Connor leads NCAA in scoring

American Hockey League


Hershey's Riley Barber picked up four goals and three assists in four matches last week. The AHL rookie has 25 points in 44 games this season. He was a sixth-round pick of the Washington Capitals in the 2012 NHL Draft. Connor Brown of the Toronto Marlies notched two goals and two helpers in three appearances. Brown returned from a two-month absence because of an ankle injury on Jan. 24 and he scored two goals in that match against Utica. He has 10 points in 12 games this year and was a sixth-round pick of the Maple Leafs in 2012. Binghamton Senators center Eric O'Dell posted three goals and five points in three contests. He has 17 goals and 31 points in 39 games for Ottawa's minor-league affiliate this campaign. Jordan Schroeder earned six assists in three games for the Iowa Wild. The former first-round pick (22nd overall) in 2009 is trying to work his way back into the NHL. He has 26 points in 28 games with Minnesota's farm club.


National Collegiate Athletic Association


Tyler Motte accounted for seven points, including four goals, in a pair of wins over Penn State last week. He posted a five-point performance in a 7-4 victory for the University of Michigan on Thursday. Motte was chosen in the fourth round of the 2013 NHL Entry Draft by Chicago. His teammate and NCAA leading scorer, Kyle Connor had a five points as well in the 7-4 win. Connor earned six points in the two contests to give him 42 points in 23 outings. He was the 17th overall pick in the 2015 draft by Winnipeg. Mikey Eyssimont was awarded with the North Star College Cup Most Outstanding Player after he led St. Cloud State to the tournament title. He notched two goals and one assist in a 5-4 win over Minnesota State in the semifinal and he added two more points in a 5-2 win against Bemidji State in the final. The 19-year-old has 19 points in 27 contests this campaign. Blaine Byron produced five points in a two-game sweep versus Massachusetts. He had one goal and two helpers in Saturday's 5-4 triumph. The University of Maine junior has 21 points in 28 games this year. He was the 179th overall pick in the 2013 NHL Draft by the Pittsburgh Penguins.




Ilya Sorokin, who the New York Islanders chose in the third round of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft, was named the KHL's best goaltender of the month of January. He posted seven wins in eight appearances, while registering a goals-against average of 0.98 and a save percentage of 96.08. The 20-year-old netminder earned three shutouts in those outings for CSKA Moscow. Avtomobilist netminder Igor Ustinsky was named the league's best rookie of the month. He recorded six wins in eight games, while earning a .932 save percentage and a 2.21 GAA. The 21-year-old could be someone to keep an eye on.
