-floor, low-ceiling veteran hitters start coming off the board along with some upside plays at pitcher. Jon Niese could become the next starter to enjoy a career rejuvenation in Pittsburgh under pitching coach Ray Searage. Trea Turner and Lucas Giolito are two Nationals who aren't expected to have huge impacts in 2016 but could surprise if things break right.

Round 15
Round 16

15.169 Thor Nystrom (Rotoworld) - Jason Grilli, RP, ATL
15.170 Drew Silva (Rotoworld) - Peter O'Brien, OF, ARI
15.171 Nathan Grimm (Rotoworld) - Hyun-Jin Ryu, SP, LAD
15.172 Ryan Boyer (Rotoworld) - Brett Anderson, SP, LAD
15.173 Matthew Pouliot (Rotoworld) - Derek Dietrich, 3B, MIA
15.174 Jesse Pantuosco (Rotoworld) - Jedd Gyorko, 2B, STL
15.175 Steve Gardner (USA Today) - Vincent Velasquez, SP, PHI
15.176 Peter Kreutzer (AskRotoman) - Homer Bailey, SP, CIN
15.177 Scooter Hotz (Baseball Prospectus) - Scooter Gennett, 2B, MIL
15.178 Scott Pianowski (Yahoo) - Freddy Galvis, SS, PHI
15.179 D.J. Short (Rotoworld) - Jake Peavy, SP, SF
15.180 Dave Shovein (Rotoworld) - Danny Espinosa, 2B, WAS

16.181 Dave Shovein (Rotoworld) - Brandon Finnegan, SP, CIN
16.182 D.J. Short (Rotoworld) - Jumbo Diaz, RP, CIN
16.183 Scott Pianowski (Yahoo) - Adeiny Hechavarria, SS, MIA
16.184 Scooter Hotz (Baseball Prospectus) - Angel Pagan, OF, SF
16.185 Peter Kreutzer (AskRotoman) - Chris Coghlan, OF, CHC
16.186 Steve Gardner (USA Today) - Wilmer Flores, SS, NYM
16.187 Jesse Pantuosco (Rotoworld) - Aaron Hill, 2B, MIL
16.188 Matthew Pouliot (Rotoworld) - Kirk Nieuwenhuis, OF, MIL
16.189 Ryan Boyer (Rotoworld) - Robbie Ray, SP, ARI
16.190 Nathan Grimm (Rotoworld) - John Jaso, 1B, PIT
16.191 Drew Silva (Rotoworld) - Jose Peraza, 2B, CIN
16.192 Thor Nystrom (Rotoworld) - Cameron Rupp, C, PHI

Chris Coghlan was still a member of the Cubs when the draft took place, so the pick will be excused. Robbie Ray is buried at the back end of the Diamondbacks' rotation, but he posted a 3.52 ERA with 119 strikeouts in 127 2/3 innings as a 23-year-old. Jose Peraza doesn't have a starting job carved out, but if he gets an opportunity he could run at will on a bad Reds team.

Round 17
Round 18
Round 19

17.193 Thor Nystrom (Rotoworld) - Jace Peterson, 2B, ATL
17.194 Drew Silva (Rotoworld) - Mark Reynolds, 1B, COL

17.196 Ryan Boyer (Rotoworld) - Tyler Glasnow, SP, PIT
17.197 Matthew Pouliot (Rotoworld) - Adam Warren, SP, CHC
17.198 Jesse Pantuosco (Rotoworld) - Darin Ruf, 1B, PHI
17.199 Steve Gardner (USA Today) - Hunter Strickland, RP, SF
17.200 Peter Kreutzer (AskRotoman) - Tanner Roark, SP, WAS
17.201 Scooter Hotz (Baseball Prospectus) - Orlando Arcia, SS, MIL
17.202 Scott Pianowski (Yahoo) - Jerad Eickhoff, SP, PHI
17.203 D.J. Short (Rotoworld) - Melvin Upton, OF, SD
17.204 Dave Shovein (Rotoworld) - Adonis Garcia, 3B, ATL

18.205 Dave Shovein (Rotoworld) - Socrates Brito, OF, ARI
18.206 D.J. Short (Rotoworld) - Chase Anderson, SP, MIL
18.207 Scott Pianowski (Yahoo) - Taylor Jungmann, SP, MIL
18.208 Scooter Hotz (Baseball Prospectus) - Cody Asche, OF, PHI
18.209 Peter Kreutzer (AskRotoman) - Jason Motte, RP, COL
18.210 Steve Gardner (USA Today) - Carl Crawford, OF, LAD
18.211 Jesse Pantuosco (Rotoworld) - Michael Bourn, OF, ATL
18.212 Matthew Pouliot (Rotoworld) - Brandon Maurer, SP, SD
18.213 Ryan Boyer (Rotoworld) - Enrique Hernandez, OF, LAD
18.214 Nathan Grimm (Rotoworld) - Matt Cain, SP, SF
18.215 Drew Silva (Rotoworld) - Zack Wheeler, SP, NYM
18.216 Thor Nystrom (Rotoworld) - Will Middlebrooks, 3B, MIL

19.217 Thor Nystrom (Rotoworld) - Kelly Johnson, OF, ATL
19.218 Drew Silva (Rotoworld) - Juan Lagares, OF, NYM
19.219 Nathan Grimm (Rotoworld) - Tyler Flowers, C, ATL
19.220 Ryan Boyer (Rotoworld) - John Lamb, SP, CIN
19.221 Matthew Pouliot (Rotoworld) - Tony Watson, RP, PIT
19.222 Jesse Pantuosco (Rotoworld) - Bartolo Colon, SP, NYM
19.223 Steve Gardner (USA Today) - Alex Guerrero, OF, LAD
19.224 Peter Kreutzer (AskRotoman) - Manny Banuelos, SP, ATL
19.225 Scooter Hotz (Baseball Prospectus) - Chase Utley, 2B, LAD
19.226 Scott Pianowski (Yahoo) - Tom Koehler, SP, MIA
19.227 D.J. Short (Rotoworld) - Jesse Winker, OF, CIN
19.228 Dave Shovein (Rotoworld) - Adam Duvall, OF, CIN

Adam Warren, Tanner Roark, John Lamb -- there remains no shortage of interesting names in the starting pitching category. Tyler Glasnow and Orlando Arcia are speculative picks, but it's worth throwing a few darts at this stage. If a Jay Bruce trade does come to fruition before Opening Day, Jesse Winker and Adam Duvall suddenly become much more interesting names in the Reds outfield.

22.263 Drew Silva (Rotoworld) - Cody Reed, SP, CIN
22.264 Thor Nystrom (Rotoworld) - Nick Swisher, OF, ATL

Top prospects become en vogue the later it gets, with guys like Robert Stephenson, Josh Bell, JP Crawford and Cody Reed making for worthwhile gambles. Guys who might not yet have important roles but who are an injury away from one -- Chris Heston, Tyler Clippard, Tim Cooney -- are also in demand. And backup catchers, normally valueless, also find their way off the board, as finding 24 catchers worth starting in an NL-only league is a thankless task.

We mercifully reach the end of the road before owners start drafting middle relievers and emergency catchers. And even now, it's not hard to imagine guys like Adam Conley, Archie Bradley and Tyler Goeddel having a positive impact this year.
