  • LAA Starting Pitcher #48
Reid Detmers allowed seven runs over five innings on Friday for Triple-A Salt Lake.
Yikes. The positive takeaway here is that Detmers recorded eight strikeouts and didn’t hand out a free pass. The 24-year-old talented southpaw was jettisoned to the minors earlier this month to give him some space to work on things. Simply put, he remains a work in progress.
  • TB Relief Pitcher #52
Zack Littell tossed seven scoreless innings and got the win in the Rays’ 2-0 victory over the Red Sox on Thursday.
Littell gave up one hit, walked none and struck out seven. The win was his eighth of the year. He continues to punish the Red Sox every time he pitches against them for placing him on waivers in May of 2023. Tampa Bay continues to benefit as Littell has had a solid year in the rotation. He has a 3.56 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 134 strikeouts in 151 2/3 innings. The 28-year-old right-hander is set to face the Tigers on the road next week.
  • WAS Outfielder #30
Jacob Young left Thursday’s game against the Cubs in the second inning after a steal attempt.
Young was seen experiencing discomfort after he was caught stealing to end the top of the second inning. It’s unclear what the injury was exactly, but he was removed from the game. Joey Gallo came in to play right field with Dylan Crews taking Young’s spot in center.
  • NYY Left Fielder #22
Juan Soto is set for X-Rays on his knee following an incredible sliding catch in foul territory in the seventh inning of Thursday’s game against the Mariners.
Soto said he slid directly into a concrete wall. He stayed in and finished the game. When asked if he’ll be available for Friday’s game against the Athletics, Soto said it depends on how his knee feels in the morning. With the Yankees having already clinched a playoff berth, they could be cautious with their superstar slugger.
  • LAD Designated Hitter #17
Shohei Ohtani went 6-for-6 with three homers, two doubles, 10 RBI and two steals to set the Dodgers’ single-season home run record and complete the first 50 HR/50 SB season in MLB history Thursday in the Dodgers’ 20-4 drubbing of the Marlins.
If only the Marlins had gotten 21 runs today, this would have made for the ultimate Tungsten Arm O’Doyle game. Ohtani, who entered with 48 homers, passed Shawn Green at 49 for the Dodgers’ record. He probably sealed up NL MVP honors with this, particularly in light of Francisco Lindor’s absence this week. He’s the 15th player ever with five extra-base hits in a game. The only other player ever to go 6-for-6 with five extra-base hits in a game was, incredibly enough, Shawn Green, doing so in his four-homer game in 2002. The 10-RBI game is the first in Dodgers history. It’s Ohtani’s first career three-homer game. His previous high for RBI was eight in an Angels loss in 2022.
  • LAD Starting Pitcher #0
Jack Flaherty earned his 13th win Thursday after allowing three runs in six innings against the Marlins.
Flaherty gave up homers to Jake Burger and Griffin Conine, but he could afford to in what ended up being a 20-4 game. He’s 6-2 with a 3.40 ERA in nine starts since joining the Dodgers. He’s set to face the Padres in his final regular-season start next week.
  • MIA Starting Pitcher #27
Edward Cabrera gave up seven runs and walked five in 2 2/3 innings Thursday in a loss to the Dodgers.
Cabrera went without allowing an earned run over 13 innings in his previous two starts, but there’s just never any telling how he might look on any given day. Only 37 of his 73 pitches were strikes today, and he dropped to 4-8 with a 5.12 ERA on the season. He’ll finish up next week against the Twins.
  • LAD Center Fielder #44
Andy Pages went 2-for-5 with a double, three RBI and a walk Thursday against the Marlins.
After being held out of the lineup six games in a row, Pages got a start last night after Miguel Rojas was scratched and went 1-for-3. Back in there today, he matched his season high with three RBI. He’s hit .286 with two homers in 28 plate appearances since being recalled Sept. 1. If he finishes hot, he might find himself in position to get some starts in center during the postseason.
  • SEA Starting Pitcher #36
Logan Gilbert allowed two runs over 5 1/3 innings and struck out nine in the Mariners’ 3-2 victory over the Yankees on Thursday.
Gilbert got the win, his first Aug. 10. It’s just the third time this season that he’s allowed at least one run and won, as he moved to 8-11 with a 3.24 ERA. Gilbert will make his next start Tuesday against the Astros. It’ll probably be his last of the year, but he’ll be available in the season finale if needed.
  • SEA Relief Pitcher #75
Andrés Muñoz struck out the side in the ninth for a save Thursday against the Yankees.
Muñoz fanned Austin Wells, Oswaldo Cabrera and Gleyber Torres to protect a one-run lead. It’s his fifth straight scoreless appearance. Since he also threw 24 pitches on Wednesday, he’ll almost certainly get Friday off now, potentially resulting in a save chance for Collin Snider or Trent Thornton.
  • NYY Starting Pitcher #36
Clarke Schmidt lost his outing against the Marlins after allowing three runs — one earned — in five innings Thursday.
Jasson Domínguez dropped a routine fly with the bases loaded in the first, leading to the two unearned runs. Schmidt went on to match his season high with seven strikeouts, and he has a 1.76 ERA in three starts since coming off the injured list. He’s due to make his final regular-season start next Wednesday against the Orioles.
