Get well, Pascal

Another big injury makes an appearance on Drop Trends this week. Valeri Nichushkin's hip surgery will keep him on the shelf for another four months and fantasy owners of Pascal Dupuis got some bad news as well after he was diagnosed with a blood clot in his lung.

Pascal Dupuis (PIT - LW/RW)

Dropped: 1,299 times

Why? He's expected to miss at least six months.

Recommendation: Dupuis was limited to 39 games last season because of a knee injury and another significant ailment will sideline him in 2014-15. Dupuis has a blood clot in his lung that is projected to keep him out for at least six months. It's an easy decision to drop someone who is not expected to play another game in the regular season this year. We wish him the best in his recovery.

Damon Severson (NJD - D)

Dropped: 1,198 times

Why? Hasn't followed up hot start with any offense.

Recommendation: Severson hasn't earned a point in his last 10 games and he has a minus-4 rating over that span. However, he is still logging plenty of ice time and he has registered 24 shots during his cold streak, but the point aren't flowing like they were in October. He may be someone to look at down the road once he heats up again.

Anton Stralman (TBL - D)

Dropped: 1,060 times

Why? Points have been harder to come by.

Recommendation: Stralman put an end to a seven-game pointless drought on Saturday with a pair of assists in a 2-1 win over Minnesota. It was a good rebound effort after he posted a minus-3 rating in Thursday's loss to Toronto. Stralman's scoring pace has slowed down, but that was bound to happen. He still has solid numbers, with 12 points, 27 blocks, 27 hits and a plus-12 rating. If you just wanted his offense and there are better options on waivers then I can see why you let him go, but I still like him as a depth defender. Stralman is getting power-play time and he has good all-around value even though his stats don't exactly jump off the page.

Brad Marchand (BOS - LW)

Dropped: 932 times

Why? Out with mysterious injury and quietly moved to injured reserve.

Recommendation: Marchand has sat out the last three games with an undisclosed injury. He skated briefly on Saturday and is eligible to play as early as Monday's game versus Pittsburgh. Marchand's status is unclear, but I wouldn't have cut him loose. If you can stash him on IR or your bench then that would be a preferable move.

Tommy Wingels (SJS - RW)

Dropped: 891 times

Why? Cooled off offensively after a hot start.

Recommendation: Wingels has rubbed shoulders with the stars of the San Jose Sharks this year, playing with Logan Couture, Patrick Marleau, Joe Thornton and Joe Pavelski, but he's been skating outside of the team's top-six group lately. Wingels scored a goal for the first time in 11 games on Saturday versus Arizona. He is a hit machine, with 84 in 23 contests, and could be someone to add if he gets back on a scoring line.
