A couple of injures, a pair of forwards slowing down a little from hot streaks and an inconsistent goalie made up the most dropped players on Saturday.
Just missing the cut this week was Nashville netminder Carter Hutton, who was added 1,126 times after Pekka Rinne was injured and dropped 693 times after a disastrous start against Detroit on Saturday.
Mathieu Perreault (WPG - C)
Dropped: 1,993 times
Why? Injured in Friday's win over Chicago
Recommendation: Perreault is expected to miss at least Winnipeg's next two games after he was cross-checked in the back and to his arm by Daniel Carcillo. He will likely be re-evaluated after the All-Star break. Perreault has been red hot for a while, so I would probably be inclined to take a wait-and-see approach with his status. He had nine goals and nine assists in 18 games before his four-goal outburst against Florida.
Cam Ward (CAR - G)
Dropped 1,133 times
Why? He has been struggling and Anton Khudobin could be in line for more action
Recommendation: I agree with the masses here. He has picked up four wins in his past 15 outings (4-9-2) and his save percentage has been up and down during that span. On the other side, Khudobin has excellent in his last four starts, while allowing two goals or less each time, and earning four victories.
Eric Fehr (WSH - RW)
Dropped: 1,009 times
Why? Had one assist in four games after a hot streak
Recommendation: This one I can go either way with. He had a five-game scoring streak, where he tallied six goals and two assists, and that may not be something he will be able to duplicate. However, he netted his 14th goal of the year on Saturday an he's on pace to flirt with the 40-point mark, which would be a career high for him. There probably are better options out there, so I would feel comfortable dropping him if that were the case.
Derick Brassard (NYR - C)
Dropped: 868 times
Why? Cold down after four-game point spree
Recommendation: Brassard hasn't had some of the consistency issues that have have disrupted his production in the past. He went four games without a point and posted a minus-4 rating, but that is the longest he has gone without getting on the scoresheet this season. Looking at the scoreboard on Sunday, Brassard has a goal and an assist after two periods versus Pittsburgh, so he appears to be getting back on track. I would stick with him.
Tyler Toffoli (LAK - RW)
Dropped: 806 times
Why? Sidelined with mono
Recommendation: Toffoli landed on injured reserve this week retroactive to Jan. 8. He has sat out four games due to the illness and is listed as day-to-day. If you don't want to use your IR slot on him then it's reasonable to drop him. Toffoli has registered two goals and two assists in his past 11 games and nine points in last 23 contests.
