Garland going strong in AHL

Conor Garland captured the AHL Player of the Week distinction for the period ending Oct. 28 after he generated two goals and five assists in just two games. He has 11 points, including eight helpers, in seven outings this season with the Tucson Roadrunners. Garland was taken in the fifth round (123rd overall) in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft. Rochester Americans forward Victor Olofsson was the named the AHL Player of the Month for October. He registered five goals and a league-leading 15 points in 10 matches. The 23-year-old is playing in his first AHL season from the Swedish Hockey League. Olofsson was a seventh-round choice (181st overall) of the Buffalo Sabres in the 2014 NHL Draft. Henrik Borgstrom was the AHL Rookie of the Month for October. He notched four goals and seven assists in his first seven games for Springfield. Borgstrom hit the ground running with a four-point effort (one goal, three assists) his AHL debut. Borgstrom was the 23rd overall pick in the 2016 NHL Draft by the Florida Panthers. Antoine Bibeau of the San Jose Barracuda was October’s AHL Goaltender of the Month. He posted a 3-1-1 record with a 1.75 goals-against average and .940 save percentage in five appearances, while facing 149 shots.

 

National Collegiate Athletic Association

 

Max Johnson has claimed the HCA National Player of the Month honor for October. He is currently tied for first in scoring in the NCAA with 13 points (six goals, seven assists) in seven contests. The 20-year-old sophomore had 30 points in 41 games for Bowling Green State University last season. Johnny Walker has 13 points this campaign as well, but he has that total in eight appearances. The 22-year-old Arizona State University sophomore netted four goals last Saturday in a 7-2 win over Nebraska-Omaha. The HCA National Rookie of the Month for October went to Wisconsin's K'Andre Miller. The New York Rangers prospect collected two goals and seven points in six outings. Miller is tied for third in points among all freshmen. He was grabbed with the 22nd overall pick in the 2018 NHL Entry Draft. Ryan Larkin was the HCA National Goaltender of the Month for October. He posted a 5-1-0 record, including three shutouts, with a 0.83 goals-against average and .966 save percentage. The 21-year-old is playing his third season with Miami University (Ohio). He is the cousin of Detroit Red Wings forward Dylan Larkin.

 

Deutsche Eishockey Liga

 

Justin Schutz is the only drafted prospect playing in the DEL this season. He has one assist in three games for EHC Munchen. The 18-year-old winger was taken in the sixth round (170th overall) of the 2018 NHL Draft by the Florida Panthers. Schutz has also played for EC Salzburg II (AlpsHL) and SC Riessersee (Germany3) this year. Tobias Eder has one goal and one assist in seven games with EHC Munchen. The 20-year-old also has five goals and 11 points over seven matches for SC Riessersee in 2018-19. Lean Bergmann, who is also 20 years of age, has compiled six goals, nine points and 32 penalty minutes in 14 contests for the Iserlohn Roosters. He spent three seasons in the USHL prior to heading to Germany. He had 25 points and 132 penalty minutes in 56 games for the Green Bay Gamblers last year.
