Thursday night was interesting for a few reasons. I think a big takeaway from it is that coaches are not nearly as concerned about shaking up their starting lineups. Minutes are minutes, so getting the best combo of players against an opponent is the most important thing.
That's why fantasy owners may want to keep an eye on usage rate and other rates (steals, blocks, boards) to gauge fantasy value. Andre Roberson and Lance Stephenson start for their teams, but I wouldn't even draft them at pick 250 in my drafts. Anyway, let's look at some pickups.
Kristaps Porzingis - He's a must-own guy now.
Robin Lopez - He can block, board and hit free throws. Just two years ago Ro-Lo was a top-30 player after the break.
Jerian Grant - I really didn't get a chance to check him out on Wednesday and his rotation minutes looked fluky. After Thursday, nope. Grant looks really good and Carmelo Anthony has said he really likes to play with him.
Myles Turner - If you need a big, I'd take him over Grant.
Kyle O'Quinn - If you want a higher floor and more consistency, KOQ is your guy over Turner.
Dennis Schroder - I wouldn't call him a pickup tonight, but just saying I'd prefer Grant to Dennis.
C.J. Miles - I'm not a Miles guy. Falls off a cliff and he gets hurt in games all the time.
Jeff Green - As long as he closes, it doesn't matter if he starts.
Rodney Stuckey - He's set for minutes in the mid 20s now, but a low upside after fluky year from deep in 2014-15.
Lamar Patterson - He's the #SummerLeagueMatters guy right now. Patterson earned a spot on the team and he might be starting soon.
