  • CWS Starting Pitcher #51
Jared Shuster will start for the White Sox in Thursday’s series finale against the Guardians.
Shuster has pitched exclusively out of the White Sox’ bullpen this season, posting a 3.15 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and a 21/16 K/BB ratio over 34 1/3 innings in 17 appearances. The 25-year-old hurler threw 64 pitches a couple of weeks ago against the Tigers, but otherwise hasn’t been stretched out, so he shouldn’t be expected to work more than a couple of innings on Thursday.
  • LAD Designated Hitter #17
Shohei Ohtani went 6-for-6 with three homers, two doubles, 10 RBI and two steals to set the Dodgers’ single-season home run record and complete the first 50 HR/50 SB season in MLB history Thursday in the Dodgers’ 20-4 drubbing of the Marlins.
If only the Marlins had gotten 21 runs today, this would have made for the ultimate Tungsten Arm O’Doyle game. Ohtani, who entered with 48 homers, passed Shawn Green at 49 for the Dodgers’ record. He probably sealed up NL MVP honors with this, particularly in light of Francisco Lindor’s absence this week. He’s the 15th player ever with five extra-base hits in a game. The only other player ever to go 6-for-6 with five extra-base hits in a game was, incredibly enough, Shawn Green, doing so in his four-homer game in 2002. The 10-RBI game is the first in Dodgers history. It’s Ohtani’s first career three-homer game. His previous high for RBI was eight in an Angels loss in 2022.
  • LAD Starting Pitcher #0
Jack Flaherty cruised to a win over the Marlins after allowing three runs in six innings on Thursday.
  • MIA Starting Pitcher #27
Edward Cabrera gave up seven runs and walked five in 2 2/3 innings Thursday in a loss to the Dodgers.
  • LAD Center Fielder #44
Andy Pages went 2-for-5 with a double, three RBI and a walk Thursday against the Marlins.
  • SEA Starting Pitcher #36
Logan Gilbert allowed two runs over 5 1/3 innings and struck out nine in the Mariners’ 3-2 victory over the Yankees on Thursday.
Gilbert got the win, his first Aug. 10. It’s just the third time this season that he’s allowed at least one run and won, as he moved to 8-11 with a 3.24 ERA. Gilbert will make his next start Tuesday against the Astros. It’ll probably be his last of the year, but he’ll be available in the season finale if needed.
  • SEA Relief Pitcher #75
Andrés Muñoz struck out the side in the ninth for a save Thursday against the Yankees.
Muñoz fanned Austin Wells, Oswaldo Cabrera and Gleyber Torres to protect a one-run lead. It’s his fifth straight scoreless appearance. Since he also threw 24 pitches on Wednesday, he’ll almost certainly get Friday off now, potentially resulting in a save chance for Collin Snider or Trent Thornton.
  • NYY Starting Pitcher #36
Clarke Schmidt lost his outing against the Marlins after allowing three runs — one earned — in five innings Thursday.
Jasson Domínguez dropped a routine fly with the bases loaded in the first, leading to the two unearned runs. Schmidt went on to match his season high with seven strikeouts, and he has a 1.76 ERA in three starts since coming off the injured list. He’s due to make his final regular-season start next Wednesday against the Orioles.
  • SEA Shortstop #25
Dylan Moore singled, walked twice and swiped his 30th base of the season Thursday against the Yankees.
Moore wasn’t supposed to play against a righty today, but he was the choice to join the lineup when Victor Robles was scratched. His 30th steal added to his career high in that category. He’s never been good enough against righties to serve as a quality regular, but he’s held his own against them season. Overall, he’s hitting .206/.319/.378 in a career-high 415 plate appearances.
  • NYY Left Fielder #22
Juan Soto was able to finish Thursday’s game after hurting his left knee in a collision with the wall in right.
Soto was in a lot of pain initially after a sliding catch resulted in his left knee hitting the unpadded bottom of the wall down the right field line, but he shook it off. We assume he’ll be OK for Friday, but if he does get a rare night off, assume the knee is the reason.
  • NYY Relief Pitcher #61
Jake Cousins left Thursday’s game against the Mariners with right pec tightness.
Cousins followed Clarke Schmidt, but his velocity was down upon entering the game. The Yankees decided to remove him after only two batters. New York is hoping for the best with one of its most trusted relievers this season. Cousins had a 2.37 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 53 strikeouts in 38 innings this year.
