Here are some final-month rankings. Please try not to get too bent out of shape if your star player isn’t listed where you like ... anything can happen in a month. Heck, there was a month this year in which Owen Miller compiled a 1.166 OPS and Madison Bumgarner had a 1.17 ERA.
As always, players are ranked by position and then combined into an overall top 300 list.

Dropping off: Josh H. Smith (46th), Maikel Franco (53rd), Jake Burger (65th), Mike Brosseau (67th), Chad Pinder (70th)
- I haven’t touched the top five here in months, but I did weigh dropping Rafael Devers behind Austin Riley this time around. Devers just hasn’t been quite right since he started dealing with back and hamstring injuries in July. He’s further removed from those injuries now, so a bounce-back September is quite possible. Still, I dropped him several spots in the overall top 300, and I probably would have put him below Riley if Riley had been hitting better of late.
- Josh Jung‘s callup appears imminent, even if he has cooled off in Triple-A over the last week (he’s still batting .297/.357/.656 through 15 games). Ideally, he’ll split time between third base and DH in Texas next month and amass a little mixed-league value.
- The Dodgers are set to put Miguel Vargas back on the roster on Sept. 1, but it isn’t clear that he’ll have a whole lot to do, at least not unless someone ahead of him gets hurt. He should get a long look for the third base job next spring after hitting .304/.402/.511 in Triple-A this year.
