George Springer singled twice, walked, scored a run and drove in three on Tuesday night, as the Blue Jays bested the Athletics 7-1 in Oakland.
Springer — who served as the Jays’ designated hitter in this one — delivered a two-run single off of Sammy Long in the seventh inning that extended the Jays’ lead to 3-0. He scored later in the inning on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Whit Merrifield. Springer then drove in the game’s final run with an RBI single in the eighth inning. With his two-hit attack, the 33-year-old outfielder is now hitting .262/.335/.406 with 17 homers, 59 RBI and 19 stolen bases over 132 games on the year.
