Drop Trends examines some of the players who were most frequently dropped in Yahoo leagues on Saturday and determines if you should stay put or follow the trend.

Henrik Lundqvist (NYR - G)

Dropped: 3,093 times

Why? He is two-to-three weeks with a lower-body injury.

Recommendation: With the fantasy hockey playoffs upon us or just around the corner for others, Lundqvist probably won’t be available until very late in the season, if he returns at all, so cutting him loose in favor of Rangers backup Antti Raanta is the smart move. If Raanta isn’t available then another crease addition in the place of Lundqvist is highly recommended. This isn’t a situation where patience should come into play if you are in a redraft league and need help between the pipes.

James Reimer (FLA - G)

Dropped: 1,879 times

Why? Reimer has gone winless in his last seven outings (0-6-1).

Recommendation: Reimer started six of those contests. He is a goaltender you could take a wait-and-approach with if the waiver options are scarce. Roberto Luongo doesn’t appear to be on the road to recovery, so Reimer will continue to shoulder the load for the Panthers. He has played some solid games during his winless skid and Florida has plenty of upcoming contests on the road, where he has played better this campaign.

Jonathan Bernier (ANA - G)

Dropped: 1,854 times

Why? John Gibson is back from a lower-body injury.

Recommendation: Bernier won four of his six starts after Gibson was injured, including a 43-save shutout win over Chicago. Unfortunately for him and anyone looking to take advantage of the situation, Gibson got back in the lineup after that performance. Anaheim only has two back-to-back situations left on the schedule, including one next weekend, so Bernier may not play much for the rest of the season.

Peter Budaj (TBL - G)

Dropped: 1,238 times

Why? He hasn’t started for the Lightning since he made his debut on Mar. 3.

Recommendation: I mentioned last week that Budaj’s ownership would continue to decrease and as expected that has come to fruition. He is owned in 43% of Yahoo leagues now. Budaj won’t play much behind Andrei Vasilevskiy, who has been impressive since Ben Bishop was traded. Tampa Bay has three back-to-back sets remaining for the rest of the season, so Budaj should get some additional playing time. However, he isn’t worth hanging onto in the vast majority of leagues.

Darcy Kuemper (MIN - G)

Dropped: 970 times

Why? He was pulled in his start against Florida on Mar. 10.

Recommendation: Kuemper has been yanked in each of his last two appearances and that won’t help him his case for more action as the regular season draws to a close. The Wild backup has started just 15 times and he hasn’t been impressive despite a 7-3-3 record. He has a 3.28 goals-against average and a .904 save percentage. Kuemper isn’t worthy of a spot on your roster.
