The fans' Top 5 teams they love to hate
1. New York Yankees
Commonly referred to as the "Evil Empire," fans hate the Yanks for several reasons, but one of the biggest is their propensity for throwing around money in an effort to buy championships like with the signings of pitchers CC Sabathia and A.J. Burnett. There were plenty of A-Rod haters out there already, but his recent admission of using steroids has just added to those feelings. And many Yankee haters agree that the revered Derek Jeter is one of the most overrated players in baseball.
2. Notre Dame football
Notre Dame football has a rich and storied history including 11 national titles, but their last championship came in 1988. Even in seasons when Notre Dame may have a good record, many fans complain that the Irish have no right being in the national title picture due to a poor strength of schedule since they aren't in a conference. Plus, it doesn't help that coach Charlie Weis and quarterback Jimmy Clausen came to ND with considerable expectations but have yet to live up to the hype.
3. Dallas Cowboys
Hands-on owner Jerry Jones has drawn the ire of football fans everywhere for decades, dating back to his firing of beloved coach Tom Landry in 1988. He's also not afraid to bring in guys with bad public images like Terrell Owens, Tank Johnson and Pacman Jones. Fans had a new reason to hate the Cowboys the last couple of years with the Tony Romo-Jessica Simpson circus. When your QB takes a vacation with his celebrity girlfriend before a playoff game, fans usually won't approve.
4. New England Patriots
The biggest reason that football fans everywhere have begun to despise the Patriots is their coach, Bill Belichick. His cold demeanor is offputting enough, but "Spygate" took the fans' hatred to a whole new level. The Patriots were caught viderotaping the Jets' defensive coaches' signals from the sidelines during a game on Sept. 9, 2007. Belichick and the team were fined, and the Pats lost a draft pick, but the hatred continues. Fans also can't be happy that the Pats' star QB is married to a super model.
5. Boston Red Sox
There's been just as big a backlash against the Red Sox fans, also known as "Red Sox Nation," as there has been against the team itself. As if it wasn't bad enough hearing Boston fans whine and complain year after year about the Curse of the Bambino, once the Red Sox broke the curse and won the World Series in 2004, things got worse and worse. Red Sox Nation has gone on to include a President, Vice President and Governors from seven different states. If that's not obnoxious, what is?
