Eichel continues to impress

Chris Wideman saw his point streak end on Wednesday at nine games.  Over that span, he scored an impressive seven goals and 13 points.  Wideman was taken by the Ottawa Senators in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft and recorded 51 points and 101 penalty minutes in 73 games with Binghamton last season.  Nick Cousins had just 29 points in his first full AHL season in 2013-14, but he’s stepped up in 2014-15 with three goals and 10 points in nine games.  He was selected by the Philadelphia Flyers with the 68th pick overall in the 2011 draft.  Lehigh Valley Phantoms teammate has conversely struggled lately, but he got off to a hot start and has five goals and seven points in nine game so far this season.  Chase Balisy is tied for the lead among rookies with four goals and 10 points in 10 games.  The St. John’s IceCaps forward had 37 points in 40 NCAA games in 2013-14.

Jack Eichel had an assist on Saturday to extend his season-opening point streak to five games.  He now has four goals and nine points in 2014-15 with Boston University.  He’s typically projected to be a top-two pick in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft.   Cody Wydo chipped in three assists over two games against the Rochester Institute of Technology.  Wydo has six goals and seven assists in eight games with Robert Morris University in 2014-15. Mario Lucia is on a three-game goal scoring streak and has found the back of the net in six of his eight contests this season.  He now has eight goals and 10 points with Notre Dame in 2014-15.  Landon Smith had two goals and an assist in Sunday’s contest.  That gives the freshman four goals and eight points in six contests with with Quinnipiac University.




New York Islanders prospect Kirill Kabanov decided to make the move from the North American minors to Sweden’s top league last season.  So far it’s worked out for the 22-year-old forward as he has four goals and 15 points in 18 contests with Skelleftea AIK in 2014-15.  Andreas Johnson, 19, is also having a strong season in the Swedish Hockey League with 10 goals and 14 points in 18 games.  He was taken by the Toronto Maple Leafs with the 202nd overall pick in the 2013 NHL Entry Draft.  Joonas Donskoi has five goals and 15 points in 20 SM-liiga games after recording 37 points in 60 contests in 2013-14.  The Florida Panthers drafted him in the fourth round of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft.  Aleksi Mustonen has three goals and 11 points in 17 SM-liiga games with Ilves Tampere this season.  The 19-year-old participated in 18 games with Tampere last season, but only recorded two points.
