  • FA Catcher #15
White Sox released C Martín Maldonado.
Maldonado was designated for assignment and went unclaimed, and he won’t report to Triple-A Charlotte. The 37-year-old could be of interest to those teams in contention looking for a backup backstop, but it obviously won’t increase his fantasy value.
  • LAD Starting Pitcher #31
Tyler Glasnow had a setback with his elbow while warming up prior to a simulated game Friday and is meeting with trainers.
Even if it’s a minor setback, this is going to make it very difficult for Glasnow to return during the regular season. He last pitched on Aug. 11 before going on the IL with elbow tendinitis. The Dodgers declared that there was no structural damage at the time.
  • KC Relief Pitcher #56
Hunter Harvey has resumed throwing after missing the last month with a sore back.
Harvey initially began throwing just a week after going on the injured list, but he experienced a setback then. At best, he might return to make two or three appearances before the end of the regular season.
  • ATL Second Baseman #1
Ozzie Albies said Friday that he wants to try to return from his fractured left hand in the near future while hitting right-handed exclusively.
Albies, normally a switch-hitter, said he’ll be able to play within the next week, if the Braves let him. He thinks he’ll need just one rehab game. Apparently, he didn’t at all like Brian Snitker saying Friday that he was iffy for the rest of the season.
  • CLE Center Fielder #38
Steven Kwan was scratched from Friday’s lineup for an undisclosed reason.
Daniel Schneemann is playing left field in his place. Kwan had been showing signs of pulling out of his slump in recent down, going 5-for-13 with six walks in his previous four games. Of course, three of those games were against the White Sox.
  • NYM Relief Pitcher #72
Dedniel Núñez is not expected back this season after receiving a PRP injection for his flexor tendon soreness.
Núñez looked great for the Mets in the first half of the year, but he got hurt in late July, returned to make one appearance a month later and was forced back to the IL with the same problem. He ends the year with a 2.31 ERA and a 48/8 K/BB in 35 innings out of the pen.
  • NYY Center Fielder #89
Jasson Domínguez is sitting in favor of Alex Verdugo for the second time in three days Friday.
The Yankees are probably hoping for a little Verdugo magic against his former team; he has gone 13-for-42 with two homers and four doubles in nine games against the Red Sox this season. Still, this usage just makes all of the Domínguez-everyday player talk out to be a lie.
  • WAS Shortstop #5
CJ Abrams was scratched from Friday’s lineup due to a shoulder injury suffered in the ninth inning Thursday.
Nasim Nuñez has replaced him at shortstop against the Marlins, but he’s batting ninth. Abrams had been set to lead off, so now everyone has moved up one spot in his absence.
  • MIA Shortstop #63
Xavier Edwards is back in the Marlins lineup Friday after being absent the last three games.
Edwards came off the bench the last two games, going 2-for-2 with a double and a steal last night. We’re not sure what the Marlins are trying to do here with one of their key players, but we’re guessing Edwards isn’t quite 100 percent after returning from back soreness last week. Because if he is 100 percent and they just didn’t start him three games in a row anyway, that would be criminal.
  • COL Starting Pitcher #26
Rockies activated LHP Austin Gomber from the paternity list.
Gomber will face the Cubs tonight in his first start in eight days.
  • COL Starting Pitcher #29
Rockies optioned RHP Tanner Gordon to Triple-A Albuquerque.
Gordon was lit up for seven runs in 3 1/3 innings by the Tigers in a start Wednesday. He’s 0-6 with an 8.65 ERA in eight starts for the Rockies this season.
