Unlike last week, injuries didn't play a major role in this past Saturday's drops. One player did make the cut due to an ailment, but the others were let go mostly because their roles became less favorable.
Anders Lee (NYI - C, LW)
Dropped: 2,071 times
Why? Removed from John Tavares' wing and has one point in his past five games.
Recommendation: Lee scored his 23rd goal of the season after he was taken off the top line and placed alongside Ryan Strome and Brock Nelson. It extended his point streak to six straight games, but he hasn't picked up a point in four contests since then. His ice time has also drastically been reduced in his past two outings. The 24-year-old will probably chip in more points before the end of the season, but losing Tavares as a linemate is a big blow to his fantasy value. It's time to look elsewhere for another hot stick.
Michael Cammalleri (NJD - C, LW)
Dropped: 1,351 times
Why? Sat out the last two games with an illness.
Recommendation: Cammalleri is questionable to play on Monday versus Los Angeles. He posted a two-point performance against Arizona on Mar. 14 and has been held scoreless in five other games in his past six appearances. Prior to his illness and slight cold stretch, Cammalleri had a seven-game scoring spree (six goals, three assists), so fantasy owners probably got the most out of him when they could. Depending on who is available it's reasonable to cut him loose.
Keith Kinkaid (NJD - G)
Dropped: 1,155 times
Why? He completed his start against Buffalo on Friday and has returned to the bench.
Recommendation: Fantasy owners used Kinkaid for a spot start versus the lowly Sabres and were nearly rewarded with a shutout in a 28-save, 3-1 victory. The 25-year-old netminder has only appeared in 15 games this year behind workhorse starter Cory Schneider. There's a chance that he could see one more game before the end of the season, so you are better off looking for another backup to add to your bench.
Travis Hamonic (NYI - D)
Dropped: 1,143 times
Why? Scoring pace has slowed after a red hot February.
Recommendation: Hamonic generated 11 assists and 12 points in 15 games during February, but he's produced four points in nine matches this month. It's ironic that he notched a goal and an assist on Saturday in a 3-0 win against New Jersey just as fantasy owners were losing their patience with him. Hamonic provides plenty of hits, blocks, PIMS and he's one point away from hitting 30 on the year. That's pretty good value if you are looking to hit more categories than just points. However, if you are just looking for offense and power-play points then Hamonic probably isn't what you need.
Michael Hutchinson (WPG - G)
Dropped: 1,128 times
Why? Ondrej Pavelec has started four straight games and Hutchinson has been struggling.
Recommendation: The rookie goaltender has enjoyed a great season and it looked like he was emerging as the starter for the Jets. However, he has been pulled twice in his last four outings and he has earned one win, so he left the door open for Pavelec. The veteran puck stopper has four consecutive victories and Hutchinson has been moved to the bench as a result. He may not play much for the rest of the regular season if Pavelec can continue his roll.
