Orioles recalled RHP Bryan Baker from Triple-A Norfolk.
Baker had been a key cog in the Orioles bullpen but started struggling with inherited runners and saw his ERA climb to 3.64 before being sent down to Triple-A. The 28-year-old carries a 3.51 MLB ERA in 112 2/3 innings out of the bullpen. He figures to return to his spot in the back half of the Baltimore bullpen. Nick Vespi was sent to Triple-A in a corresponding move.

Esmerlyn Valdez went 1-for-3 and blasted the first home run of his big league career on Sunday, leading the Pirates to a 4-1 victory over the Blue Jays to salvage the finale of their three-game series in Toronto.
After going down on strikes in each of his first two at-bats, the 22-year-old outfielder clobbered an 0-1 sweeper from Chase Lee for a 345-foot (94.3 mph EV) two-run shot in the sixth inning that extended the Pirates’ advantage to 4-1. He’s just 1-for-8 (.125) with five strikeouts in his first three games with the Pirates.
Fan drives negotiations to relinquish HR ball
After catching Esmerlyn Valdez's first MLB home run and hit, this lucky fan made sure to call for some advice on what memorabilia he should receive in exchange from the Pirates for the ball.
  • PIT 1st Baseman #2
Spencer Horwitz clubbed a leadoff home run on Sunday afternoon, helping to power the Pirates to victory over the Blue Jays.
Horwitz wasted no time in this one, ambushing a first-pitch changeup from Dylan Cease. He also drew a walk in the contest, finishing the afternoon 1-for-4. On the season, the 28-year-old is now hitting a respectable .274/.381/.438 with five homers and 23 RBI in 176 plate appearances.
  • PIT Starting Pitcher #23
Mitch Keller delivered another strong performance during Sunday’s victory over the Blue Jays, striking out five batters over six innings of one-run baseball.
Keller allowed just four hits on the afternoon while issuing three free passes. The lone tally against him came on an RBI single off the bat of Ernie Clement in the fourth inning. He generated 11 swings and misses on 101 pitches on the day, posting a CSW of 27 percent. Now 5-2 on the season, the 30-year-old righty will carry a 3.64 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and a 46/19 K/BB ratio (64 1/3 innings) into Friday’s showdown against the Twins.
  • PIT Relief Pitcher #31
Gregory Soto slammed the door on the Blue Jays in the ninth inning on Sunday, protecting a three-run lead to earn his fifth save of the season.
After getting Ernie Clement to start the inning, Soto plunked Andres Gimenez and walked Brandon Valenzuela to put the tying runs on base. He then battled back to get George Springer on a pop out to the shortstop and Daulton Varsho on strikes to end it. Soto now sports a 2.22 ERA and 0.80 WHIP on the season to go along with his five saves in seven opportunities.
  • TOR 2nd Baseman #22
Ernie Clement went 1-for-4 and plated the Blue Jays’ lone run during Sunday’s loss to the Pirates.
Clement got the Jays on the board in the fourth inning with a run-scoring single off of Mitch Keller that plated Vladimir Guerrero Jr. The 30-year-old has been swinging a hot bat as of late and is now slashing .295/.321/.425 with three homers and 18 RBI across 209 plate appearances on the season.
  • TOR Starting Pitcher #84
Dylan Cease was removed from Sunday’s start against the Pirates due to mild left hamstring discomfort.
That’s certainly a more encouraging diagnosis than anything arm related. It’s unclear if Cease will be able to make his next start, but it doesn’t appear as though he’s going to require any sort of extended absence. Fantasy managers should pay close attention to his status over the next couple of days.
  • TOR 1st Baseman #27
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was diagnosed with a right elbow contusion after X-rays came back clean for any fractures on Sunday.
The 27-year-old superstar was pulled from Sunday’s game after he was plunked on the elbow by Mitch Keller, but it appears he was fortunate to avoid any significant injury. He may wind up needing an extra day off to manage the soreness, but Guerrero shouldn’t require a trip to the injured list.
  • CIN Starting Pitcher #51
Sunday’s scheduled contest between the Cardinals and Reds in Cincinnati was postponed due to inclement weather.
The game will be made up as part of a split doubleheader on August 17. Expect Sunday’s scheduled starters, Brady Singer and Brycen Mautz, to be pushed back to Monday for their respective ballclubs.
  • SF Starting Pitcher #62
Giants’ manager Tony Vitello told reporters on Sunday that Logan Webb (knee) feels fine physically after Friday’s rehab start and he’s expected to rejoin the rotation this week.
Webb is expected to slot in at some point during the Diamondbacks’ series, though nothing has officially been decided yet. It’s also unclear who he’ll bump from the Giants’ rotation, though Trevor McDonald seems to be the obvious candidate — especially after getting shelled for seven runs his last time out against the White Sox.
  • TOR 1st Baseman #27
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was removed from Sunday’s series finale against the Pirates after being hit by a pitch on the inside of his right elbow.
The 27-year-old slugger was drilled by a 92 mph sinker from Mitch Keller in the bottom of the fifth inning and was immediately lifted for a pinch runner. Expect him to undergo imaging to see if there’s any structural damage. The Jays should provide an update on his status as soon as more information becomes available. All fantasy managers can do now is wait and hope for the best.
