Pickup of the Day: 6/3

Welcome to Pickup of the Day, where every weekday we'll pick an under-the-radar player whose immediate value is on the rise. The idea here is to identify a starter who can give you some solid innings off the scrap heap, a talented backup who's been given a chance because of a starter's injury, an unheralded regular with a favorable matchup, or a potential breakout player who's starting to put it together. Unlike regular waiver-wire advice, Pickup of the Day is geared more towards interim success, but hopefully we'll have the intuition to help you snag a waiver-wire gem a few times this season.

It's hard to fathom how Kevin Kiermaier is only 22% owned in Yahoo leagues at the moment. The 27-year-old outfielder has displayed an impressive blend of power and speed this season, slashing .246/.326/.389 with six homers, 17 RBI and nine stolen bases. Given how difficult it can be at times to find speed on the waiver wire, Kiermaier looks like an excellent addition in all but the shallowest of mixed leagues. He's also hot at the plate right now, hitting .316/.366/.605 with five homers, 10 RBI and three swipes in his last 19 games. On top of that, he spends plenty of time hitting out of the second slot in the Rays' lineup, leading to plenty of chances to rack up counting stats. Strike now while the iron is hot here.
