Welcome to Pickup of the Day, where every weekday we'll pick an under-the-radar player whose immediate value is on the rise. The idea here is to identify a starter who can give you some solid innings off the scrap heap, a talented backup who's been given a chance because of a starter's injury, an unheralded regular with a favorable matchup, or a potential breakout player who's starting to put it together. Unlike regular waiver-wire advice, Pickup of the Day is geared more towards interim success, but hopefully we'll have the intuition to help you snag a waiver-wire gem a few times this season.

George Springer suffered a concussion on Tuesday night when he slammed into the right-field wall at Minute Maid Park in Houston after making a spectacular catch. He was officially placed on the 7-day disabled list Wednesday, with 24-year-old outfielder Preston Tucker getting the call from Triple-A Fresno in a corresponding roster move. Concussions come with a range of severities and recovery timetables, meaning Springer could be back in seven days or miss a significant period of time. Tucker was sporting a 1.028 OPS with 10 home runs and 32 RBI in 25 games at the Triple-A level. He's worth a look in deep mixed fantasy leagues.
