Drop Trends: Strome to AHL?

A surprising AHL demotion and some injuries concerns are at the forefront of this week's edition of Drop Trends.

Ryan Strome (NYI - C, RW)

Dropped: 1,884 times

Why? He was loaned to Bridgeport of the AHL on Friday.

Recommendation: Strome's demotion to the minors was quite surprising. He didn't have a point in five straight games before heading to the AHL. Strome has gotten off to slow start with one goal and four assists in 12 contests, but he notched 17 markers and 50 points in 81 matches last year. It's unclear how long he'll be in the AHL, but he will be back in the NHL sooner rather than later. Be prepared to get him back at that time.

Artem Anisimov (CHI - C, LW)

Dropped: 1,172 times

Why? Suffered a lower-body injury this past Friday.

Recommendation: Anisimov's ailment looks like it won't sideline him very long and he could be ready to return as soon as Sunday's game against Edmonton. He skated with Patrick Kane during the morning session. Anisimov has five goals an seven points in 14 games this year, but the dropping may have been premature.

Anthony Duclair (ARI, LW, RW)

Dropped: 1,172 times

Why? His scoreless streak extended to seven consecutive games.

Recommendation: Duclair has cooled off considerably after a hot start. He posted five shots on goal in Saturday's game versus the Rangers, which is more than he had in his previous six outings combined. He may be in store for a bit a rebound now, but jumping off the bandwagon isn't the wrong call.

Dennis Wideman (CGY - D)

Dropped: 1,001 times

Why? Offense has dried up.

Recommendation: Wideman was expected to lose fantasy value this year because the Flames have Mark Giordano, T.J. Brodie and Dougie Hamilton in the fold. It's been a sluggish start for Calgary's defense corps and Wideman has picked up one assist in his last 10 contests. His struggles have also seen him record a minus-7 rating and three shots in his past seven outings. Wideman's lack of shots and his plus-minus rating should worry fantasy owners. I support the decision to let him go.

Marian Gaborik (LAK - RW)

Dropped: 897 times

Why? Slow start this season.

Recommendation: Gaborik has generated just one goal and one assist in 14 games this season. He has been dropped to the Kings' third line and it's not looking good for him. Still, I believe it's too early to cut him loose. His demotion probably won't last and he has plenty of offensive talent. The situation is worth monitoring though. If his slump stretches into late November then you should move on.
