Well that was a short stay. The 28-year-old hurler was recalled from Triple-A just prior to Saturday’s game against the Brewers, and then was sent right back down after the game — after he threw 32 pitches while working a scoreless ninth inning. He should get another opportunity with the big league club before September comes to an end.

This was a tight one until the eighth. The Dodgers scored three that inning and four more in the ninth to turn into a laugher. Hernández’s homer gave the Dodgers a 4-3 lead in the fourth, and he singled in one in the eighth and two in the ninth. It’s the fourth time he’s collected six RBI in a game, though the first time he hasn’t needed two homers to get there. He’s 15-for-37 with three homers and 14 RBI in his last 10 games.

All of the runs came in the first, which was prolonged by Sasaki’s own error. He threw 35 pitches in that inning, but no more than 14 in any of his subsequent four frames. It’s another little step forward for Sasaki, who moved to 3-3 with a 4.93 ERA. We still wouldn’t want him active in mixed leagues, but at least that seems like a realistic possibility now. He’ll get the Phillies next weekend.

Gasser walked four and allowed four hits, one of which was a three-run homer from Teoscar Hernández. With Brandon Woodruff coming back, Gasser figures to return to Triple-A on Sunday.

It’s the third time in his career that Freeman has walked four times. Oddly enough, he also had a hit all three times. On July 27, 2019, he had the same line against the Phillies that he did tonight: a double, four walks and three runs scored. On June 17, 2024, he had a single and five walks, one of which was intentional, against the Rockies. Freeman is batting .265/.362/.449 in 213 plate appearances. His double tonight was the 561st of his career, moving him past Jeff Kent and Eddie Murray for sole possession of 30th place on the all-time list. Next up is Carlos Beltran at 565.

The doubles were launched 407 and 382 feet, with the former being a home run in eight ballparks. Chourio is hitting .296/.333/.436 in 16 games since coming off the injured list.

Irvin threw five no-hit innings without allowing a run, but tightness in his shoulder caused the right-hander to exit. The 29-year-old’s status for his next scheduled start and the foreseeable future will largely be determined by the results of the imaging.

Coulombe has not pitched well in 2026 with a 5.63 ERA, but he’s also been limited to just eight innings because of his late signing and also back spasms that have kept him out since the start of May. He’ll likely be a mid-to-late inning option against left-handed hitters starting Sunday.

Good news. Gurriel was placed on the IL today because a hamstring strain. Tommy Troy figures to get most of the starts in left field for now, though he didn’t start tonight because of the late decision to have him travel to join the team.

Holliday last played Wednesday. The No. 4 overall pick in the 2025 MLB draft is hitting .262/.395/.557 with nine homers in 152 plate appearances for Fresno.

Orion Kerkering, Brad Keller and Jhoan Duran finished up the three-hitter. Wheeler allowed two hits and walked one in the 99-pitch outing. Following a leadoff double in the fourth, he retired nine in a row to conclude his day. Wheeler is an incredible 4-0 with a 1.67 ERA and a 36/8 K/BB in 37 2/3 innings since returning from thoracic outlet surgery. He’s due to make his next start Friday against the Dodgers.
